Busy Afternoon

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Yesterday, we cut the cord.  We got rid of cable.  We increased our internet connection to 300 Mbps but got rid of TV.  We will now be watching all of our TV via Netflix or something similar.  It took two cable guys nearly 4 hours to get it set up and it went well into the evening.  But we're all set up now.

This morning we walked to school.  Our neighbor, Brody, rode his bike with us as we walked to school.  Brody is Noah's age but he was following Evan closely.

I went to Aaron's for a bit and then met a dad whose son has played baseball for lunch.

Rachel had a big Costco run while I was gone.

In the afternoon, we walked to get the boys.  As has been the case, Evan and Noah ran up ahead and beat us to the house.

Rachel left shortly after getting home to tutor Audrey.  She came home and picked Noah up and took him to another place to tutor.

I left with Evan and picked up Darius to go to baseball practice.  We have two fill-ins that are playing with us this weekend so they came to practice.  So we had more participants at practice than we normally have.  It was fun.  Evan pitched quite a bit today.  It was good seeing him out there.

After practice, I drove Darius to Cheddars where his family was and dropped him off there.  Evan and Darius had a ton of fun in the car and it was tough separating them.

We had rotisserie chicken from Costco for dinner.

Noah is now reading to me as I write the blog.  The kids will then go to bed.

Until next time...

Championship

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The Bucs earned the 3rd seed in the tournament and earned the bye that comes with it.  Because of that, our first game was not until 12:30.  I tried to sleep in some and we took it very easy this morning.  We had to be there at 11:30 so we left the house around 10:30 to stop at the bank and go to Donut Taco Palace.

The Bucs dominated the first game, winning 14-2.  Evan played well.  He scored at least two runs but I think he scored three.  He played primarily third base in the game but also some second base.

We had some time off before our second game, the semifinal game.  The team that we were playing was the other top team in the tournament that was rained out a few weeks ago.  Apparently they've been wanting to play us.  We jumped out fast to a 5-0 lead.  Evan walked in his first at-bat but was stranded at second.  He legged out an infield single in his second at-bat.  After an inning and a half we were up 9-0.  The final score was 11-5.  They scored a few runs at the end of the game well after the game was decided.

We tried to get fruit and water into the kids in the 15 minutes before the championship game.  The team the Bucs played in the championship were very experienced.  They had a pitcher who totally dominated.  Our kids were having trouble catching up to his pitches.  On top of that, he was highly accurate getting many called strikes.  Evan played well defensively at second base the whole game and the whole team played good defense but it was too hard to overcome and we lost.  So the Bucs took second place in a 12-team tournament.  They should be proud of themselves.

As we were getting in the car we got the text that Rachel and Noah had landed.

Evan and I stopped at Subway on the way home.  Evan said his stomach was eating itself it was so hungry.  Evan ate well.

By the time we got home, Rachel and Noah had gotten home and they picked up Subway for themselves.

The kids are now asleep after their long days.

Until next time...

Austin Bucs

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

While Rachel and Noah are having fun in San Diego, the Austin Bucs were scheduled to play two today for the first day of a tournament.  I woke Evan up at the time I normally get him up for school.  He was pretty tired, but I think he was excited to play.

We had to stop at the bank on the way out and then we went to Donut Taco Palace for our normal pre-tournament breakfast.

In the first game, the starting pitcher struggled in the first inning.  Evan was playing third base.  The runner on third took too big a lead and the pitcher threw over to Evan.  The runner broke for home and Evan threw a perfect strike to get the runner out and end the inning.  The coach put Evan in to pitch in the second inning.  Evan needed 11 pitches to strike out two players and get an easy pop up for a 1-2-3 inning.  In the third inning, Evan went back out to pitch.  The first batter hit a ball between third and short.  The third baseman dove for it and ended up knocking the ball away from the shortstop.  It would have been a tough play even if he had gotten it.  Evan thinks it was an error.  I don't know.  Either way, it was the first base runner that Evan has allowed in 4 appearances dating back to September.  That boy stole second and third and scored on a easy ground out.  Like the base runner, the last time a runner had scored on Evan was 4 appearances ago.  In the fourth inning, Evan went back out there and gave up two solid hits to start the inning.  They were good pitches but the kids hit them well.  It didn't seem to faze Evan one bit and he quickly got the next three batters out to finish the game for a win.

In the second game, we struggled a bit with our pitches.  Darius came in to save us in this game.  Evan had a nice game.  He walked a couple times and scored.  The Bucs won this game to go 2-0 for Saturday.  That should be good enough to give us a bye tomorrow so we can start later in the day.

Evan and I went to Chick-fil-A for lunch.

For dinner, Mangieri's a local pizzeria sponsored the Bucs so we had a team dinner.  We ate outside.  It was just a really nice time.  The kids all were able to run around and play and the adults were able to talk.  The weather was beautiful.  It was a really nice time.

Evan wanted to get dessert afterwards so we stopped at TCBY.

Now we're home and Evan is in bed.  We're just waiting for the final results to be posted to find out our start time tomorrow.

Until next time...

Goodbye Rachel and Noah

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, Rachel and Noah left for San Diego.  They are going there for a Bar Mitzvah.  Rachel called in a breakfast order to Wholy Bagel and they stopped there on the way to the airport so they left a bit earlier than they normally would have.

Evan and I rode bikes to school.

Around lunch time I picked up a smoothie at Smoothie King and then stopped at a restaurant called NXNW that is sponsoring the Bucs.

I rode my bike to get Evan and then Evan and Jack rode home together while I rode with Jack's dad.

In the afternoon, we went to Academy to get new cleats for Evan and then went to Chipotle for dinner.

Then Evan and I drove over to the Oak Hill baseball fields to watch Jack play a baseball game.

Evan is getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

A Little Bit Colder

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We had a cold front come in overnight with some rain.  The temperatures cooled considerably.  It had dried up by the time we walked to school, but it was at least 10 degrees colder than yesterday and it was very windy.

I went into Aaron's for a bit and then to Hey Cupcake.

Rachel and I met at Wholy Bagel, since she and Noah won't be here this weekend.  We didn't get there until late and they were almost out of bagels, but we were still able to get stuff.  They actually were closing up while we were eating.

We walked to get the boys.

Rachel tutored in the afternoon out of the house and then came back and met Evan's teammate Josh and his dad here and tutored Josh.

We had leftovers for dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

Windows and Gutters

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Our morning was the same as the other two mornings this week.

I worked from home in the morning but left to go to a couple meetings.

Yesterday we got a call from someone who had cleaned our gutters back in 2012.  They were offering a special on window washing.  I asked them about gutter cleaning and power washing as well.  We ended up working out a deal for everything.  They came out around lunch time.

I was not able to go pick the boys up so just Rachel walked without Lizzy or me.

Rachel took Noah to tennis this afternoon.

The window/gutter guys didn't finish until nearly 6pm.  They did a great job.  Everything looks good.

We had orange chicken for dinner.

Rachel is reading with Noah now.

Until next time...

Baseball and Tutoring

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We had our normal morning with a walk to school and Lizzy seeing her golden retriever puppy friend.

Rachel and I were home today.

In the afternoon, we walked to get the boys.  The boys didn't want to wait for us to walk home so Evan rode his bike and Noah ran with him.

Rachel went to tutor Audrey shortly after we got home.  Evan and I left for baseball and Rachel picked Noah up to take him to another tutoring job.

Evan's practice went well.  It's nice that it's nice out again.  We were able to take infield practice for the first time in a month.

Rachel and Noah stopped at HEB on the way home.

We had corned beef for dinner.

Noah is reading with Rachel and then the boys will get ready for bed.

Until next time...

Back In the Swing

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

It was a really nice morning on our walk to school.  Evan rode his scooter.  Noah just walked with us.  Lizzy came along as well.  Lizzy was excited when she got to see her golden retriever puppy friend.  She even seemed sad as we left the puppy.

I had a meeting at Aaron's later in the morning.

In the afternoon, Rachel drove us to school to pick the boys up.  She had to leave from there to go tutoring.  I walked home from there with the boys.  Well actually, Evan rode his scooter as fast as he could and Noah chased after him.  By the time I got in the house they were relaxing.

They did their homework and then played with Brody outside.  When Brody had to go to dinner, Evan asked that I take he and Noah back to school to play on the playground.  We drove over there and the playground was full with kids in the after-school program.  No more than 5 minutes after we got there, Noah came up to me and he didn't know where Evan was.  I didn't know either.  I was looking around and all of a sudden I saw Evan in a dead sprint racing some kid that I didn't know.  Evan won.  He walked over to me and I asked who that was.  He didn't know.  He said he was a 4th grader though.  I asked him how he ended up racing him.  He said he saw the kid beating another kid in the race so he challenged the kid.  Some time passed and then Noah again came over to me to tell me he didn't know where Evan was.  Again, I looked around for him.  It turns out he was play gaga ball.  A short while later, he came out and looked at me with a smirk and said "Another win".  They played for a while and then we went home.

Shortly after we got home, Rachel came home so we got dinner together.  The boys had pasta.

They are about to get ready for bed.

Until next time...

Last Day of Spring Break

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today is the last day of spring break.  The boys will be back in school tomorrow and I'll be back to work.  I tried to sleep in a bit because of that.  The boys were still up their normal time.

When the boys were eating lunch, Connor knocked on the door and wanted to play.  Evan and Noah went out and played with Connor and Christian after they finished lunch.

Rachel took Noah to go to his friend Owen's house later in the afternoon.  When Noah came in, Evan came in with Connor and Christian.

Evan had baseball practice today.  It was a really nice day out and the practice went really well.  Evan worked on adding some velocity to his pitching.  He's very, very accurate but the coach worked with him on really getting his arm all the way around and really pushing off.  I was catching and one of the pitches was really hard.  It hurt my hand.  He really did add velocity.

We stopped at Chipotle and picked up food for us on the way home.  We were able to eat it out on the porch.

The boys are now showering and will be going to bed soon.

Until next time...

Nothing

Today we mostly just took it easy.

Morry took Zayde to the airport around 11am.  The rest of the day was mostly spent at home.

Morry and the boys watched a Harry Potter movie.

We ate dinner at home and then went for a walk.

The boys are playing downstairs and soon we'll get them ready for bed.

Back from Florida

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The boys, Zayde and I are back from Florida.  We got back last night.  We had a very good time.  We were able to see three baseball games, we went ice skating, we went to the movies to see McFarland, USA, we went to Mixon's Farm and took a tour, we went miniature golfing and we went to Pirate City.   It was a full trip.

The Pirates won two of the three games we saw.  The last game we saw was a night game and it was the largest crowd in McKechnie Field history.  It was really nice.  They just recently put in lights at the field so it was the first time we saw the Pirates play at night there.

At the fields, they had a speed pitch area.  Evan and Noah did it before each game.  Each time Evan did very well.  The third time Evan did it, he was throwing as fast as the adults in front of him.  Not only that but of the three pitches he threw, 2 were perfect strikes.  That won us a t-shirt.  Then Noah came up and his first pitch was a perfect strike and that won us a second t-shirt.

Today is Noah's birthday.  He turns 7 today.  He chose to go to Top Golf.  He recorded his personal best.  Evan was on fire and crushed all of us.  I came in last.

After Top Golf, we went to Rita's Water Ice for free water ice for the first day of spring.

We came home and relaxed.  Noah put together the Lego set that Zayde got for him.

For dinner we went to Logan's.  Noah got steak.  Then we went to TCBY for dessert.  All Noah's choice.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

Zayde is Here

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We had another nice morning, so again, we were able to walk to school.  And again, Lizzy saw her golden retriever puppy friend.  The puppy was pulling so hard to get to Lizzy when he saw her.  He was breathing hard from choking himself on the collar.  He is really cute.

Rachel did some cleaning in the morning.  She tried to give Lizzy a haircut but the shaver died.

In the afternoon, we walked to pick the Evan up.  Noah had his last Mad Science.  Evan rode his scooter home.

We all drove to pick Zayde up from the airport.  He is flying in so we can all fly together to Bradenton for Spring Training.  There was quite a bit of traffic on the way to the airport so Zayde had gotten his bags when we pulled up.  I drove up to the terminal and Rachel, Evan and Noah went in to help with the bags.  I drove around one time while they did that.

For dinner, we stopped at Pho Thai Son.   We brought it home and ate out on the porch since it was really nice this evening.

After dinner, Evan played with kids in the neighborhood some.

The boys are about to go upstairs to bed.

Until next time...

Happy Lizzy

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Again it was nice enough for us to walk to school.  This morning, Lizzy was ready to go.  She was excited to walk.  She got to see her golden retriever puppy friend although the puppy is looking less and less like a puppy.

Rachel had a meeting in the morning.  She left soon after we got back.  On the way home from her meeting, she stopped at a running store and got new running shoes.

In the afternoon, we again, walked to get the boys with Lizzy.  As we were walking up, the little sister of one of the girls who loves Lizzy was there with her mom about to cross the street to go pick up her older sister.  I let her "hold" the leash while we crossed the street (I held the end of the leash).  She was very excited that she got to walk Lizzy.  All these little girls came over to pet and hug Lizzy.  One little girl tried to put a dandelion in Lizzy's fur behind her ear.  It didn't really work.

In the afternoon, the boys did their homework and then Rachel took Noah to tennis.  Connor came by to ask if Evan would come out to play.  He did and then Noah joined them when he got home.  They all played until it was time for dinner.

I grilled steaks for us.

The boys are now in the rooms.

Until next time...

Book Fair

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning was finally nice enough to walk to school.  The time change seems to have messed with Lizzy.  When we were leaving she was still sleeping.  We had to wake her up to come with us.  It was pretty dark when we walked but it was still nice.

Later in the morning I ran out to Aaron's and Deborah came over to work with Lizzy a bit more.

In the afternoon, Rachel and I walked to pick the boys up from school.  We didn't bring Lizzy because the boys wanted to go to the book fair after school.  We let the boys each pick out $15 worth of books.  Noah got two books and Evan managed to get four books with that money.

Rachel tutored in the afternoon.  Evan went outside for a while and played with kids from the neighborhood.

I made pasta for dinner and I grilled bratwurst for Noah.  Noah really liked it.

Evan and Noah and now upstairs getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Very Rainy Morning

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

When we woke up this morning, it was raining hard.  So we had to drive to the front of the school.  To avoid getting in a big long line of people dropping their kids off, we left earlier than normal and then sat in the car until the doors were unlocked.

I had a meeting downtown with Aaron, so I left this morning and picked him up and then went downtown.  I got lucky and got a parking spot on the street close by.

I drove to get the kids.  Rachel didn't come with us because she had to tutor.  It was still raining so we had to pick the kids up at their classrooms.  But Evan was scheduled to go home with Wade so I waited around with him until Wade's mom came.

By the time Noah and I walked back to the car, the rain had stopped.

Noah and I picked Evan up from Wade's just before dinner.

I made fajitas on the grill.  Rachel had gotten seasoned meat.  It was pretty good.

Rachel just got home for tutoring and the boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

No Baseball Today

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

After all the results came in yesterday, the Bucs had the number one seed coming into today.  Our first game was scheduled for 11:30.  It rained overnight and they delayed the start of the games by an hour and a half.

At 10:30, Rachel took Noah over to his friend's house.  His friend, Jude, was having a birthday party today.  He chose a handful of friends to take to a place called Jumpoline.  Noah rode with Jude's family and the other kids that were coming.  After that Rachel went to HEB to get some things.

Evan and I went to Donut Taco Palace on the way to the tournament.  It was much later than normal.  I wasn't sure if they'd have any donuts.  They had a few so we each got one.  The guy working there recognized us from the day before.  He told Evan that if we won the tournament, he'd give Evan a free donut.

The parking lot was very muddy and it was drizzling but the games were going on.  Unfortunately, the game before our game was very delayed.  In fact, it started nearly an hour late.  We warmed the kids up and then tried to get them out of the rain.  The more time passed, the harder it began to rain.  Finally, the organization running the tournament called it.  Evan was disappointed we didn't get to play but he was he had fun with his buddies.

Noah stayed at Jude's house for a bit after the party.  Rachel finally picked him up around 2:30.

We didn't do too much in the later afternoon.  We wanted the kids to take it easy.  They both got up early because of the time change.

We had leftover pizza for dinner.

The boys are now in the rooms and ready for bed.

Until next time...

Two Games, Two Wins

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The Bucs had their first tournament of the season today.  It's a two-day tournament.  Today was the Pool Play round which sets up seeding for tomorrow.  Evan's first game was at 11am.  We left the house around 9:15 and stopped at Donut Taco Palace on the way and then had warmups.

The Bucs crushed the first team.  At one point the score was 14-1.  Evan played well.  In the first game, he was 1-2 with a walk and two runs scored.  He also had a really nice steal where he got an amazing jump.  He did have a collision with Darius on a ball when he was playing left field.  Evan was coming in for the pop up and Darius, who was playing shortstop, was going out.  At the last second, Evan saw Darius and slid and Darius went over top of Evan and kicked Evan in the face.  Evan has a pretty swollen lip now but he was ok and it didn't slow him down at all.

Evan caught in the second game.  Again, he did well batting.  He was 1-1 with a single and a walk.  The game was a bit closer but the Bucs won again.  The coach singled out Evan for his hustle and heads up play in both games.

Evan and I came home and found that Rachel and Noah were at Costco.  Rachel called and said they had bumped into Aaron and Mandy and invited them over to the house.  Jeremy was very excited to play with "tiny Legos" which are really normal Legos, but he's used to Duplos.  The boys had fun with Jeremy and Nathan.

For dinner, we picked up Yaghi's for Evan and me.  Noah had a hot dog and Rachel had a salad.

The boys are going upstairs to bed shortly.

Until next time...

The Ice That Wasn't

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Last night, the weather forecasters were predicting doom.  They predicted ice 1/4 to 1/2 inches thick on the road ways and really cold temperatures over night.  Now it did rain and was really windy last night.  We even heard some thunder.  But when we woke up, there was no ice.  In fact, it was bright sun. Not a cloud in the sky.  The sun hasn't been out for two weeks but the day that school is cancelled it was really bright.

Rachel and I slept in a bit.  The boys were in great moods when I came downstairs to start working.  I put a movie on for them.

Later in the morning, Evan went outside and rode his bike around for a while and then went roller skating.

We all went to Wholy Bagel for lunch.  I have a meeting again tomorrow and so we planned on going today.  The boys were excited to come with us.

When we got home, Evan and Noah each ran on the treadmill.  I think Evan ran most of the time.  Rachel worked out of the dining room so she could watch them and make sure they were ok.  I heard Evan in an all-out sprint on there for a while.

Evan apparently didn't get enough running so he was pushing Rachel to go for a run.  She said they could walk Lizzy. When they were out walking Lizzy, they saw Jack, so Evan and Noah played at Jack's for a while.  They all came and played her for a while.  Then they went back out to play later in the afternoon.

Josh, from Evan's baseball team, came for tutoring in the afternoon.

We had orange chicken that we had gotten at Costco for dinner.

The boys are doing homework now and then are going to bed.

Until next time...

Carpet Cleaning

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

It was raining this morning but in the 60s when we got up.  We drove the boys to school.  I think Lizzy is getting upset that we haven't really been able to walk with her all week.

I worked from home in the morning and had a meeting.  Then I went into Aaron's new office.  He moved to a building behind the house they are renting.

I came home before Rachel left to get the boys.  Rachel had scheduled a carpet cleaning and the window they gave was between 12-3.  When I got home close to 2, they hadn't come.  We called them and they said that it would be between 3 and 4 so I stayed home while Rachel got the boys.  At 4pm they called and said that it would between 5 and 6.

Between 4 and 5, a big cold front came in.  By 7pm, it had already dropped 30 degrees.  They are predicting bad ice and freezing rain overnight so all the school districts have already canceled school for tomorrow.  The boys are very excited.

The carpet cleaners did not come until after 6pm.  It took them until nearly 8 to finish the carpets and they also cleaned the tile in the kitchen.

After dinner, the boys watched the Simpsons.  They watched the first episode of "Who Shot Mr. Burns?"  When I saw them watching it, I told them to tell me who they thought shot Mr. Burns after they finished the episode.  All of their guesses were wrong.  So I told them to go and watch the second episode that revealed the shooter.  They were very surprised and thought it was funny.

The boys are now upstairs in their rooms for bed.

Until next time...

Warmer

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The gray skies continue but today was much warmer.  The highs were close to 60.  We still drove the kids this morning as it was still drizzling a bit though the rain stopped in the morning some time.

Both Rachel and I were home again all day today.  We didn't run any errands or anything.

In the afternoon, we debated about whether to walk or drive.  We were just concerned that it might start raining at any moment so we drove.  Both boys were in good moods when we got them.

Evan had baseball practice in the afternoon.  We weren't sure if that would be canceled or not but we found out after picking the boys up that the practice was still on.  Because of that Noah went with Rachel when Rachel tutored Audrey.

Evan and I went to baseball practice.  Evan had a pretty solid practice.  He's been hitting the ball harder since his lesson.  He also was catcher again for a while.  We were working with him on dropping to his knees and sliding left or right on pitches in the dirt.

When we came home, Rachel immediately left to go tutor.

Evan is now finishing his homework and Noah is reading.

Until next time...

Gray Day

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The bad weather continued here.  It was cold and just wet out.  It never really rained, just misted all day long.  We drove to school to drop the boys off in the morning.

Rachel and I stayed home all day.

When I went to pick the boys up, Rachel left to tutor.  I drove to get them.  Right before I left, Wade's mom texted Rachel to see if Evan could come over and play after school.  So when Evan and Noah came out, I walked Evan over to where Wade's mom was waiting and he went home with them.

Just before dinner, Noah and I picked Evan up.  It looked like he had a good time.  They actually were outside, though when we got home, Evan wanted to change his clothes because he said he was all wet.

For dinner, Evan had pasta and I grilled a hamburger for Noah.  Rachel and I will have hamburgers when she gets home for tutoring.  The boys watched the end of Pink Panther 2 and they started Billy Madison.

Evan is finishing his homework now and Noah has gone upstairs to his room.

Until next time...

Busy Sunday

Yesterday we had a busy day.  Deborah came over, had lunch with us,  did some work on Lizzy, and then Morry helped her with some of her website stuff.

At night, we went to the Texas Stars minor league hockey game.

This morning Morry had a meeting.

When we got home Noah and I left to go to the Purim carnival at the JCC.

While we were gone Evan went to a birthday party and then Morry took him to baseball practice.

After the Purim carnival Noah went over to his friend Jude's house for a little bit.

I got the lunches ready for the week.

Noah got home around 5:30 and then I started getting dinner ready.

Morry and Evan got home around 6:30 and we ate dinner.

The boys had showers, FaceTimed with Grandma, Papa, and Maya, and are now getting ready for bed.
