Noah Grows Up

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The boys took a long time to go to bed last night. I kept hearing Noah come out of his room and go into Evan's room. I told them I was coming up one of the times and they were in trouble. I turned to walk into Evan's room and I could see Evan hiding under the covers and I heard him whisper to Noah "Quick, Noah, hide!" Noah was standing next to the bed and quickly put both hands in front of his face.

Because they went to bed late last night, they slept in fairly well this morning. Evan got up closer to 9 and Noah slept until 10.

Today was swim class day so we took the boys to the gym for swim class. The first class was Noah. I'm proud to say he was tremendous today. He didn't cry or scream at all. Not only was he not crying or upset, he was laughing and he was excited to do everything. He did everything that the instructor asked. He's really improving. We got to the gym a bit early and let him play in the pool some so I'm not sure if that helped. It may have also helped that Evan stayed in the indoor pool so Noah could see him. Also, the fact that Noah did everything last week and nothing bad happened may have helped.

Evan also did well swimming. His instructor said he's really improving. She said he's very good at laying on his back and floating. She said that's an excellent tool if he finds himself in water that's too deep.

After swimming, we went home and had lunch. We had to eat quickly as we had a birthday party for Marissa in the early afternoon.

The party was at the Little Gym where Evan has his sports class. We got there a bit late and they were doing some organized activity on the big mat. Evan and Noah went and sat down. About a minute after sitting down, Evan decided that was boring and he knew how to use all the gymnastics equipment so he got up and ran around doing all that. He's gotten very good at it. But Noah stayed with the group and he was doing everything that the group was doing. I've never seen him do that. He was just so cute watching him do everything. He eventually got bored and played with Evan some. Later they had a free play and Noah was right in there with Evan and his friends. Normally if Evan's playing with older boys, Noah either plays by himself or stands with us. But this time, he was just one of the boys.

Just before cake they do this thing called "Smash the Cheese." The stand a mat up on it's end and the kids run into it and it falls down as everyone yells "Smash! The! Cheese!" We did that at Evan's sports class but Noah didn't get to do it. Evan did it for us. Noah thought it was so cool that we have to do it every night in bed. Noah will sit (mostly on Rachel) while she yells smash the cheese and falls over holding him. Noah was super excited that he was finally going to get to do this himself at the Little Gym. He was one of the last kids to get to do it, but he sat there very patiently. Evan had already gone. When Noah did it he had a huge smile on his face. Evan jumped up and ran over to him and gave him a high five for doing it. I almost wish we had a video of it.

We came home from there and the kids watched TV. For dinner, I ran out and picked up Tucci's Southside Subs for us. Rachel made the kids some funky color gray eggs and ham. Rachel gave each boy the food coloring to drip one drop in. Evan had red and Noah had blue. Evan dripped one drop in and Rachel couldn't get Noah to stop squeezing the food coloring.

Gabby came over tonight so we could go out and see a movie. The boys were excited to see her. We had no problems leaving. We went to see the new Adam Sandler movie, "Grown Ups". It got terrible reviews but I'm honestly not sure why. It was great. Rachel really enjoyed it as well. It may not have been the best movie I've ever seen but man there are some things the critics like but just suck. This was way better than some of those.

When we got home the boys were sleeping. Gabby said they did really well.

Until next time...

Noah’s first word

This morning we went to playgroup. It was a house real close to ours, but we drove since I had some things to do after and we had Evan’s bike with us. The house is in a cul-de-sac and the mom asked us to bring the kid’s bikes so they could ride around. The kids played both inside and outside. Inside, the mom put out some food. Evan didn’t eat much, but Noah had a great time sitting at the table eating the big kid food. Noah ate fruit, bread, and some cinnamon roll. Outside, Evan rode his bike for a while and then he played with one of the kid’s motorized car. It took him a little while to figure out the pedal, backwards, forwards, steering, … but by the end he was doing a lot better. Evan enjoyed driving Marissa around.

After playgroup we went to HEB. We were pretty hot since we had been playing outside and it was in the 80s. At HEB they have a little café with an Icee machine. I got Icees for Evan and me. Evan was very excited. He drank his while sitting in the cart with Noah. Evan and I shared our Icees with Noah. Somehow Noah got Icee all over the place, but he did seem to like it a lot.

At home, I fed Noah lunch, but Evan didn’t want to eat anything.

I put them down for naps. It took Evan a while to fall asleep.

When Morry got home the boys were starting to wake up from their naps. When I went to get Evan he didn’t look good and felt warm. I took his temperature and it was 101 degrees.

We went to dinner at a place called Mandola’s in the Triangle. The Triangle is an area of town where they have shops and restaurants with apartments on top. We had a nice time at dinner. It was pretty crowded since the weather was nice. I grabbed a table with Noah while Morry and Evan stood in line and ordered our food. We were able to sit outside. Noah ate very well, but Evan didn’t eat much. He must not have been feeling well. At dinner I took a picture of Evan, Noah, and Morry. I asked Evan to say “cheese” and it sounded like Noah was saying “cheese” too.

After we finished eating we went over to see the water fountain. I took out the camera to take a picture, and without me even saying anything, Noah started to say, “cheese!”. So, Noah’s first official word is “cheese.” Very fitting since he loves having his picture taken.

After dinner we went to Yogurt Planet, a neat frozen yogurt shop. They had many flavors of yogurt and toppings to choose from. You get your own yogurt and toppings and just pay by the pound. We had fun making our yogurts. Before we walked in the store Evan said he was hungry and he wanted yogurt. We made a fruity one for Evan but he didn’t eat much. He really wasn’t feeling well.

We just put Evan and Noah to bed. Evan still had a fever so we gave him some medicine. Hopefully he feels better tomorrow. Poor little guy.

Playgroup day

Today we went to playgroup. It’s been a while since we’ve gone. Playgroup was at Marissa’s house (in Evan’s class at school). Their house is pretty close so we walked. Well, I walked and the boys rode in the stroller. It was a nice time. Evan ate a ton of muffins. They had a plate of small muffins out and every time I turned around Evan was eating another one. Last time we were at Marissa’s house Evan played with one of her toy trains. He remembered and asked me where it was. I told him to ask Marissa and she said it was upstairs. Bodar, Marissa’s mom, must have heard and she offered to get it and bring it down for Evan. Both Evan and Noah enjoyed playing with the train. I put Noah down on the floor with the other kids and toys and he seemed to want to be near Evan and playing with whatever Evan was playing with.

After playgroup we went home and ate lunch. During lunch Evan said he wanted a Popsicle. After lunch we went in the backyard and I let Evan eat a Popsicle. He offered some to me and Noah. With the first few bites Noah took he made a really funny face. It must have been sour. It made Evan and I laugh and Evan wanted to give Noah more so he would make that face again.

Evan and Noah took good naps. Evan slept until about 6:30.

We went to dinner at Serranos. When we walked in the door there was a sign posted that said if you bought at $25 gift card you got an extra $5 for free. So, while we were waiting for our table I went up to the bar and bought a gift card for us to use at dinner. I wondered why more people didn’t do that. It was like getting a $5 coupon.

After dinner we went to Best Buy and then Target. At Best Buy we looked at washer/dryers. We are going to need new ones soon. Ours now are more than 10 years old. Both take forever to wash/dry. It looks like the best ones are LG and Samsung. Morry and I are trying to decide what to get each other for our Hanukkah present. It would be nice to get washer/dryers, but they are pretty expensive and not such a fun/exciting Hanukkah gift. I never thought I’d be asking for a washer/dryer for Hanukkah. We are trying to decide between that, a nice SLR camera, maybe a blue ray disc player? We’ll see.

Well, it’s late. It sounds like the boys are sleeping now. I hope they let us sleep in a little tomorrow morning.

Oh, one more thing. Evan got a kid's digital camera for Hanukkah from Marilyn. He loves it and really understands how to take pictures. He's doing well taking pictures on his own. Here are a few pictures Evan took all by himself.

School for Evan, HEB, ...

Noah has started reaching his hands up when he wants to be picked up. It’s cute. When you go over to pick him up from the exersaucer or swing he puts his arms up.

Today Evan had school. Evan’s teacher Wendy was not there today because she is sick and right away he asked where she was. He seemed disappointed that she wasn’t there to read the train book to him. He mentioned the train book again before we left the house today.

After I dropped him off Noah and I went to HEB to pick up a few things for playgroup tomorrow. It is our turn to host. We have a little playgroup for kids Evan’s age. We used to meet on Thursday mornings, but now that many of the kids in the group are going to pre-schools on different days we alternate days we meet. One week we’ll meet on a Friday, the next a Thursday. Usually whoever hosts puts out a few snacks for the kids and moms. I’m going to make blueberry muffins, cranberry apple crisp, and a fruit salad.

On our way into HEB we saw Bodar, Marissa’s mom. Marissa is in our playgroup as well as Evan’s class at school. Then inside, we saw Susan and Laurel. Laurel is also in the playgroup, but she goes to school MWF.

Oh, at HEB I was able to buy honeycrisp apples (Morry's favorite). We look forward to this time of year when the honeycrisps come back out. If you haven't had one, you should try it. It's tart and crunchy.

After HEB I went for walk(1mi)/run(1mi) with Noah and Lizzy. I had just enough time get home, shower, and feed Noah lunch. Then, it was time to pick up Evan. Right when I walked in, he came up to me and asked for a muffin. I asked the teacher what that was about, why he wanted a muffin. Natasha said Marissa sat by Evan at lunch and she had a muffin that he wanted. Ms. Aranza (the sub and Spanish teacher) told Evan he should ask his mom if he could have a muffin. So, of course, he remembered and asked me first thing. Anyway, I told Evan we would make muffins tomorrow for playgroup. I asked if Evan was good today and they said he’s always good and listens well. That was good to hear. On the way home in the car Evan asked me where I went today.
