Many Activities

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan was not sore this morning.  In fact, he was in a great mood and was very playful before school.

Noah got up and played Wii for a while.  Rachel eventually got him to go outside with her and play some baseball.

At 12:30, Cole came over.  They played Wii for a while and then went into the cul-de-sac and rode their scooters.

Rachel picked Evan up with Noah and they got ice cream.  We had a gift certificate that was going to expire today.

When Evan came home, he played baseball for a bit and then did his homework.

Noah had a game at 5:45 and Evan had practice at 6pm.  Rachel was tutoring.  One parent could take Evan if we dropped him off at their place, but the boy on Evan's team had swimming before that.  So Rachel dropped Evan off at their place on her way to tutoring.

Around 5, I took Noah to his baseball game.  He really did well in the field.  In left field he stopped a ball and threw it to second.  They almost got the boy out.  It would have been Noah's first assist.  He also ran really well on a ball hit to the outfield when he was on first.  He didn't hesitate at second.  He picked up the third base coach and kept going and ended up scoring.  It was one of his best games of the season.

From there, we went over and watched the last 30 minutes of Evan's practice.  He was being aggressive as usual.  He slid into home and got a scrape and a cut on his ankle.  The coach told Evan that he loved Evan's cut.   It showed he was playing hard.

On the way home we picked up McDonald's for the boys.  They finished their food on before we got home.

I put the boys to bed although they are not sleeping.

Until next time...

Workout

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, I got Evan up for school.  He didn't seem like he was in a good mood, though he didn't give me a hard time.  I just think he was tired.  I think he's just about ready for the school year to end.  Not that he doesn't like it, but it's been nearly 9 months of school now.

Noah got up while I was in the shower.  I got breakfast for him when I got out.  He seemed to be in a good mood. Rachel said he kept testing her later on though.  He asked for bread and jelly and then said he didn't want it...things like that.

This afternoon, Gabby came to babysit.  Rachel dropped her and Noah off to get Evan and then they all walked home.

I took Evan for a free class to test out this baseball program today.  They teach fundamentals but they also work on strength and how to throw right to gain velocity on pitches and bat speed.  It turns out that there was a boy there that Evan played tee ball with in his first year in tee ball.  For the first hour, they worked on core strength exercises.  They did many exercises up and down the stairs.  Then they used a heavy ball to twist their mid-section.  They got a band and exercised their arms and shoulders.  I wasn't sure what Evan would think of that.  He had never done it at all.  In the last 30 minutes they worked on throwing mechanics and moved into pitching as well.  I think Evan really enjoyed learning how to pitch.  I was very curious to hear what he thought at the end.  He said he really enjoyed it and wanted to do it again.  He liked it so much that when we got home, he went outside and played more baseball while I made dinner.

Rachel came home and we had dinner.  Then we put the boys to bed.  We're wondering if Evan may be sore tomorrow.

Until next time...

Clean Up and More Baseball

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Both boys woke up early this morning.  It's been a busy weekend so I thought they'd sleep in a bit more.  Evan poured cereal for both boys.  They played very well together this morning.

Rachel came down and cleaned a bit and then cut up fruit as part of the lunch for everyone.  I had gotten Rachel a new hard drive for her computer and I was getting it ready.

After lunch, Rachel trimmed Lizzy while the boys cleaned up.

Rachel went to tutor and then I took the boys to Evan's baseball games.

Evan's team was playing a team that was 3-9.  Unfortunately, they ended up in a tie.  Evan's team blew a 20-10 lead.  Evan played well.  He tagged a kid out who was trying to take third on a single.  He also fielded a ball cleanly at third and got the force there.  In his first at-bat he got under it and popped it up. In his second bat, he lined a ball just over the second baseman's head that went to the gap and Evan wound up with a triple.  In his third at bat, he really hit the ball hard, right at the shortstop who was able to throw him out.  Evan seemed ok with the tie.

We came home and had dinner.

The boys had showers (along with Lizzy) and they are now in bed.

Until next time...

Morning Baseball

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan and Noah both had games in the morning today.  It was nice as their games were back-to-back.  For most of the season, when they've each had games on the same day, they've been separated by a few hours.  But today, they were both in the morning and then we had the afternoon to relax.

Evan got up first and came in our room.  My alarm was not set to go off for another 25 minutes so Evan laid down in bed with us.  Noah came in just as my alarm went off.

We got ready to go and put their uniforms on. Then we stopped at a donut shop.  Evan got the donut he really likes.  Noah got a cinnamon bun - though he still has not eaten it.

Noah's game was first.  The other team played well but Noah's team still prevailed.  I believe they are 14-0 though I'll have to check the schedule.  Noah got three hits and ran well as usual.  He seems to really enjoy playing which is great.  Half-way through Noah's game, I ran Evan over to warm up for his team.

Evan's team was playing the first-placed team in his league.  Evan had played them in the first game of the season.  They came back and won in the last at-bat.  Today, Evan's team totally dominated.  They invoked the mercy rule when Evan's team went up by 11 in the fifth inning.  It was great.  Every kid was hitting.  Evan continued his super hard hitting.  In the first inning, he hit a hard ground ball that the shortstop was able to get to in very deep short but he didn't have a play so it ended up a single.  In his second at-bat, Evan smacked a ball down the third base line.  The third baseman dove for it and barely got his glove on it, enough to deflect it in the corner in left field.  Evan wound up with a double.  Evan went between short and third in his third at-bat.  It was hit with such force that it rolled to the fence before anyone could get to it.  Again, Evan ended up with a double.

We came home and I got lunch ready for the boys while Rachel started the laundry.  We keep having to wash because of back-to-back games and we need the uniforms clean.  Especially Evan's uniform which always has dirt and grass stains all over it.

The boys watched a movie in the afternoon.

For dinner we went to Rudy's.  From there we went to the mall for Rachel to get a new watch battery.  The boys saved up money and put their money together to buy a Lego City set at the Lego store.

We came home and Evan is already in bed.  I don't know if I hear him so he may be asleep already.

Until next time..

It's Friday

This morning I had to wake Noah up around 9am to get ready for school.  He had show and tell today and took a little koala bear stuffed animal in to school.

When I picked him up he was in a good mood.

I left to tutor around 2:30 and Morry and Noah went to get Evan from school.

When I got home from tutoring Morry and Evan were playing football in the front yard and Noah was inside playing Wii.

For dinner we ate at home since we were all pretty tired and the weather was gross.

Now we are getting the boys ready for bed.

Busy Calendar Day

This morning Noah woke up early on his own around 7am.  He was happy that we woke up that early and could play some Wii.

Noah and I spent the morning at home until it was time to go to the Little Gym.  Noah had fun there and we came back home.

Noah came with me to get Evan at school.

Blanca came over at 4pm and I left to tutor.

Both boys had baseball practice today so Morry took Noah to his practice. Dropped him off,  and then went with Evan to his.  When my tutoring was over I went to Noah's practice to pick him up.

When Noah and I got home I got dinner ready for boys and mostly ready for us.  Noah was hungry so he went ahead and ate.  When Morry and Evan got home around 8pm, we ate our dinner.

Evan's reading to Morry now and then we'll put the kids to bed.

Middle of the Week

Today I had to wake Noah up around 9am to go to school.  He was a little bit cranky, but once he ate breakfast he was fine.

I took Noah to school and I tutored this morning.

I got Noah from school and then Gabby came over.

I tutored and got home around 5:45.

Morry and Evan were outside playing football and Noah was inside playing wii.

We made leftover tacos for dinner.

Now, we'll get the boys ready for bed.

Exciting Game

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning was a typical morning.  I woke Evan up and took him to school.

When Noah got up later, he was mad that I hadn't woken him up at 7am.  He has been wanting me to wake him up so he can play the Wii.  Rachel and Noah went to the bank later in the morning.

Around noon, Rachel took Noah to Cole's house.

She picked Noah up and then picked Evan up from school.

In the afternoon, Evan played baseball outside.  Rachel went to tutor and then I got dinner ready for the boys as Evan had a baseball game.

Evan's two coaches were both not available for the game.  The first base coach took over to pitch and a couple of other dads, including myself helped run the game and coach the bases.  Evan's team began the night in 4th place and they were playing the third place team.  The game did not being well.  The other team scored their five runs while Evan's team had a three up/three down inning.  In the 2nd inning, the other team scored 3 runs to take an 8-0 lead.  Evan's team scratched and clawed to score 2 runs.  Evan ended up hitting basically a swinging bunt and ran hard down the line.  He was clearly safe but the umpire didn't signal anything and kind of looked at me.  I said "he was safe".  The umpire called Evan out.  I didn't yell at the ump but I made a fairly big scene and a "you're kidding me" gesture.  I ended up apologizing to the umpire after the inning.  Evan was not happy about the call and was still complaining about it after the game.  Somehow, Evan's team started limiting the other team from scoring too many while they were scoring their 5 runs.  It ended up coming into the bottom of the 6th (the last inning) with the other team up by 2 runs.  Evan's team had runners on first and second with two outs.  The boy up singled into the outfielder and the outfielder bobbled it.  One run scored, and the runner from first got to third and they sent him home who ended up scoring.  The batter took third on the throw home and the catcher threw to third to try to get him out.  The third baseman missed it and the batter came home for the winning run.  It was very exciting.  The kids on Evan's team were really excited.  They were going crazy.  It was just a nice win for those kids.  They really tried hard and never got down.

We came home and I got the boys ready for bed.  Evan was exhausted but Noah seemed to be awake.

Until next time...

Start of the week

After dropping off Noah at school I came home, ate breakfast, and then got ready for tutoring.

I tutored and then stopped at Target on the way back to pick up Noah from school.

Gabby came over.  She and Noah went to get Evan while I left to tutor.

When Morry came home he took the boys to Noah's game.  Noah's team won again and they had a good time.

We got home around the same time (7pm).  For dinner we had tacos.

We just got the boys ready for bed and now they are in their rooms.

Play date then Baseball

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I slept in some again this morning since we didn't have an early baseball game.  Rachel did have to get up at 9:30 as she ended up tutoring the girl who cancelled yesterday.

The boys spent the morning playing with Legos while I did some work.

I made lunch for the boys and then they had to clean up.  As usual, they gave us a bit of a hard time about cleaning up, but they still did it.  Their rooms were a disaster.  They had to stop around 2 as Jack invited them over to play.

After Rachel and I dropped the boys off at Jack's we went out and ran some errands.  When we came home, we still had time before I picked the boys up, so we sat outside on the porch.  We don't often get to do that, but it was nice.  Temperature-wise, it was great.

I picked Evan up at 4 and got him ready for his game.  Noah came with us to warm ups.  When I asked Evan how he hit in the batting cages he responded "Great".  He's definitely feeling good about hitting right now.  The team played fairly listlessly in the first inning, though Evan had a single into shallow right field.  But in the second inning, the team came alive.  In the bottom of the second, Evan was playing catcher.  With two outs there was a hit to the right field.  The outfielder threw it to the second baseman who threw it home to Evan.  The throw was high but Evan jumped for it and in one motion came down to tag the boy out.  The team went crazy with excitement.  That seemed to really energize the team.  In the third inning, Evan was playing third base.  A kid was trying to stretch a double into a triple.  The shortstop threw to Evan covering third and Evan tagged that kid out.  Evan ended up 2-for-2 with two singles.  His second single was a shot up the middle between the 2nd baseman and shortstop.

Rachel left when the game was over to start dinner.  I stayed around while the boys got their snacks after the game.

When we got home, Rachel had made salmon for her and the boys to share.  I made myself a small pork tenderloin.

The boys finished cleaning up, then had showers and now they're in bed.

Until next time...

The Hammer

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel was supposed to tutor this morning.  But we slept/laid in bed until she needed to get up to get ready.  The boys went downstairs and played with the Wii.  As Rachel was getting ready, her phone rang.  Her tutoring got canceled.

We took it easy until it was time for Evan to eat and get ready for his baseball game.  Noah continued to play the Wii while I got stuff ready for Evan and me.  He ate his lunch and I took him over to the game.

Rachel and Noah got to Evan's game before it started but Noah was in a really bad mood.  Rachel ended up just taking him home before Evan's game started.

For the last few weeks, Evan has been really hitting the ball well during practice and batting practice.  It hasn't completely translated to the games.  He'll have a really hard hit here and there but nothing as consistent as practice. That changed last Sunday and continued today.  He was hitting the ball with such authority today.  He ended up 3-for-3 with three doubles.  One of the balls was hit to deep left field.  He wasn't running as fast as he should have.  He could have ended up with a triple.  But his best play was when he was playing left centerfield.  A kid hit the ball hard and it bounced off the fence on the fly.  Evan played it perfectly off the fence and turned and threw it in to second holding the boy to a single.  It was a big play as the Evan's team ended up winning by one run.

From there we came home, got ready really quick and then picked up Jack.  The Round Rock Express were having Oak Hill Baseball Night at the stadium.  All the kids participated in a parade on the field prior to the game.  We met up with a bunch of Evan's teammates.  The only players from Noah's team were Noah and Jack.  They were all being silly before the parade.  They were on the jumbotron a few times.

We got home and put the boys to bed.

Until next time...

What's happening

This morning Morry took his car into the shop for yearly maintenance.  After I dropped off Noah I picked him up and we came back home.  A few hours later we went back out to get the car and then I picked up Noah on the way home.

I did some cleaning today while Noah was at school and got some groceries at HEB.

As a fundraiser for the PTA, Evan's teacher was having an after school activity for kids in the class. Evan really wanted to do it.  So, he stayed at school until 5pm today.  I think they did some centers in the classroom and played outside.

For dinner we tried a new pizza place called Pieous.  Morry and Evan really liked it.  Noah hardly ate any of the pizza because "there was too much sauce".  I thought it was ok.

We took a walk around the neighborhood tonight.

In a little bit we'll get the kids ready for bed.

Busy Thursday

Noah wanted to get up early again and play Wii so Morry woke him up.

When it was time for Noah and I to leave this morning he was pretty cranky.  I'm not sure if this early morning Wii playing is a good idea.  We'll see.

Noah came with me to my tutoring this morning and towards the end, the mom of the student took him over to Chick Fil A and I met them there.

From there, Noah and I went to the Little Gym.  Noah had a good time.

We were home for a little bit and then it was time to get Evan.

Evan was pretty hyper.  I had rained today so he didn't have outside recess.

Blanca came over at 4pm and I left to tutor.

When Morry got home we took the boys to Evan's baseball practice.

I picked up Noah from the practice and brought him home when I was done tutoring.

Morry and Evan got home around 8pm and we had pasta for dinner.

Evan is reading to Morry now and then we'll get them to bed.

Noah's Zoo Field Trip

Noah told Morry last night he wanted to get up early to play Wii.  So, Morry woke up Noah before leaving to take Evan to school.  Noah was happy playing Wii this morning.

I went with Noah on his class field trip to the zoo.  It was nice.  The kids had fun and we all ate our picnic lunches there before leaving.

Gabby come over at 2:30 and took Noah to get Evan.  I left to tutor.

When Morry got home he took Noah and Evan to Noah's baseball game.  It was a good game and Noah's team won again (but barely).

We all got home around 7pm and had leftovers for dinner.

Now we are going to the get the boys ready for bed.

Sleeping Noah

This morning Noah woke up at 11am!

One he was up and dressed we went to Sams Club.

Around 12:30 Cole came over and stayed until about 2:30.

Morry worked from home this afternoon, so Noah stayed at home while I got Evan from school.

We had an early dinner (Sprite chicken) and then I left to tutor.

I got home around 9:30.  The boys were still awake, but in their rooms.

Dentist for Evan

This morning I dropped Noah off at school and then picked up Evan for his dentist appointment.

Evan did very well.  He had 2 cavities filled.  We were able to bring a movie from home for him to watch on the overhead screen.  He chose Milo and Otis.  The cavities were not as bad as the dentist originally thought so we were able to get both filled today.

As soon as we got in the car Evan started whining about the pain.  I offered to get him an Icee at HEB, but when we got there he didn't want it.  They said I could give him some Motrin if he was uncomfortable, but he didn't want to take any medicine.

I got Noah from school and then made smoothies for the boys.  Once Evan had his smoothie he was acting like nothing had happened.  He was pretty much back to normal and was even eating snacks.

Gabby came and I left to tutor.

Morry and the boys had dinner at home and I got home around 8pm.

Evan seemed fine tonight.  He was even a bit hyper.

Eight wins, No Losses

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning I got up around 8am.  Evan was already up.  I had a bit of work I wanted to do and I promised the boys we'd go see The Croods.  I let Noah sleep in.  He came downstairs around 9:30.

We decided to go see the movie at the Alamo Drafthouse.  They have a bottomless bowl of popcorn there so that's what we got.  It ended up being much cheaper than a traditional movie place.  The movie was pretty good.  It wasn't as clever as Wreck-It Ralph.  It was much more of an old-style cartoon with lots of people getting rolled over by boulders or falling down.  There were some pretty funny parts.

When we got home, the boys went upstairs and played with Legos.

I had a business meeting in the afternoon.

Evan had a game this afternoon.  His team won again.  Evan had a pretty good game.  He was crushing the ball today, although he ended up just 1 for 3 in batting.  In his first at-bat he smoked a ball between short and third which rolled all the way to the fence.  Evan ended up with a triple.  You could actually hear people say "Whoa!" when he hit it because it was hit so hard.  In his second at-bat, he turned on the first pitch for probably the hardest hit ball I've ever seen him hit but it went foul.  It was a line drive that would have landed about 10 feet from the fence had it gone straight.  Unfortunately, that got him all amped up.  I think he realized how far it went and wanted to do it again.  He fouled off the next pitch again and then swung hard on the third pitch but missed.  In his third at-bat he hit another hard shot, this time to second.  It was right at the second baseman.  It was hit so hard that he had no chance to beat it out.  He also caught a high pop-up when he was playing third and he made a nice catch when it looked like a kid was going to try to take an extra base.

So our teams ended up with eight wins and no losses for the weekend.  Evan's team won twice, Noah's team won once, the Pirates swept the Reds in three games and the Penguins won their two games.  Overall it was a good weekend.

When we got home, Rachel was here.  The boys were excited to see her.

The boys are in bed now but not sleeping.

Until next time...

Wins

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning Noah had a baseball game at 10:15.  I got up around 8am and took my time getting the boys ready.  It was a very nice morning this morning.  It was the perfect temperature.  As usual, Noah's team dominated the game.  Noah had a good play where he ran very fast from first to second to avoid getting out.  If he hadn't left first immediately when the ball was hit, he would have been out.

On the way home, we stopped at Target.  The boys got gift cards at their birthday party last week so they wanted to get Legos.  Noah got a SpongeBob one and Evan got Star Wars.

I made lunch while they were building the Legos.

They played with Legos and the Wii in the afternoon while I worked.  When I finished up, Evan and I played football outside.

We had a very early dinner because Evan had a game at 6:30 and we had to be there at 5:30.

Evan's team dominated their game as well.  They had played very poorly last weekend but they made all the key plays today.  Evan didn't have that great of a game.  He seemed to be swinging under the pitches and fouling the ball a lot.  He did get two hits in the game and popped out to the pitcher once.  In the field, he didn't get any opportunities, unfortunately.  Even with that, he still was in a good mood. He was very happy his team won.

Noah spent the whole game with Garrett, as usual.  Garrett's mom took them to the concession stand twice.  The first time, before the game, Noah asked me if he could go along.  All I had was a twenty dollar bill so I gave it to Noah and told him he could get one thing and to bring me the change.  Noah immediately went around and showed everyone he had a twenty dollar bill.  Kids from Evan's team who were in line waiting to take their turn left their place in line to see the money.  I started to worry I'd never see that money again.   I'm not sure what Noah bought with it actually, but he got cotton candy for Evan.  Then later, during the game, Noah told me he wanted a hot dog.  I said fine and gave him a five from the change he had brought back.

We got home and I put the kids to bed.

Until next time..

No Rachel

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel left for Dallas yesterday so it's just the boys at home (and Lizzy).  Because Rachel wasn't here, I had to bring Noah with me when I took Evan to school.  Waking Noah up was difficult.  He didn't want to get up and he was very cranky.  He cried and screamed the entire way walking the path into the school.  He calmed down when we got into school and then he was in a good mood the rest of the morning.

I dropped Noah off at school and worked.  When I picked him up, he still was in a good mood.

The two of us went to get Evan.  It was pretty warm out.

The boys had snacks and played while I finished up work.

Evan and I played football outside when I finished up and then we went to HEB.  I let the boys pick out something "fun" to eat at dinner tonight.  They chose a pasta that looked like brains.

Noah fell asleep while we ate dinner.  I put on Despicable Me for Evan.  Noah woke up about half way through and wanted dinner but again he was in a terrible mood.

I put the boys to bed and they are in their rooms.

Until next time...

Lots of tutoring

After dropping off Noah this morning I went to a therapy massage/treatment.  From there I tutored a student for an hour.

I came home and started getting dinner ready for tonight.

I picked up Noah and had just a little bit of time at home to get snacks ready for the boys and get ready for tutoring.

Gabby came over and then went with Noah to get Evan from school.

I tutored 4 students this afternoon and got home around 7:45.

While I was gone Morry gave the boys dinner and got them ready for bed.

Morry and I ate our dinner after the boys were in bed.

Noah Wins Again

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan was pretty tired when I got him up this morning.  It was a busy weekend this past weekend so I don't think he got rest.  To be honest, I'm not sure any one of us will get any rest until after baseball season.

Noah and Rachel relaxed this morning.  At 12:30, Rachel took Noah over to Cole's house to play.  He always has such a good time with Noah.

Rachel picked Noah up from Cole's and then went at got Evan from school.

Rachel left for tutoring at the same time that Evan, Noah and I left for Noah's baseball game.  We picked Jack up on the way to the game.  Jack was out in the driveway waiting for us making faces and being silly.  Jack is very silly and he makes Evan really laugh.

Noah's team won again.  They were beating the other team so badly that the coach asked me to put all the younger kids in the key positions in the last inning.  I asked Noah if he wanted to go to pitcher but he said no.  I put him at shortstop.  He took one really hard shot that bounced up and got him in the shoulder.  He almost got a boy out at second base on that.  He paused for just a second to touch his shoulder.  Had he not done that, I think he would have gotten the boy out.  He stopped it and picked it up quickly which was important.

When we came home, I made dinner for us.

The boys are now in bed.

Until next time...

Evan's Dentist Appointment

This morning after dropping Noah off at school I picked up Evan and took him to the dentist for a checkup.

It turns out he has 2 cavities.  He was having some gum pain that we and the dentist thought was from his molars growing in.  It turned out, he had 2 cavities, one of which was causing the mild pain for him.  Both are on his baby molars. They said it's important we got those fixed because he needs to keep those teeth in until he's about 12.  If for some reason they have to come out, they'll put spacers in to make sure the jaw forms right until the time when his teeth should have come out on their own.  We have an appointment on Monday to get the cavities filled.  Besides that, the visit went well.  Everything else looks good and Evan was very good there.  He got to pick a prize at the end. He choose a bag of plastic bugs.

I dropped Evan off at school and shortly after it was time to get Noah.

Gabby came over and I left to tutor.

When Morry got home he packed food for the boys and they went to the baseball field.  Morry volunteered for concession stand duty tonight.  The boys played and ate while Morry and the other parents worked.   I picked up Evan and Noah around 7:30 when I was done tutoring.  Morry stayed until 8:30.

On the way home we stopped at Target to get a few things.

The boys are in bed now.  It's been a long day for all of us.  Now it's time for me to finally eat some dinner.

The Big Birthday Party

Today was the big day.  We had a birthday party to celebrate both boys' birthdays.  We had more than 30 kids here at the house in addition to all the other parents and adults.  Our house and yard was packed with people.  We had Mad Science do a demonstration and some hands on activities.  The kids made goo and cotton candy.

It was a nice, successful day.

Here are pictures.
