Downtown

This morning Morry let me sleep since I wasn’t feeling well. I think the boys got up around 8:00. By 11:00 Noah was tired again so we put him down for a short nap. When Noah woke up we drove downtown.

We drove around the 2nd Street district and then ate lunch on South Congress at Home Slice Pizza. Usually you have to wait awhile, but we were able to get seated right away. It was crowded in there, but I guess it just happened that a booth opened up when we got there.

After pizza we went home since Evan and Noah needed naps.

After naps we took Evan out front for just a little bit. He said he wanted to ride his bike, but when we first got outside he wanted to play with the chalk. Yesterday I drew a train track for him on the driveway and wanted to play with the train track again. I added more to the track and then he asked Morry to add “ding dong things.” We realized he meant the railroad crossing arms. Evan pushed his trains along the track some and then he rode his bike to end of the cul-de-sac and back.

For dinner, we went to Suzy’s. Evan had some edamame and then wanted us to teach him how to use chopsticks. I would show him how and pick up some rice. He wanted me to then put the rice in his mouth from the chopstick. He was able to pick up a few pieces of rice on his own, but then he just wanted to play with the chopsticks.

We just gave Evan and Noah baths and now they are in bed.

Everybody's Sick...Again

Hello everyone, this is Morry. Rachel is not feeling well and has gone to bed, along with the boys. The boys, too, are sick. Both have runny noses.

The morning began, for everyone but me (I left earlier to go to work), with the boys getting up around 8am. Both boys had pretty bad runny noses and Rachel hadn't slept well because she didn't feel well. Rachel decided they were too sick to go to the playgroup.

Zayde/Jack fed Noah and then played catch with a football with Evan. Evan scored many touchdowns.

At 11:30, everyone came and met me for lunch. We went over to Hyde Park Bar & Grill. Both boys were well behaved. Evan ate OK. He had some macaroni, crackers, cheese, dried fruit among other stuff. Noah also ate well, as usual. They didn't have a soup and half-sandwich so Rachel only got soup.

After the boys took naps, Zayde and Rachel took them outside in the front. Evan rode his bike some and then insisted that he and Noah go in the bike trailer while Rachel rode the bike. Zayde took some pictures below. When I got home they were still outside. Evan wanted to "play football" with me which consisted of running back and forth across the front yard and then falling on the ground. I have to say, though, that falling-on-the-ground thing is exactly what I used to do. My mom will say that I was always on the ground while playing sports. Then Noah walked in his walker while Evan drew on the driveway with chalk.

For dinner we went to Red Brick Pizza. Evan had a piece and a half of black olive pizza. Noah didn't eat much and was a bit cranky, so Zayde held him the whole time.

Both boys are now in bed and quiet.

Until next time...

Another Cold

Well, Evan and Noah have had runny noses, but this time I got it worse. Last night I was up a lot and today my throat is hurting. I was supposed to go out with Yenis tonight, but I’m not feeling up to it.

Evan went to school today. When I picked him up his teachers told me they read Green Eggs and Ham and made green eggs. Evan told me that he helped mix them up and watched them turn green.

I didn’t do much today. I just cleaned up the house while Evan was at school and then more when I put Evan and Noah down for naps. Evan maybe napped for 30 minutes and Noah didn’t nap at all. Morry came home early and we went to pick Jack/Zayde up at the airport. He got in a little after 5:00.

We all went into the airport to pick up Jack/Zayde. Evan loves going to the airport. He was very excited.

After the airport we went to Logans for dinner. Evan ate lots of bread and a ton of peanuts.

Lots of tutoring

Luckily, we didn’t get any ice last night. Morry was able to drive to work this morning without any problems. It was really cold outside though.

I took Noah and Evan to the library this morning. They have a storytime there on Wednesdays at 10:15. I thought we would try it out. Neither of the boys seemed very interested in the librarian. They were more interested in the other kids and books. Noah kept trying to crawl over to someone else’s stroller that was next to us. He just wanted to play with the wheels. After the storytime we picked out a few books and a kid’s airplane movie to bring home.

For lunch I made quesadillas for Evan and cut gingerbread man shapes out of them hoping Evan would eat them. No such luck. Noah ate a lot of little pieces of quesadilla for both lunch and dinner. At least the quesadillas went in someone’s belly.

At 1:30 Blanca arrived and the homeschool Algebra II student came over and stayed until 4:00. Well, he actually stayed a little past 4:00. I told his mom I had to leave the house by 4:00 to meet another student, but for some reason she couldn’t get there in time. At least Blanca was in the house to wait with him until his mom came. At 4:30, I tutored another student for an hour.

I got home around 6:00. We ate chicken and rice soup I made earlier in the day and some leftovers from the other nights. Evan didn’t eat much, but Noah ate a lot ( like always). Noah had his cereal mix, baby food jar, quesadillas, tomatoes, a few pieces of ham, banana, and dried fruit.

After dinner I made cranberry apple crisp. I was in the mood for it. We’ll eat some in a few minutes when I get off the computer.

Evan and Noah are in bed, but it still sounds like they are still awake. Both have runny noses now… it looks like another cold is coming. ugh

Freezing

So, this morning it was in the 60s when I dropped of Evan, and when I went to pick him up from school a few hours later it was already in the 40s. Now, at almost 9pm it’s 32 degrees outside.

Yenis told me when she brought Kevin in the classroom this morning Evan ran up to them and said he was a firefighter. He had a hat on and was pretending to be a firefighter. When I picked Evan up he was a doctor. He came up to me with a thermometer and wanted to check my ear.

While Evan was at school Noah took a short morning nap and cleaned upstairs. We ate lunch and that was pretty much the end of the morning. Then, it was time to pick up Evan.

Blanca came at 3:00. I was supposed to tutor until 7:30 tonight, but ended up just going until 6:30. One of my students didn’t have homework and therefore, didn’t need my help. That was good since I was worried about driving home in bad weather. I wanted to get home before it got below freezing.

For dinner we had pasta and green beans. Evan didn’t eat much for dinner. All he ate was 2 cups of applesauce. Noah ate well though. He had cereal mixed with applesauce, baby food veggies, regular veggies, hot dog, a little bit of pasta, and cheese.

They are saying we may get some sleet and ice tonight. We’ll see what happens.

Foggy Day

I was planning on taking the boys to the lake today, but it was foggy and drizzly this morning. We went over to Lamb’s to get my windshield wipers fixed. The other day one of the wiper blades just fell off. Since it was rainy today I had to go over there and get it fixed. After Lamb’s we went to the bank. As soon as we walked in Evan started asking for a lollipop. The teller asked him what color he wanted and he said red. By the time I finished depositing my checks and cash Evan had finished his lollipop.

When we got home Noah was really tired so I put him down for a nap. He slept for about an hour while Evan watched Toy Story. For lunch I made Evan sports mac and cheese. While I was getting it ready he ate a ton of pistachio nuts. He kept asking for more. Noah ate well at lunch, but just ate some mac and cheese. That was about it.

I put them down for naps, but didn’t get to take a nap myself since it seemed like one of them was always up. Once Evan fell asleep Noah started making noise. I had to go in his room, change him, and feed him to get Noah back to sleep.

Pretty soon after Morry got home the boys woke up from the naps. We took them outside and I gave them haircuts.

Then, we had dinner. I made crock pot Coke Ham. It was pretty good. We had some dinner rolls with it. Usually Evan eats ham, but for some reason he wouldn’t eat it tonight. He ended up just eating some Lunchables.

Noah went from a crawling position to sitting today all on his own. When I got him from his nap I watched him sit all by himself.

Evan and Noah are in bed now. It seems quiet.

Cold Sunday

We planned on going bike riding this morning, but it was in the 40s. Instead we walked around the trail at the Costco shopping center. It was a little cold walking, but it would have been much colder riding a bike. We walked around the trail with Evan, Noah, and Lizzy and then stopped for smoothies and Smoothie King on the way home. It’s in the same shopping center.

We ate lunch and but the boys down for naps around 1:30. Both were acting tired.

After naps I took Evan and Noah in the backyard to play while Morry made dinner. Morry made a chicken stir fry with rice. It was very good.

At 7:00 the homeschool student came over. I tutored him from 7:00-10:00. Morry took Evan and Noah upstairs while I was tutoring and put them to bed.

It’s late.. I just wanted to update the blog and quickly let you all know what we did today.

Goin' Bananas

Hello everyone, this is Morry. Rachel asked me to write the blog tonight.

Last night, at about 4:45 in the morning, Lizzy woke us up. She seemed really, really agitated and scared. Normally when she does this, it's either during fireworks or there is some electronic beeping - like the beep from the smoke detectors that tell you that you need to replace the batteries in it. So I walked around the house and listened and I didn't hear anything unusual - nothing electronic that would have scared Lizzy. When I went upstairs into our room, she was still going nuts. The wind was blowing very hard, that's the only thing unusual that we noticed. It took Lizzy another 45 minutes to calm down. But it took me longer to fall asleep. The whole time Lizzy was agitated she wanted to be as close to me as possible and wanted me to pet her. The only thing that Rachel and I figured was there was some sound that neither of us could hear, perhaps from the wind coming in through a door or window.

When we actually got up for real, it was closer to 9am. We had a party to go to this morning at Goin' Bananas. This place has all this blow-up stuff, like the moon bounce, but lots of things like that. When Rachel has taken the boys there previously, Evan doesn't want to go on anything. This time, he did get on a few things. Then we saw one of the bouncy things for kids ages 3 and under. There were blow up emergency vehicles on it. Evan really enjoyed playing on that. We also put Noah down on that and he played with it as well.

When they were serving pizza for lunch, Evan wanted to go play this football game arcade game. We didn't actually put any money in it, but he kept hitting the football and saying to me that he scored a touchdown. Then we'd high five. Then we went over to skee ball. I put some quarters in and we played skee ball. Evan did enjoy that. He was able to do it pretty much.

After Goin' Bananas, we went home and put the boys down for a nap. Rachel also napped. I watched a movie called Shooter with Mark Wahlberg.

After naps, we played in the game room some, and then I set up the bike trailer so it was hooked to one of our bikes. I rode around the block with Evan in it once and Rachel did too. It was TOUGH. I don't know how far we'll be able to go once we add nearly 25 pounds more in Noah.

Speaking of Noah, we put him in the walker outside. He actually walked! It was so cute. He really got it and was walking all over the driveway. It's amazing because he just started pulling up this week and he still doesn't crawl on his knees. Is he going to just go right to walking? We'll see. He still may be slow in walking.

For dinner we went to a restaurant called the Cypress Grill. We had a coupon. It was pretty good. It's a cajun restaurant. Noah ate the entire time. Of course he made a mess under his high chair. At one point the waiter came over to our table and he said, "How are thi...Oh dear Lord!" when he saw the mess under Noah's chair. It was pretty funny.

The boys are in bed now. It seems quiet upstairs. Let's hope it stays that way.

Until next time...

Playgroup at the Park

This morning we met the playgroup at the “old school” park. We got there at 10:30am and we were the first of the group to get there. Evan went right to the see-saws and wanted me to see-saw with him. I had Noah in the backpack when we first got there. After a little while I took Noah out of the backpack and let him crawl around, but he kept putting rocks in his mouth. It was too hard for me to watch what Noah was putting in his mouth and keep an eye on Evan, so I put Noah back in the backpack. One of the kids from Evan’s class came. He has an older 5 year-old brother and Evan wanted to play with the brother a lot. Evan loves playing with big kids. He followed the brother around and asked him to see-saw. We left the park around 12. I needed to get home since I was tutoring later.

At home I made lunch for the boys and quickly ate a sandwich. Blanca came over at 12:45. I tutored a home school student this afternoon. He’s taking an online Algebra II class and needed some help. I’ll be helping him a few more days to help him finish his course.

For dinner we went to BJs. We picked it thinking it would be fast and easy to find food for Evan to eat. We called ahead, but still had to wait awhile. I’m not sure how much the call-ahead really helps. Evan was in a really cranky mood at first. He wouldn’t eat anything. Also, right after the waiter brought our drinks over somehow Noah grabbed Morry’s drink and knocked the whole thing over. It was a mess. It got all over Noah’s pants, the highchair, and floor. I quickly pulled Noah’s pants off and he spent the rest of dinner with his pants off. Toward the end of dinner Evan finally decided to start eating. He had pizza and apples.

After dinner we went to HEB. It had been a while since we had gone grocery shopping and really needed food for the house. Evan and Noah were very good. We were there a while. Evan ate an apple and a few slices of a loaf of bread we were buying.

We got home late and the boys didn’t go to bed until about 10:00. It seems quiet now. I hope they sleep well. We have a birthday party to go to in the morning.

School and cleaning

Evan went to school today. He went without a fight. Let’s hope that continues.

While Evan was at school Noah and I just hung out at home. I did laundry, cleaned up the house, and marinated the chicken for dinner tonight.

I decided to walk to pick Evan up from school. The weather was very nice today. I think it was in the high 70s.

When I got into Evan’s classroom I put Noah down on the floor so I could sign out Evan. Evan liked having Noah on the floor and wanted to show him different toys that they had in the classroom. We had a nice walk home. Both boys were good.

When we got home I did a little more cleaning and then put Evan and Noah down for a nap. Noah went to sleep right away, but Evan was up for a while.

Blanca came over at 4:00 and I tutored from 4:30-5:30.

When I came home we made chicken and pasta for dinner.

I forgot to mention what happened the other day on the way to the park. I recently started giving Noah some cereal in a snack trap (a bowl with a lid that he can reach into and get the food). We were pulling out of the driveway and I hear Evan say, “Oh gosh, Noah!”. I asked Evan what happened and he told me Noah spilled his cereal. I pulled the car over in front of our house and had to go over to Noah’s seat and clean up his cereal. It was all over his lap and he was just eating the cereal right off his lap.

The Park

Today we went to the park and met Yenis and Kevin there. We went to the park that has the old school type equipment. There is a merry-go-round and see-saws. I put Noah in the backpack and followed Evan around the small park. Evan loved the merry-go-round and see-saw. There was also a spring rocking horse that he spent a lot of time playing. I called him a cowboy and Woody (from Toy Story). He loved that. Evan wanted me to keep saying, “Hi Cowboy” or “Hi Woody.”

After the park Yenis and Kevin came to our house for lunch. Yenis and I had sandwiches and the boys had pizza.

Noah took a good nap, but Evan didn’t sleep that long.

Jeremy, Morry's friend from work, is in town this week. We invited him over for dinner. We had corned beef, veggies, and corn bread for dinner.

After we put the boys to bed I’m going out with Alissa. Morry and Jeremy are going to watch a movie at home.

Inauguration Day

Hello everyone, this is Morry. Rachel is eating her dinner since she got home from tutoring late.

I'd be remiss if I didn't mention what an historic day it is today. At 12:00 PM Eastern time, the United States of America inaugurated its first black president. It is just extraordinary. I tried to watch the ceremony online but had a hard time given the network congestion. I tried cnn.com, msnbc.com, abc.com, yahoo.com, bbc.com (they only let people in England watch), npr.com and cbs.com. It was basically impossible to watch on any of those. Then it occured to me that foxnews.com probably wouldn't have as many people watching. I was right. The video was a bit choppy but the audio was great. President Obama's speech was great - very inspiring. Even that wacko he had give the speech before him wasn't too bad. But that speech was one of the moments we can always say you remember where you were when it happened. I hope that we can all be proud of the country today, for the signficance of having an Afican-American president, regardless of your party affiliation.

Ok, so back to the Belkin happenings. Rachel said that Evan was well behaved this morning before school. He didn't give her a hard time getting to school or walking into the building. That's a huge step. The thing is that he really enjoys school. He's just in this phase that he fights us on everything.

Rachel didn't do much while Evan was at school. Noah took a long nap.

When Rachel picked up Evan from school, she said that he gave her a hard time. She gave him a time out and then put him down for a nap.

Rachel left to go tutor at 3pm and I came home around 5:30. When I got home, the boys were out back with Blanca. They came in and Evan immediately asked to go back outside. We said goodbye to Blanca and when outside. Evan was playing miniature golf on this little course he has. A couple times the ball left the course and Evan would say "Oh darn it!" Then both boys went on the swing. When it got dark, we went in.

I had Evan help me make a pizza for him. I put sauce on the top and bottom half of a hamburger bun. Then Evan put mozzarella cheese on. We baked the pizza and he ate both halfs. He asked for another pizza. He ate both halfs of that pizza as well.

Noah meanwhile was just chowing down on all the finger food I gave to him.

After dinner, Noah pulled up completely for the first time. He crawled over to the ottoman and pulled up. I knew he's been able to do it for awhile, it just hasn't occurred to him that he could do it. Today, Noah is 10 months old. Unbelievable.

Now Rachel is home and both boys are in bed. It seems to be quiet up there. Hopefully it stays that way.

Until next time...

Town Lake

This morning Evan was giving me a hard time again. I was planning on going for a run, but he was complaining he didn’t want to go in the stroller. I talked to Yenis and she said they were planning on walking at Town Lake and invited us to join them. I thought would be better than running around the neighborhood. Evan and Noah like going to the lake. There ‘s lots to look at and Evan gets to run around some.

We met Kevin and Yenis at 11:15. Yenis and I ran to where the ducks are and we stopped to feed them bread. Evan enjoyed throwing large chunks of bread in the water.

After that we let Evan and Kevin walk on the trail. They did pretty well and mostly listened to us. It was pretty crowded today and there were lots of people walking and biking. We had to really watch out for the bikes. After a while we put Evan and Kevin back in the strollers. Evan fought it some, but after a little while he was ok.

When we were getting in the car Evan said he wanted a smoothie from Jamba Juice. I told him we weren’t going to go there, but I’d make him a smoothie at home. He seemed ok with that.

At home, I made a smoothie and fed Noah. Evan didn’t want to eat anything else for lunch.

The boys went down for naps around 2:30. They both took good naps. They needed them. Noah woke up in the middle of the night last night and was up for a while.

For dinner, Morry and I didn’t feel like making anything so we orde

red Chinese food. It took over an hour to get here. The food was ok, but we ended up eating late.

We just gave Evan and Noah baths and put them to bed.

Bike Trailer

Morry had to go into the office this morning from 9-1. Evan and Noah woke up early this morning for some reason.

Since Noah wouldn’t let us go to the gym I thought I’d buy one of those trailers that goes on the back of your bike for the kids to ride in. I found one on Craigslist and picked it up today. I took Evan and Noah with me to meet the people at a shopping center parking lot. It looks like a good trailer. I hope the boys will like riding in it.

Evan said he was hungry but he didn’t want to eat any of the food I brought for him. He saw Wendys and said he wanted to eat there. I asked him if he would really eat nuggets if I bought them and he said yes. So, I went through the drive-through and as I was paying Evan said he didn’t want nuggets. He wanted ice cream. He threw a big fit. Then, I handed him the nuggets and he threw another fit because I didn’t get him a kids meal and there was no toy in the bag.

We drove over to Academy so I could get Evan and Noah bike helmets. As we were walking in the store Morry called and said he was done working. I told Morry where we were and he came and met us. We picked out helmets while Evan played with the bikes. When it was time to leave Evan threw another fit. He didn’t want to leave and he wanted a bike.

When we got home Evan wanted to ride his bike and wear his new helmet. So, we walked and Evan rode his bike around the block.

Tonight, Morry was watching the Steelers game. It just finished. Morry’s very excited about the Steelers going to the Super Bowl.

Here are some pictures from last night and today:

Guitar Hero

Hello everyone, this is Morry. Rachel asked me to write the blog today.

This morning, Evan got up around 8:15am. A short while later, Noah got up. Rachel got up with the boys and let me sleep a bit more. I didn't sleep too much, but just laying in bed was nice. I heard Rachel having a battle with Evan. Apparently, he didn't want to get dressed, so Rachel just left him in the room.

When I got downstairs, we talked about going to the Wildflower Center. However, Noah was starting to be cranky, so we put him down for a morning nap. He went to sleep right away.

We let Noah sleep for an hour and then we got him up for lunch. During lunch Rachel told me that she was going to make chocolate chip cookies after lunch. She spelled out the word cookies so that Evan didn't know what was going on. I needed to run to HEB to pick up soda. Rachel's friends Melissa and Robbie and their husbands were coming over to dinner, so that's the reason for needing the soda and the cookies.

Evan wanted to come with me to HEB so we left the house in my car. Whenever he comes in my car, he wants to call someone since we can call over the speakers and he can hear everything. The phone connects via bluetooth. He said he wanted to call Mommy. So we called her and at the end of the call, she said "I need to go make the cookies." I hung up and then Evan said "What did Mommy say? Did she say cookies? I want a cookie." He picks up on the slightest thing. It made me laugh.

At HEB, Evan insisted on not getting in the cart. At the end of the trip, he told me he wanted to run along side me. I told him that was ok.

When we walked in the door, the first thing Evan said was that he wanted a cookie.

We put the boys down for naps and Rachel napped too. I folded the clothes and tried to clean up a bit.

At 5pm, Melissa called and said they were coming down. We ordered food from the Salt Lick. When they got here, Lee, Mike and I drove down to pick the food up.

The food was very good. Noah had a ton of bread. All Evan had was bread.

After dessert, we put the boys down for bed. Mike brought Guitar Hero over for the Wii. It was a great idea. Rachel and I had never played it, but it was a lot of fun. Everyone took turns either singing or playing the "guitar". It's tough.

When everyone left, Evan was still up. He had started crying for me. I got up there and he was coming up with all kinds of stall tactics. He needed his diaper changed. He wanted to look for other pacifiers. He needed his nose sucked. He didn't like the music in the CD player. He wanted a specific song to be played. He needed me to lay down with him. I have to hand it to him, he seemed to have an endless supply of needs.

He seems to be quiet now, as does Noah. Let's hope it stays that way.

Until next time...

Bookstore and Bike

Morry worked from home today.

Morry went in Evan’s room when he woke up for the morning and Evan told him he had pee pee in his bed. His diaper had leaked so Morry took the sheets off the bed.

I thought maybe I would take Evan and Noah to the park today, but it was pretty cold today. It was in the 40s so I took them to Barnes and Noble. I asked Evan where he wanted to go today and he said he wanted to go to the bookstore. That was fine with me. Evan and Noah play with the trains while I can sit down and have some coffee. Evan and Noah had a good time. Noah stood for a long time at the train table. A few other kids came over and played. Evan did well sharing the trains. When it was time to go Evan didn’t want to leave. We were looking at some Cars books and he wanted to keep reading them. I couldn’t pick him up since I had Noah in one arm and a gift I was buying for a birthday party in another. Somehow I eventually got Evan to follow me to the checkout counter. Evan wanted to hold the keys to the car, so I let him hold them and press the button to unlock the car. When it was time to get in the car I needed the keys back and Evan threw a fit. He would not get up from the sidewalk. Normally I would just pick him up, but my arms were full. I had to quickly get Noah in the car and then grab Evan. I told him I would take his Geo Trax away when we got home, but he didn’t seem to care. As soon as we got home I packed up all his GeoTrax and put them away for a while. He made me so mad. I told Evan we can’t go out to fun places if he acts like that.

At home I got lunch ready, but Evan didn’t want to sit down. I managed to pick him up and strap him into his seat while he was throwing another fit. His screaming just kept getting louder and louder. I was feeding Noah and all the sudden Evan pulled off his shoe and threw it. He threw it right at Noah’s full cereal bowl and the wet cereal went everywhere. It was all over my clothes, on the floor, on the blinds behind me. It was a mess. Morry came out of the room where he was working to see what was going on. He took Evan up to his room. Evan told Morry he wanted to nap so Morry put clean sheets on the bed and Evan ended up napping.

I had a check up with the Ear Nose and Throat doctor at 2:15pm. That’s why Morry worked from home today. The boys napped pretty much the whole time I was gone.

After naps we went outside so Evan could ride his bike. Morry had Noah in the backpack and we walked around the block. Evan did very well on his bike. He rode the whole way. He’s getting better at pedaling and steering.

Tonight for dinner we went to Abuelo's and then went to the mall afterward. I needed to get the clasp for my watch fixed. When we walked into the mall Evan said he wanted Chick-Fil-A even though we had just eaten dinner. We asked him if he was really going to eat the chicken and he said yes. So, we bought 4 nuggets on the way back to the car. Once we were in the car we gave him the box of nuggets and he ate them all very quickly.

Evan and Noah are in bed now. It seems quiet up there.

Relaxing Thursday

This morning Evan didn’t give me any problems going to school. He was very good. He insisted on wearing his Steelers Jersey today, so I let him put it on over his long sleeved shirt. When he walked into school Ms. Natasha was very excited. She is also a Steelers fan and asked Evan for a high-five.

At 11:00, Alissa, Noah and I went over to Yenis’ house. She invited us over to hangout and have lunch. We had a nice relaxing time. We stayed there until it was time to pick up the boys at school.

When we got home Evan and Noah played while I vacuumed and mopped downstairs.

Evan and Noah went down for naps around 2:30. Blanca came 4:00 so I could tutor. I came home at 6:00 and we had a crock pot dinner. I made Drunken Garlic Crock Pot Roast and we had bread and roasted garlic with it. For Evan, we made dinosaur chicken fingers. When we put them down on his plate he threw a fit and said he didn’t want them, but by a few minutes later he had eaten them all. He also had some bread. I cut up fruit and both Evan and Noah and they ate a ton. It seems like Noah is like Evan and really likes fruit.

We gave them baths and put them to bed a little early tonight. Both Evan and Noah seemed tired, though they are still making noises in their rooms.

Cancelled appointments

I was supposed to tutor a student from 12-1 at his school. I got to the school, paid the meter, and went inside. Inside, I was getting my cell phone to call the student and tell him I was there when I saw I had a voicemail. His mom left a message canceling earlier this morning. Apparently she had tried emailing me, but emailed the wrong person or something. So, I turned around and went home. Blanca was babysitting and I was gone about an hour for nothing.

Also, I thought I had an appointment for a check up with the ENT doctor today. On the card that they gave me they wrote down the appointment as Jan. 14. I thought it was weird that I didn’t get a confirmation call, so I called this morning just to confirm. They said they had me down for Jan. 16 and they apologized for the mistake. So, now I have to go on Friday instead. At least I called first.

After eating lunch I took Evan and Noah outside so that Evan could ride his bike. He did really well. He rode his bike the whole way around the block. I thought we’d just go down the street so I was holding Noah in my arms and didn’t have stroller. My arms were really tired by the end of the walk.

Tonight I’m going out with Alissa and Yenis to Ruta Maya. That’s the coffee shop that Alissa and I went to last week.

Noah hates the gym

Evan and Noah woke up at 8:00am. I got them dressed and fed and we left for school.

As we were parking Evan told me he didn’t want to go to school. Now, that we don’t have the infant car seat it makes it harder to get both boys out of the car. I had already gotten Noah out and was holding him. Evan did not want to climb out of his car seat and the car. I had to put Noah down on the seat of the car and pull Evan out of the car. I was already holding Evan’s lunch, jacket, and water bottle. Evan wanted to me carry him too. Some how I managed to carry all that stuff and both boys to the outside door, but I had to put Evan down to enter to code to the door. Evan was still crying when we entered the classroom. Once we got all the way in the classroom he seemed fine and started playing.

After dropping Evan off at school I took Noah to the gym with me. I wanted to try another class. I was able to do 15 minutes of an ab class and 1 minute on the treadmill before the child care woman came and got me. Again, they couldn’t get Noah to stop crying. I guess we won’t be able to join they gym now. It’s not worth it to go for maybe a 15 minute workout.

Noah took a good nap when we came home. I was able to relax some.

After lunch, I put Noah in the stroller and I ran/walked to pick Evan up. Since I didn’t really get to exercise this morning I figured I’d at least run/walk to get Evan.

Blanca came at 3:00 so I could tutor. I came home at 8:00. When I got home Evan was still eating dinner. He eats very slowly.

Evan and Noah are in their rooms, but not asleep yet. I hear Evan, though the monitor saying, “I want Daddy. I want Mommy.”

HEB and the gym

Evan and Noah have runny noses and coughs again. I don’t know if it’s allergies or colds, but whatever it is, it’s not fun. I think we maybe had a week off from the sicknesses. Both boys were kind of fussy today.

I needed to go to HEB. It was about 12 noon before I could get everyone out of the house. Evan and Noah were pretty good at HEB until the end of the shopping trip. I was getting some frozen fruit to make smoothies. Evan said he wanted to get the frozen cranberries, but I told him we already had a lot at home. He threw a fit. He wanted to get the cranberries. Then, Noah got upset for some reason. So, I had both boys crying in the shopping cart as I was trying to go as quickly as I could to finish up the shopping.

We had a late lunch. By the time we got home, unloaded the groceries, and made lunch it was about 2:00. I made the Sponge Bob Mac and Cheese that Evan picked out at HEB. He ate a lot of it. Noah had some too.

I put them down for naps after lunch, but Evan didn’t fall asleep until about 3:30.

Morry came home at 5:00 and we went over to the gym. We decided to try it out at that time and see how crowded it was and see if that time would work for us. Again, I was on the treadmill for about 5 minutes before someone came and got me to tell me Noah was crying. They couldn’t get him to calm down, so we had to go in there. We hung out in the child care for a little bit and then tried to sneak out. We decided to workout another 10-15 minutes then leave. I was going to get back on the treadmill, but by then the line was really long. I didn’t think it was worth it to wait in line so long and then only be able to workout for 5 minutes. So, we came back in child care and Noah had just started crying again. As soon as I picked him up the tears stopped and he was talking and smiling.

We had a late dinner since we went to the gym. We made turkey burgers and corn on the cob.

We just put Evan and Noah to bed. I still hear noises from both of their rooms.

Football

Hello everyone, this is Morry. Rachel is talking to her parents on the phone so I'm writing the blog tonight.

This morning, the boys got up around 8:30am. Rachel got up with them and let me sleep, but I was already awake. I laid in bed for a bit but then got up.

Matt and Ben came over to watch the football games with the boys and me today. They came over around 11:45am. Evan and Ben immediately started playing with Evan's GeoTrax. They played really well together. Noah was busy crawling around looking at everything. Matt and I first watched the Eagles-Giants game. Matt is a big Eagles fan. The Eagles won the game so Matt was happy.

Meanwhile, Rachel tutored this afternoon. She got a call from a frantic parent yesterday so she went out there today.

At the end of the Eagles game, we put the boys down for a nap. Evan slept well, but Noah didn't really sleep. I guess he wanted to watch the Steelers game with me. I put him on my lap when the game began and he was very content for awhile. Then he just wanted to crawl around and play with all the toys. He was really smiley today.

After the Steelers game (which the Steelers won handily), Rachel picked up Little Caesars for us. Ben and Matt stayed for dinner.

We gave the boys a bath after dinner and put them down to bed. They both seem to be quiet which is a good thing.

Until next time...

Four-eyed Family

Hello everyone, this is Morry. This is the first post I've written in a week.

Last night, Noah got up a ton of times. Rachel and I alternated going in there. The boys seem to have runny noses again so I don't know if that was what was bothering Noah. His stomach may have been bothering him as well. Or it could simply be separation anxiety as he has shown some of that. In any event, he would get up every few hours.

When we finally got up for good, all of us went over to Rachel's eye doctor's office. She had gone for a checkup a few days ago and they said she needed to new glasses and that should wear them more often. She had picked out a few glasses and I gave her my opinion. So now Rachel and I will both be wearing glasses.

After that we went to Walmart to get a toy for a birthday party that we were going to this afternoon. We also got a booster/car seat for Evan for my car.

We went home and had lunch and Evan was very cranky. Actually, so was Noah. Both boys didn't eat too much and we put them down for a nap. Then I spent a long time getting the new car seats in the car for Evan and flipping the Evan's old car seats around so they are rear-facing for Noah. Now, Noah is officially out of the infant car seat. In about 2.5 months we can switch him to forward facing.

We got to the birthday party late because of the naps. It was at the Little Gym which is kind of like Gymboree. There were 21 toddlers there. It was nuts. That doesn't include some of the kids who had little siblings closer to Noah's age. Evan was a bit of a pain at first but he ended up having a good time. He had a cupcake and then wanted more. I gave him a bit of my cupcake.

Tonight, Blanca came over and babysat for the boys. Rachel's brother got us a gift card to the Alamo Drafthouse, as well as a $30 check for babysitting. The Alamo Drafthouse is a movie theater that also serves dinner. We went to go see Marley and Me. When we got there, it was already sold out so we saw Yes Man. It was decent. Probably a good rental. It was entertaining though. It was nice getting out.

When we got home Blanca was reading to Evan in bed. She had put him down a while before, but he got out of bed so she was trying to get him back to bed. I then read to him and put him down, but he's out of bed again. I hope he goes to sleep soon.

Until next time...

Bookstore

We had plans to meet Yenis and Kevin and Lisa and Sienna at the park this morning. We drove over there, but since it had rained a little last night the park was too wet to play. We decided to go to Barnes and Noble. We got coffee and watched the kids play with the train table. They all had a good time. Even Noah enjoyed playing with the trains. Evan was kind of clingy for some reason. He wanted to sit in my lap a lot. Evan said he wanted his own coffee. Occasionally, I’ll order him a non-coffee drink like Strawberries and Cream. I told him no, but I’d make a smoothie for him when we got home.

When we got home Evan reminded me about making a smoothie for him. He drank some of his smoothie and then said he wanted to go upstairs and get his blankets and then lie down on the floor. We went upstairs and I told him he could lie down in his room. He played in his room for a long time. While Evan was in his room I took Noah outside and gave him a haircut.

When I put Noah down for a nap Evan was still up and playing in his room. I got him ready for his nap and eventually he fell asleep.

We got our new DirecTV receiver today. Morry had to set it up this time, rather than the repair guy. There is an option when you set it up to choose if you have one line or two. Morry chose 1 since we just have one line coming down right now. We are wondering if the repair guy chose 2 and that’s what was causing all the problems. After Morry set up the new receiver it seems to be working well. We’ll see how it does tomorrow.

We went to Joe’s Crab Shack for dinner. Evan ate a ton of my crab. He’s never had crab before. I wasn’t sure if he would eat it, but he loved it. He only wanted to eat the meat from the legs though. I had to make sure to keep the meat together and in a long strip. He didn’t like eating the little stringy pieces.

More TV Trouble

We had another busy day.

On the way to school today Evan told me he didn’t want to go. I was worried I’d have to fight him going into school again today. As we were parking, Yenis and Kevin pulled up next to us. We all walked in together. That made things a lot easier. Evan didn’t complain at all.

After dropping Evan off Noah and I went to my doctor and had to get some blood drawn.

I stopped at CVS on the way home to pick up a few things.

At home I had just enough time to put away some toys, deal with laundry, give Noah lunch, and wolf down my lunch. Then, it was time to get Evan.

Wendy said Evan spilled his yogurt at lunch today. It was an accident, but he got yogurt all over his clothes. He kept telling me it was dry now. It didn’t look too bad.

At home, I vacuumed and mopped downstairs and then put Evan and Noah down for a nap.

I was able to nap just a little bit until I heard Evan playing with his Nemo book that has buttons on the side that makes sounds.

Blanca came at 4:00 and I tutored from 4:30-5:30.

I got home at 6:00. Morry made tacos for us for dinner.

After dinner we went to the gym. We had been working out for maybe 5 minutes before they paged us to come the child care. Noah had been crying the whole time and they couldn’t get him to stop. We spent the rest of the time at the gym in the kids’ area helping Noah get used to the place. We’d play with him or hold him and as soon as we walked away he would start crying again.

The TV situation is still driving us nuts. We are supposed to get a new receiver tomorrow. Because the receiver is messed up, every 12 hours it resets and stops working. You switch out cables and then it finally works again. The shows we wanted to watch tonight ended up not recording for some reason. In addition, the TV will freeze at times or not put out any sound. I’m hoping once we get this new receiver things will be better. If not, we are thinking about switching to that AT&T U-verse.

Non-stop day

I had a student scheduled for 12 noon and Blanca was coming at 11:30. I needed to do some things around the house and go to HEB before Blanca came. Evan and Noah got up around 8:30am. I took a very quick shower. Gave them breakfast, got a few things done, and then we went to HEB. We got back home two minutes before Blanca got here. I quickly unloaded the groceries and discussed lunch details for the boys. I threw some lunch stuff together to bring in the car.

I tutored the student, stopped at Old Navy and bought a couple of shirts, and then went to my eye doctor appointment. I scheduled a check-up because it had been about 7 ½ years since I last had my eyes checked. She said everything looked good and my prescription did change a little. They have this new system that scans your eye and takes a picture instead of the doctor having to dilate your eyes and look into them. It was nice not having to get my eyes dilated. I looked at different glasses frames for a while and narrowed it down to three. I’ll have Morry come look at them in the next few days so I can get his opinion.

For dinner we made steak for Morry and shrimp for me on the grill. Evan had two pieces of my shrimp, veggies (including the cauliflower he insisted we buy today), chick peas, applesauce, … He ate really well. I made him fish sticks too. He took a bite, but decided he didn’t like them.

I’m going out with Alissa tonight. Our plans are to go to a coffee shop where they have live salsa music.

9 Month Check-up

Morry worked from home today since we had Noah’s check-up. We all took Evan to school and then went to the doctor’s office. Everything looked good. Noah is 29 inches tall (75%) and 22 ½ lbs (50%). They had to do a blood test (standard for 9 month check-up) to check iron levels. We already got a call back today and everything was fine.

The check-up must have worn out Noah. When we got home he took a good morning nap. He woke up just in time for lunch. While I was feeding him, Morry went to pick up Evan at school. Evan did well. We weren’t sure how he would do after being on vacation for a while. Morry said on the way home Evan told him about his day. He told Morry who he played with and that one of his friends had a train he shared with Evan.

Evan and Noah went down for naps and slept for a while.

Blanca came at 3:30 and I left to tutor. I got home at 6:00 and we ate bbq chicken that I made in the crock pot and some pasta as a side.

After dinner we went to the gym. We signed up for a free 14 day trial. The gym was packed. We had to wait a while to get a treadmill. Evan and Noah did well in the kid’s club. Neither one cried. Evan told me at one point he went over and said hi to Noah.

After the gym we stopped at Smoothie King. Evan and I shared a smoothie. I had them pour some into his own cup. He loved that, of course.

They are both in bed and quiet now.

More DirecTv and Chick-Fil-A

So, we had to deal with DirecTV again this morning.

Last night we noticed that the guy had broken our new entertainment center. It’s not too bad. He just broke a screw in the back that connects the hutch to the table part. So, the hutch came unattached and was loose on the table. We also got some little nicks and scratches from moving the components in and out so much. It's really frustrating since we just bought this and paid a lot for it.

DirecTV sent 2 guys to our house this morning at 9am. They got the tv to work using one cable and I asked him to fix our entertainment center. The guy screwed the hutch back on, but not before centering it. He screwed it on crooked and hanging slightly off the table. A few minutes after they left the tv stopped working again and I notice the hutch off-centered. I ran outside to try and catch them, but they had already left. I spent an hour on the phone with DirecTV after that. I’m not exaggerating. Evan and Noah were very good for most of the time I was on the phone. I was furious with DirecTV. I spoke to two different managers. We are very close to just canceling our service. I told them that and asked for a good reason we should stay. The only thing the supervisor said was that we have been customers for a while and that they are the only ones with NFL Sunday Ticket. I said if that’s all he could come up, that was pretty sad. I said I didn’t even care about football. They tried to offer a few incentives, none of which were that great. The satellite is still not working the way it should. They are supposed to give us a new receiver in 2-5 business days.

Since I was on the phone all morning, by the time I got off the phone with DirecTV it was lunch time. I was trying to decide what to make us for lunch. I asked Evan what he wanted for lunch and he said Chick-Fil-A. I called Morry to see if he wanted to go out to lunch with us. Of course he said yes. On the way to Morry’s work Evan said he wanted to go inside the building. Evan was very happy pressing the elevator buttons and the door bell of the office door.

When we parked at Chick-Fil-A there were a few policemen with motorcycles parked near us. On the way inside Evan said he wanted to talk to the policemen. Morry took him over there and when Morry and Evan came inside I saw Evan had a big police badge sticker. He was very proud of it.

Evan did very well at Chick-Fil-A. He ate all of his nuggets and fruit. Morry took Evan to play on the indoor playground while I fed Noah.

When we came home I gave Evan a haircut. His hair was getting pretty wild and puffy looking. I took Evan and Noah on the backyard patio. It was cold outside, but we weren’t out there too long. When we came in I gave Evan one pixie stick for being good during the haircut. He had never had a pixie stick before. Of course, he loved it. He wanted to pour it in his mouth by himself. I let him, but he got the blue sugar powder all over his shirt. Oh well, there was hair all over the shirt any way. I put bibs on him during the haircut – 2 bibs, one covering his chest and one covering his back, but there were still a few pieces of hair that got past the bibs.

Evan and Noah took good naps.

For dinner I made a chicken and rice soup and we had some dinner rolls with it.

The boys are in bed now and it seems quiet up there.

Another DirecTV day

This morning Noah first got up around 7am and then got up for the day around 8am or so. I fed and changed Noah and let Morry sleep in. Evan slept very well and didn’t get up until 10:30am. He really needed the sleep.

We went to Chuy’s for lunch. Normally the wait at Chuy’s can be 1-2 hours. We called around 11:30 to check the wait time and they said there was no wait at that time. We left as soon as we could and got there and got seated with no problems. We just beat the church crowd. When we were leaving about an hour later it was packed. Noah slept in his car seat almost the whole time we were there. Evan behaved well, but didn’t eat much. Evan enjoyed watching the ladies make the tortillas. They have a little window where you can watch the tortillas being made.

At 2:30 Evan, Noah, and I took Grandmom/Marilyn to the airport. Since the DirecTv guy was on his way, Morry stayed at the house and I took the boys with me.

Today was another long DirecTV day. It is now after 10pm and the guy is still here. I don’t know what is going on or taking so long, but they aren’t able to hook up the HD. He was banging around in the attic so much that neither Evan nor Noah was able to nap. I tried to put Noah down for a nap and he maybe slept a couple of minutes before we was woken up from the all the attic noise. We didn’t even try putting Evan down because we knew it was pointless. Morry was helping the guy all day. He was up and down in the attic and pulling wires from down below. By the end of the day Evan and Noah were both pretty cranky. It was tough.

We ended up just making pasta, mostly because it was all we had in the house. We need to go to HEB, but we haven’t had a chance to go.

I think they are supposed to come back again tomorrow and work more on this. I just hope they get it working soon so we can get DirectTV people out of our house

Evan the Good

Hello everyone, this is Morry. Rachel is cleaning up the kitchen a bit, so she asked me to write the blog.

Well, Evan continued his better behavior today. He got up at around 8am (unfortunately, he didn't sleep too much). Once Noah got up and Evan had breakfast, Grandmom/Marilyn, Noah, Evan and I went out shopping. We let Rachel have some alone time, something she doesn't often get.

First we went to Toys R Us where, Evan got even more GeoTrax stuff. He got a bag of tracks and a bridge. He's definitely getting a bit spoiled with the GeoTrax stuff. Then the four of went to Nordstroms to look for shoes for me. Evan was terrific at Nordstrom's. First he walked around with the thing that measures your feet. He measured his feet, my feed, Noah's feet and Grandmom's feet. Then he walked around with me picking out shoes for me. Then he found some folded up paper that came along with one of the shoes and told us that it was a train ticket. It actually had holes punched in it so he liked that.

I promised Evan that after I got shoes, we could go over to the kids shoes where they have a fish tank. When we got over there they had these Thomas the Tank Engine boots/galoshes. Evan immediately took off his shoes and wanted to put them on. I helped him put them on. Then he saw a rain coat that looked like a firefighter coat. He put that on. He looked really cute. We ended up getting him some shoes while we were there but not those boots.

Meanwhile, Noah was having a great time playing with the sock he pulled off his foot and looking around at all the people.

When we came home, Evan didn't want lunch, he just wanted to play with his GeoTrax.

We had ordered HD from DirecTV and someone was supposed to come and put up the new dish and drop a line to our TV. The guy came with his 12-year-old son at about 1pm. His son played GeoTrax with Evan. The guy didn't have a ladder tall enough to get to our roof. We ended up borrowing our neighbor's ladder. It took the guy until about 7:30pm to set up the dish and receiver. He didn't end up dropping the line because he had someone to go to after us. He's coming back tomorrow to do that. The son was really good with both Evan and Noah.

Noah has really started saying Mama and Dada. He's not really using it to refer to Rachel and me but he just babbles Mamamamamama and Dadadadada. He's really "talking" a lot now. It's so cute. He's been so happy for the last week.

Both boys are in bed now. It seems that they are quiet. Hopefully they have a good night sleep.

Until next time...

Evan the Better

Evan did better today. He still had the occasional bad moods, but he was much better.

Last night, Noah got up again around 5am. I don’t know why he’s been doing that.

This morning Alissa, Ben, and Molly came over for a little bit on their way to Houston. The kids enjoyed playing together. Even Noah looked like he fit in playing in the middle of the floor with all the kids.

Marilyn/Grandmom insisted on buying GeoTrax for Evan. We called around the whole city trying to find stores that still had GeoTrax stuff in stock. One of the Walmarts in the city said they had some GeoTrax stuff left. We went to Subway for lunch and then went over to Walmart. Marilyn bought a ton of GeoTrax for Evan. Evan was very happy.

We let Evan open one of the boxes when we got home, but saved the rest for after nap.

When Morry got home, Evan was napping and Morry set up the GeoTrax at that time. When Evan came downstairs and saw the tracks all set up he was so excited. In fact, he didn’t want to leave for dinner because he was busy playing.

We went to Benihana (hibachi style where they cook food in front of you). Matt joined us and we all drove together in our car. Both Evan and Noah did really well. Evan really liked watching the guy cook the food and light the big fires. I opened a pair of chopsticks for Evan and showed him how to use them. He was actually able to pick up 2 pieces of shrimp and eat them all on his own.

Evan the Bad

Hello everyone, this is Morry. Happy New Year to everyone.

Last night, Rachel and I got home around 1am from our dinner and a party at Mike and Melissa's. At 5am, Noah got up. I gave him a pacifier and he fell back asleep. At 8am, he got up again. This time I had to change his diaper and feed him, but he did go back to sleep. I laid down but never really fell back asleep.

Evan got up around 9:30am and he was in a good mood. It seemed like it might be a good day. He immediately told Grandmom/Marilyn that he wanted GeoTrax. We told him we'd go out to Kohl's to see if we could find some since we had seen a bunch there prior to Christmas.

We got ready to go and decided we'd go to Which Wich for lunch. Evan said he wanted to go to Kohl's first. We said no. That started The Mood. He immediately threw a fit and refused to smile or act happy until we go to Kohl's. No matter what we did he insisted on being in a bad mood.

Unfortunately, Kohl's was picked over and they didn't have an GeoTrax. Then we went to Walmart to see if they had any. They also were out. Evan actually took the disappointment well considering his mood.

We put the boys down for a nap and of course Evan threw a fit because he didn't want to go upstairs.

After their naps, we decided to order dinner from Natural Planet Grill. It's a new place that opened up near us. Evan insisted on coming with me to pick up the food. On the way, he was in a great mood and asked me to call Grandma/Lynn and Papa/Lenny over the bluetooth in the car. He was well behaved while we waited for the food.

When we got home it was a different story. He spent most of dinner whining. When we said we were going to take him upstairs for a bath, he threw a fit. He cried through much of the bath, alternating between having fun playing and crying. We asked him if he felt sick, if anything hurt. He told us he was fine and nothing hurt. Maybe he's just going through the terrible twos. I hope this stage ends soon.

Both boys are in bed now and quiet. I hope that means they are sleeping.

Until next time...
