More Evan Issues

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

At the boys' birthday party, Evan was eating Laffy Taffy and he said his filling came out.   We got an appointment for Evan today at 8am.  Rachel drove Evan to the dentist and I walked Noah to school.

At the dentist, they discovered that Evan's filling was in tact.  It's just he had another cavity.  They said that Evan's teeth are very susceptible to cavities.  We can't figure it out because really, Evan doesn't eat that much candy and most days he doesn't drink any juice.  He just has water.   He drinks water for all three meals during the week.  They said for people like Evan, any kind of carbohydrates, even bread, could cause problems.  But that wasn't all.  Apparently, one of Evan's adult molars was trying to come in but his baby molar wasn't coming out.  This apparently caused an infection.  So Evan had to get a cavity filled and his baby molar pulled.  He wasn't done until about 10:30am.  He was pretty uncomfortable.

I met Rachel and Evan at Wholy Bagel.  Neither Rachel nor I can go tomorrow so we decided to do it today.  We wanted to let Evan get a little better.  He just had a drink there.

Afterwards, both Rachel and I wanted Evan to go back to school.  After all, he missed Monday.  But he threw a gigantic fit.  I guess it turned out that he really wasn't feeling well because he came home and went right to sleep.

We left Evan home alone for a bit while we walked to get Noah.

In the afternoon, Rachel baked cookies for the boys' teachers for Teacher's Appreciation Week.

Evan was feeling better later in the afternoon and we went out and threw the football around.

For dinner, we made orange chicken.

The boys are about to go to bed.  Until next time...

Symptom Free

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan was symptom-free this morning. Actually, he was symptom free for most of yesterday.

We walked to school in the morning.  It was pretty cold on the walk to school.

I met the father of a boy on Evan's team for lunch.

In the afternoon, I had to drive up to a company that I'm going to be doing some contract work for to get VPN access.  So I was not able to get the boys from school.  Just Rachel went.  It also meant Lizzy was stuck at home.

Rachel left at 5pm to go to tutoring.  She stopped at HEB on her way home.

For dinner, we had chicken that Rachel made in the crock pot.

The boys are now sleeping.

Until next time...

He's Doing Better

This morning Evan still wasn't quite back to normal, but we thought he should try going back to school.  We walked.  He did fine.

After dropping the kids off, I met Owen's mom and we walked to Starbucks.

Evan made it through the whole day at school.

He said he felt fine when we picked him up.  He was mad at us for not allowing him to run home.

I tutored this afternoon and Blanca came over to babysit.

Morry went to the baseball practice, but Evan and Noah stayed here.

The boys are eating their dinner now.  Morry is still at the baseball practice helping out.

When he gets home we'll eat our dinner.

Evan's Head

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan had a one-day tournament yesterday.  He didn't play until close to 5:30 and then right after that.  We didn't finish up until after 8pm.  But the big issue came around lunch time.  We told the boys they needed to clean up their rooms.  At that point, Evan walked towards his room.  I don't know exactly what happened but Evan walked head first into the wall.  The part he hit on the wall was basically a corner, where there is metal in the sheet rock to join two walls together.  I honestly don't know how long after he hit, I came around the corner and saw him on the floor.  I asked him what happened and that is when he started to cry and said he walked into the wall.  At first I was annoyed that he was messing around, but I looked at his head and it was already quite swollen and had a gash.  We got him ice and I gave him Advil and he sat on the couch.  Rachel looked at his eyes and I asked him lots of questions, all of which he got correct.

We still went to the tournament, but quickly in the first game, it was obvious that Evan was not feeling up to it.  He was moving very slow and he made many mental errors.  I don't know if he could concentrate that well.  He eventually told me he felt nauseous.

This morning, when I got him up he said his head hurt and he continued to feel nauseous.  So, begrudgingly, Rachel and I decided not to send him to school.  We just didn't know if he was exaggerating in an attempt to not go to school.  Rachel and I walked Noah to school and left Evan home alone with Lizzy.   A bit later, Evan fell asleep which was unusual.  So we decided to call the doctor.  They were able to fit him in so Rachel took him in.

The doctor did a number of physical and mental tests on Evan.  She told Rachel that she wasn't able to put down that it was a concussion but that she wanted Rachel to treat the symptoms like it was.  She didn't want Evan to go back to school today.  She said that he has to refrain from any physical activity until his symptoms go away.  He can't go to recess, he can't play baseball.  He can walk to school as long as we take it easy.  He is not allowed to play on the iPad or anything with a screen.  When he does go back to school, if he feels dizzy at all, he should tell the teacher and they should send him home to rest.

I picked up a smoothie for Evan at Smoothie King.  He ate it pretty well.  He hasn't seemed like he lost his appetite.  Just that he feels dizzy and nauseous.  Throughout the afternoon though, at times he'd seem like he was back to his old self.  When Noah came home from school, he was starting to get wild with Noah and I would have to put a stop to it.  Every so often he would tell me he felt dizzy but it seemed to be farther apart than earlier.  His mood definitely picked up.

Before Rachel left to tutor, Deborah came over and worked with Lizzy.  She put Lizzy on the treadmill to get some incline and slow walk work.

The boys and I played Monopoly together.  They both seemed to really understand the game and they told me how much change they'd need as they paid for stuff.  Evan did well mentally with it.  We stopped and had dinner.  I put the boys to bed just as Rachel got home from tutoring.

The boys are now in their bed and just about asleep.

Until next time...

No Baseball Today

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Around 5 or 6 this morning, I woke up and heard a thunderstorm.  I thought to myself, I thought the weather predicted a 0% chance of rain today and then went back to sleep.  When I woke up I checked my email to discover that the first day of the baseball tournament was cancelled.  It was sunny but I guess the rains had rendered the fields unplayable.  Particularly in the morning.  We will have a one-day only tournament tomorrow provided the rain holds off.

When Rachel and I finally got out of bed, we decided to take the boys and Lizzy to walk around the trail in the Costco shopping center.  At the end we stopped at Smoothie King and got smoothies for all of us.

We had lunch when we got home.

Later in the afternoon, I took the boys to Target to use the gift certificates they got for their birthday party.

For dinner, we wanted to try a new Thai food trailer.  We stopped at Subway and got the boys subs and then went to the food trailer park.  They said it would be 45 minutes to get our food.  We decided to wait and the boys ate their subs at the picnic table.  Evan ate a foot-long sub.

We got the food to go and are about to eat it.  The boys are eating their dessert and are about to head up to bed.

Until next time...

Extra School

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We woke up to thunder and lightning this morning.  It was pretty obvious we were not going to walk to school.  We drove early and parked out front and walked the boys in.

At lunch time we went to Wholy Bagel.  They had too many whole wheat and blueberry bagels so they gave us a bag of bagels for free.

By the time the kids got out of school, it had dried out so we could walk to school.  Noah stayed at school.  As part of a fundraiser for school, Noah's teacher offered an extra two hours to stay at school where they were able to do some fun things in exchange for a donation towards the school.  Noah chose to stay, so only Evan walked home with us.

At 5 we picked up Noah and drove to Bicycle Sport Shop to talk to them about bikes for the boys and what sizes they needed and stuff.  Evan took a test drive around the parking lot.

Then we went to Home Slice to pick up pizza to bring home.  There was a 45 minute wait for pick up so we sat outside and the boys played ping pong waiting for the pizza.

When we got home, we ate.  Evan had a ton of pizza.  He really loves Home Slice.

The boys are about to get ready for bed.

Until next time...

Hot and Humid

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

It was very foggy and misty this morning so we drove to the school for the first time in a long time.

Later in the morning, Rachel and I went to Luke's Locker.  They were having a thing for Earth Day.  If you brought in a pair of shoes, you got $20 store credit.  I needed new sneakers so Rachel and I brought each brought in a pair of shoes and got $40 in store credit.  They fitted me for new shoes and I went to pay.  That's when we discovered the scam.  You could not use both store credits at the same time.  That one I could kind of understand.  But the bigger one was that you could not use the credit on sale items.  Well apparently the shoes I chose were marked down by one dollar therefore they were on sale.  I highly suspect that most of the items were on sale by $1 rendering the store credit moot on this trip.

We walked to get the boys.  By the time the fog and mist had left but the weather was incredibly bad.  It was 82 degrees and incredible humidity.  It just felt gross walking.

When we got home, Deborah came over to work with Lizzy for a while and I helped her a bit.

After Deborah left, Josh and his dad came over.  Josh's dad worked with Evan and Josh on some hitting drills.  I think it really helped Evan.

Rachel went to HEB during this.

We just made little stuff for dinner.

The boys are about to get ready for bed.

Until next time...

Goodbye Grandma and Papa

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, Grandma walked with us to take the boys to school.  As we were walking away from the school, Crystal came up.  In fact, Lizzy saw her before we did and just stopped and wouldn't walk away until she said hello to Crystal.  Then she saw her golden retriever puppy friend.

Rachel, Grandma and Lizzy went to the Circle C Park for a walk.  Lizzy got to swim in the creek.

I went into Aaron's for a meeting.

Papa got to the house to get Grandma around lunchtime.  Rachel, Grandma and Papa went to lunch and they left from the restaurant to go home.

It looked like it was going to rain but we walked to get the boys.  It sprinkled on us while we walked but not enough to get us wet.

Noah had tennis in the afternoon.

Rachel went to tutor.  I played football outside with Evan, Brody and Brody's sister Drew.  Then when they went home for dinner, Noah came out and he rode around on his bike for a long time.  He did well. I only helped him get on and get started and then he'd ride around the cul-de-sac until he fell.  I didn't follow him or hold him up or anything.  We need to teach him how to start and stop by himself but he's really getting there.

We had left overs for dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Noah Rides a Bike!

This morning we walked the boys to school.

After that Grandma/Lynn and I went for a walk.  Later we met Aunt Sandy for lunch at Kerbey Lane.

We walked to get the boys from school.

Evan had the first day of STAAR testing (statewide tests).  He said it was not as bad as he thought it would be.

I went to tutor and Morry and Evan went to baseball practice.

While we were gone Grandma made dinner and Papa worked with Noah on the bike.   Noah made a lot of progress today and was able to ride on his own a little bit.

Here is a picture and video.

We ate dinner and soon the boys will get ready for bed.

This morning Grandma and Papa came with us to walk the boys to school.  The boys were both in good moods.

Papa left to go to a conference and I went into Aaron's.  Grandma went to HEB to get some food.

Aaron and I were working on getting an app ready so I ended up being there late.  Rachel and Grandma picked the boys up from school.

Grandma made dinner for all of us.  We ate when Rachel got home for tutoring.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

The Big Party

Today we had the boy's birthday party.  We spent most of the morning getting ready for it.  The party was from 2-4pm.  We had about 40 kids there.  There was a game truck and laser tag.  Everyone seemed to have a great time.

For dinner we went to Pho Thai Son and got TCBY for dessert.

Here are some pictures from today.

Upshaws

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning Grandma and Papa walked with us to take the boys to school.  Lizzy got to see both Crystal and her golden retriever puppy friend.

I went to Aaron's after we got home.  Grandma and Papa went out with a realtor to look at houses.

Rachel, Grandma and Papa went to Wholy Bagel but I couldn't join them.

For dinner, Aunt Susan came over and brought Pollo Rico.  Aaron, Mandy, Jeremy and Nathan came over as well.  Evan, Noah and Jeremy were running around upstairs at one point.  When they came downstairs all of them had bright red faces and were sweating.   It was a nice time.

The boys are going to bed now.  We've got a big day tomorrow with the boys' birthday party.

Until next time...

Houston Trip

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I drove to Houston today to see a doctor for Rachel down at MD Anderson for a study.  We got up at 5am and left the house at 5:30.

The weirdest thing though was that when I woke up at 5, I went downstairs.  The lights were on downstairs and Evan's door was open to his room.  When I got downstairs, I noticed that on the coffee table was a cereal bowl, a fruit strip wrapper and an empty cup.  On the counter was an empty lemonade bottle.  I told Rachel that I thought Evan had been downstairs but he was sleeping at that time.

The drive to Houston was fine.  We didn't hit much traffic.  We stopped at a place called Baby Barnaby's for breakfast.  It was pretty good.  The appointment went well.  We were actually seen early.  We left Houston around noon and got home at 3pm.

Grandma and Papa walked with Evan, Noah and Lizzy to school.  Evan held Lizzy's leash.  They did not take Lizzy when walked to pick the boys up.

They got home just after we got home.  I asked Evan what was up with that stuff.  He said he woke up at 3:15am.  He thought it said 6:15am so he decided he'd get dressed and get himself breakfast.  He kept waiting for Noah and me to come down.  After a while he looked at the clock and realized it was before 4am so he went back up and went to sleep.

For dinner we went to Uncle Marvin and Aunt Sandy's.  We had a nice time.

The boys are upstairs getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Grandma and Papa

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We walked to school this morning as normal.  Lizzy got to see her golden retriever puppy friend.  It turns out that Evan's friend from his class is the dog's owner.

Rachel ran to HEB in the morning to get some things and order the cakes for the birthday party this weekend.

Later in the morning, we used two Groupons for mobile car washes.  The guys did a good job cleaning both of our cars.  My car was particularly dirty after the rain and mud at the baseball fields this past weekend.

We walked to get Noah.  Evan went home with his friend Wade.

Rachel took Noah to tennis and then went to tutor.  Noah went out to play with the neighborhood kids.

Shortly after Noah got home, Grandma and Papa came.  Right after they arrive, Evan got back from Wade's house.  Noah then came inside and everyone went out in the backyard.

I grilled ribs for dinner.

The boys are in bed now.

Until next time...

Busy Afternoon

We walked the boys to school.  Evan wanted to walk Lizzy on his own and he did a good job.  Lizzy seemed happy.

For lunch, I met the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls at Whole Foods.

After that I got the car inspected.

We walked to pick up the boys from school.

I tutored Audrey after school.

Morry and Evan went to baseball practice.

After tutoring Audrey, Noah came with me to tutoring at another house.

Noah and I got home around 7:15 and Morry and Evan just got home now (8:20pm).

Time to eat some dinner.

Weekend of Fun Run and Baseball

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This weekend was a very busy weekend.  Evan and Noah went to a birthday party, then Noah immediately went with Rachel to the Clayton Elementary Fun Run.  Evan and I were home for a bit before we went to Seguin for a baseball tournament.  He had games at 6:30 and 8:15.  The Bucs lost the first game but won the second.  Evan broke out of his hitting slump in the second game with three hits and 5 RBIs.  He also got hit by a pitch but didn't even realize it until the umpire told him to take first base.  We didn't get home until 11:30 at night.

On Sunday, Evan and I left at 8am for a 10:15 game.  We stopped at Donut Taco Palace.  The Bucs lost a heartbreaker in the bottom of the 5th.  There was a steady rain through most of the game.  Evan got incredibly muddy.  The mud went through his pants, through his sliding shorts and onto his boxers.

The boys cleaned up when we got home.  For dinner, I met some friends from an old job.  One of them is moving to San Francisco.

This morning, we walked the boys to school.  Then Rachel took Lizzy on a very slow walk which is what Deborah recommended to help with her spine and hips.

I went to Aaron's for a little while and stopped at Smoothie King on the way home.

Lizzy seemed tired after her two long walks this morning so we left her at home and picked the boys up without her.

Rachel tutored in the evening and I fed the boys.

The boys are asleep now.

Until next time...

Rain and Haircuts

This morning it was drizzling a little as we walked to school.  During the day we got some rain, so the boys didn't have outdoor recess.

Morry and I went to Wholy Bagel for lunch.

We walked to pick up the boys from school.

This afternoon the boys played with some of the neighbors outside.

Tonight, we got the boys haircuts at Sport Clips and then ate dinner at Craigo's.

We just got home and soon the boys will get ready for bed.

Noah Back at School

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I fully expected Noah to miss another day this morning.  When he went to bed he still had a fever and wasn't showing any signs of getting better.  I woke him up this morning and took his temperature and just as fast as his fever had come on, it was gone.  I asked him how he felt and if he wanted to go to school and he said he wanted to go to school.

I went into Aaron's for a bit today.  On the way home, I stopped at Smoothie King.

We walked to get the kids from school.  Evan ran up ahead.  He wanted to run all the way home.  He ran all the way to school this morning.  As we got to one corner, Evan came running back towards us with his eyes open big.  He said he saw a snake.  I went up an investigated and it was gone.  Our neighbor was behind us and he poked a stick into the plants that Evan said the snake came out of but it must have slithered off.  Probably it was as scared of Evan as Evan was of it.  I do not think it was any kind of poisonous snake or anything.

Deborah came over for after we got home.  She worked with Lizzy for a while and then I helped her with her site.

After that Josh and his dad came over and Rachel tutored Josh.

We had leftovers from last night for dinner.

Rachel is reading with Noah now and then he will go up to bed.

Until next time...

No School for Noah

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Last night before bed,  Noah took his own temperature and told us he had a fever.  I checked it before I put him to bed and sure enough, he had a fever.  I gave him some ibuprofen and it seemed to help but the fever was back when he got up this morning so Noah stayed home from school.

Rachel and Evan rode bikes to school.  Then Rachel walked to Ms. Wenske's classroom and asked for the school work for Noah.  She told Rachel that she'd send the work to Evan's class for him to bring home.

I met Rachel's cousin, Jacob, for lunch at Enchiladas y Mas.  It was good.  It had been a while since I was there.

Noah seemed to look worse in the afternoon.  Rachel offered to take him to Starbucks or something like that where he could get a cold drink but he didn't want anything.

I rode the bike to get Evan.

Noah managed to do some school work but then fell asleep in bed until dinner time.  He didn't eat dinner with us.  Rachel made a Filipino chicken recipe for the crock pot that she had found on the internet.

We're about to put the boys to bed, though Noah is sleeping on the couch at the moment.

Until next time...

Baseball Practice

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We had a very normal morning this morning.  We walked to school.  Lizzy got to see both her golden retriever puppy friend and Crystal.  She was a very happy pooch.

Rachel ran out to Best Buy in the morning to get an SD card for Evan's new camera.

I had a meeting around lunch.

We walked to get the boys in the afternoon.

Rachel tutored Audrey after we got home.  Evan and I then left to go to baseball practice.  Evan had a good practice.  Actually it was a good practice all around.  The Bucs defense was playing at a very high level today.  If we can get the bats going, we'll be good for this weekend's tournament.

When Evan and I got home, Rachel left to go to more tutoring.

The boys are in bed now and Rachel is on her way home.

Until next time...

Bye Grandmom

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Early this morning, I drove Grandmom to the airport after her visit with us.  I was able to get back in time to get the boys ready to go to school.  We walked to school this morning with Lizzy.  I think she was glad to get out of the house.

While I was working, Rachel went to Donut Taco Palace to get donuts.  We were celebrating Evan's birthday at school and he asked us to get donuts for his class.

Around 11:30 we left for school.  Just as we signed in, Evan's class came downstairs to go to the cafeteria.  We walked with the class into the lunch room and ate with Evan.  At the end of the lunch we handed out the donuts to all the kids.  Evan seemed very glad to have us there.

I had to run to Aaron's in the afternoon.  Rachel walked to get the boys.

When I came home, Rachel left to tutor.

We had leftover Rudy's for dinner.  The boys are now watching Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure.  I'm about to read with Noah and put the boys to bed.

Until next time...

Big Weekend and Evan's Birthday

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

On Thursday night, Grandmom flew in.  Friday the boys didn't have school.  Noah had a playdate.  Before that, we went to Wholy Bagel.  For dinner, we met Matt, Rachael, Max, Tristian, and Maddie at Phil's Ice House.  It was a nice time.

Yesterday the Bucs had a one-day tournament.  Evan and I left the house at 7am and stopped at the bank and then went to Donut Taco Palace.  We got to the fields at 8.  The first game was at night.  In the first game, after one inning we were winning 3-2.  We broke it open in the bottom of the second with 4 runs.  Evan came in to pitch the third inning.  He walked the first batter he faced, then struck the next two batters out and got a weak grounder to end the inning.  He got the first batter out in the fourth, walked the second batter and then got the next two out to end the inning.  The Bucs ended up winning the game.

We had a bit of a break and played the second game.  This one wasn't as close.  The Bucs took this one easily.  Evan walked several times and stole several bases.  He played catcher for most of the game.  He did well.  By going 2-0 in a one-day tournament, the Bucs were assured of a spot in the championship.

We had a bit of a break and played the championship.  After the first inning, we were winning 3-0.  In the top of the second, we broke it open with 20 runs.  That's right, 2-0.  After we had batted around, we stopped having the kids steal.  We never took more than one base on any hit, even if the ball rolled to the wall.  The other team just got down and they started making really bad mistakes.  It was tough.  We tried to be good winners.  After the game, the boys from the other team were smiling and the Bucs got gold championship rings.  The boys were really happy.  Evan asked to play another game.  We didn't get home until 7:05 pm, twelve hours from when we left the house.

Today was Evan's Birthday.  He wanted to go to Top Golf, so we went there for brunch.  Evan was even better than when we went on Noah's Birthday.  He scored a 106, increasing his score by nearly 33%.  From there we went to Rita's because we had a free Rita's water ice coupon for Evan. Evan really wanted to go there.

We stayed home in the afternoon, though Noah went to a friend's for a easter egg hunt.  Then we went to Rudy's for dinner.  Evan enjoyed the brisket.  He wanted to go to TCBY for dessert.

The boys are in their beds now.

Until next time...

Tennis

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

On the walk to school this morning, Lizzy got to see her golden retriever puppy friend and her black lab friend,  Crystal.  She and Crystal really get along.  As Lizzy saw Crystal walking towards us, she got so excited.

We had a cleaning service come.  They were supposed to come in the afternoon, but they actually came early.  It was a pleasant surprise.  They do a very good job.

I had back-to-back meetings in the afternoon so I couldn't go to pick the boys up.  Rachel went by herself.

Rachel took Noah and Evan to Noah's tennis class.  After that she stopped and took some pictures of the boys in the blue bonnets.  Then she dropped the boys off at a nearby coffee shop where I was and then went to tutoring.  I took them home.

We had leftover chicken for dinner.

The boys are about to go up to bed.

Until next time...
