Thanksgiving in January

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

After taking the boys to school, we went to Camp Gladiator.  I had to leave early to get home for a HomeAway call so we drove separately.

Later in the morning, someone came by the house to buy some of the boys' old clothes.  Then Rachel left to go to Pilates and I drove to HomeAway for more meetings.

Rachel picked the boys up from school.  I got home shortly after they got home.

Rachel was supposed to tutor but it got cancelled.  Noah was scheduled to go over to Grandma's since I was going to be with Evan at baseball and Rachel was tutoring.  He still went over there and had dinner.

He had asked Grandma for Thanksgiving type stuff for dinner.  So Grandma made a turkey breast and had cranberry sauce.

Evan had baseball practice.  We drove Braeden up there.  The boys were silly in the car.  They had a scrimmage at practice with the 12U team.  Evan is on the 11U team.  They separated the teams so there would be an even number of each of the age groups on each team.  Amazingly the 11-year-olds were the kids getting the hits off of the 12-year-old pitchers.  Evan had a good solid hit.

We're home now and the boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Pooch Caboose

This morning we walked to school, but did not have Camp Gladiator.  This week is "bold" week and there is a limited schedule.  It's to give us and the trainers I break, I guess.  We still plan to go Tuesday and Thursday.

We had the Pooch Caboose come out today to groom Lizzy.  Morry had seen the mobile dog grooming truck out and about and gave them a call.   She arrived around 9:40 and said it would take around an hour, maybe a little more.  After 2 hours Lizzy was finally done.  They gave her "the works".  Bath, nail trim, ear cleaning, and haircut.  They seemed to do a great job.  Lizzy was happy and had a cute little bandana to show off!

We walked to pick up the kids from school.  By this time, it was already in the upper 70s.   The weather app had not predicted it would be that hot today.

After getting home, Morry, Evan, and Noah left for Evan's baseball.  I went to tutoring.  Then, we all met back at home around 5:30.

We had hamburgers for dinner.

Soon, the boys will get ready for bed.

Here are some pictures of Lizzy.

Noah's Big Run

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We had nothing scheduled this morning.  There was no baseball, no football, no half-marathons.  Rachel and I slept in some.  I don't know what time the boys got up.

Rachel did go for a run in the morning, but much later.

We all had lunch and then Evan and I took Noah to his football game.  He had to be there 30 minutes ahead of time to warm up.

Grandma, Papa and Rachel showed up in time for the game.  The game was a close game.  In the second half, they handed off to Noah.  He immediately ran face first into the largest kid on the other team.  Noah's face hit the kid in the chest.  The boy seemed to wrap his arms around Noah.  I started screaming that this kid was tackling Noah.  Strangely the kid didn't grab Noah's flag.  Noah pushed off of the kid, bounced backwards and then flew down the sideline.  He was running really fast.  The defender from the other side of the field ran across the field and had the angle on Noah.  Had Noah cut back under the defender he would have had a touchdown.  But the kid was able to make barely get Noah's flag after Noah had run 3/4 of the length of the field.  Everyone had been screaming Noah's name - "Go Noah!"  It was a great run.  Especially since Noah never stopped running and pushed that kid away.  I told him the only thing that would have been better is if he knocked the kid flying like Jerome Bettis.  Unfortunately, Noah's team lost.  Despite being 1-3 they are one play in each game away from being 4-0.  They're pretty good.

The boys and Rachel cleaned up in the afternoon while I did some work.

For dinner, we made grilled Vietnamese pork over rice noodles.  It was really good.

The boys are going to be now.

Until next time...

Baseball Practice But No Football Practice

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning Evan had baseball practice.  We met up at Wendy's with Reid's dad and took Reid to practice.  We did stop at Donut Taco Palace on the way up.

Evan had a good practice.  They had it set up with 9 kids in the field and three batting.  When there were three outs, they'd bring in another 3 kids to bat and rotate kids in the field.  Evan caught twice, played left field once, batted, played first twice and pitched.  He looked good at first base today.  When he was pitching, he actually pitched six outs since he got threw the first three outs so quickly they kept going.  He was very sharp pitching.

On the way home, we brought Reid and Braeden with us and met their parents to drop them off.

Rachel and Noah were at HEB when we got home.

Noah was supposed to have football practice this afternoon, but around lunch time it got cancelled.  It was nice to have the afternoon free.

Evan played basketball outside for a bit with Nathan.

Then I made popcorn and the boys and I watched the movie The Rock.

For dinner, we had Yaghi's pizza delivered.  We watched Timeless while eating.

The boys are in bed.

Until next time...

Austin Spurs

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Last night, we went to watch the Austin Spurs play basketball.  The Austin Spurs are the minor league basketball team for the San Antonio Spurs.  Rachel got free tickets to go see the game.  Ryan Arcidiacano, who played for Villanova the last four years and was the NCAA tournament MVP last season, is on the Austin Spurs.  The boys, especially Evan, had been wanting to go watch him play.

The game started at 8pm but the gates opened at 6:30.  Rachel was tutoring and wouldn't be able to get there until between 7:30 and 8 so the boys and I decided to get there early to see if we could meet Arcidiacano.  When we got in we found our seats which weren't really that close to the court.  We saw that both teams were shooting around and then Evan spotted Arcidiacano.  We tried to walk down but realized you had to have tickets to get the floor.  There were special tables at the end of the court where you could sit and watch the game.  In that section looked like a group of people all wearing Villanova gear.  Arcidiacano was talking to them.  We talked to an usher about how to get down and she told us to talk to customer service which was right behind that section.  We talked to them but they said you needed special tickets to get in there.  So we walked to a different section where we could see better.  The usher who was guarding the entrance to the floor came over to us and we explained we wanted to see the player.  She said "well, come on in" and let us in.  The boys walked up to Arcidiacano who was signing other autographs.  After he finished, he asked the boys if they would like his autograph (since both boys looked star struck) and they nodded yes.  Then he asked the boys if they would like a picture.  Again, they nodded yes. So I was able to get a picture of the boys with him.  When we walked away, I thought Evan was going to burst.  He was so excited.  He could hardly contain himself.

The game itself was fun.  Arcidiacano played well.  We challenged Rachel to actually watch the game and not play on her phone.  She did a good job.

I had a phone meeting this morning.  While I was doing that, Rachel met a woman who made "bullets" for coffee and was selling them.  Rachel had offered to meet her and do a blog post about it in exchange for the product.  It's like butter and coconut oil that you put in coffee to add protein.

After my meeting I drove to get my oil changed.  Rachel picked me up from there and we had lunch at Wholy Bagel.

After school, the boys played in the house and then later out with the neighbors.

I then took Evan to his hitting practice.  After hitting, we met Rachel and Noah at Taco Cabana and had dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Still busy and more baseball

This morning we walked to school.

I had to be at Home Away at 10am for a training I giving.  I was there until a little after noon.

Morry and I walked to get the kids.

We talked to our neighbor Jill for a little while while we were on our way home.

Shortly after getting home I left for tutoring.

Then, Morry and Evan left for baseball.

When I came home I finished getting dinner ready.

Morry and Evan got home around 7pm.

We had corned beef for dinner.  I bought spirals of zucchini that you eat like spaghetti.  Noah and I were the only ones that ate it.  Noah had multiple servings.  He liked putting breadcrumbs on it.

The boys are playing video games now and then will get ready for bed.

No Camp Gladiator

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I decided not to go to Camp Gladiator this morning after dropping the boys off from school.  I needed some rest and Rachel wanted to take a mini-break after running the half marathon.

I worked from home all day while Rachel went to Pilates followed by a quick trip to Costco.

Noah went to Grandma and Papa's right after school.  Normally Evan has baseball practice and Rachel tutors so that's why Noah goes there.  Rachel didn't tutor today but Noah still wanted to go.

Around 5, I left to take Evan to practice.  We stopped and got and picked up Evan's teammate, Braeden on the way up.

Evan had a good practice from what I saw.  He made an excellent throw from the foul territory on right field to third base almost getting the runner.

We dropped Braeden off on the way home and then went home and had dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

Recovering

Morry was up late last night working and I was still sore from the run yesterday, but we managed to still make it to Camp Gladiator.

Morry had some phone meetings this morning and then we were both able to rest/take it easy for a little while this morning.

We walked to pick up the kids from school.

Right after getting home, Morry and Evan left for baseball.

When they got back, Morry left again to meet a friend to attend the UT Basketball game.

For dinner, the boys and I had leftover steak in sandwiches with pita bread.  The boys both ate very well.

Now Evan and Noah are in their rooms ready for bed.

Another Long Day

This morning I woke up at 5:45am.  The 3M Half Marathon started at 7:30am.   It was very windy today. There were winds up to 40 miles per hour.  I ran the half marathon in 2 hours 17 min.  Morry, the kids, and Papa met me at the finish line.  Then, they drove me to pick up my car near the start line.

Noah needed to use the restroom so we went inside to World Market (near where I parked).  I let the kids pick out 2 small things of candy each.

We dropped Papa off back at home.

We were home for just a little bit and then it was time to go to Noah's football game.  He played very well and his team won!

In the afternoon I got lunches ready for the week.

Morry and the boys watched the Steelers game.

We had shish kabobs for dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Evan is in a terrible mood right now.

Long Day

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, Evan and I left the house at 8:10am.  Evan had the last of his catching lessons at 9am.  We stopped at Donut Taco Palace on the way.

Rachel and Noah walked to Starbucks today.  Rachel didn't want to run today since she's running the half marathon tomorrow but she wanted to stay loose.  Noah had a breakfast sandwich and coffee cake there.

After Evan's catching practice, we stayed up north where the fields were because he had a regular team practice at 1pm.  We went to Dick's Sporting Goods and got Evan new shoes.  He already outgrew the shoes we got him in October.  We also got him new cleats.

From there, we went and got lunch at Texadelphia.

Evan's practice went well.  I thought he did well defensively, including at third base.  He was talking non-stop on the way home which was a really good sign.

We stopped at home for 5 minutes for Evan to get changed.  Then we went to pick Noah up from football practice.  Evan tried to make a half court basketball shot while were there.  Noah, a boy named Max from Noah's football team and his brother Jake watched Evan do this.  They helped catch the ball and get it back to him.

For dinner, Rachel picked up pizza from Pint House Pizza. Papa came over and ate with us.  We watched the first episode of the Netflix show Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

Charity Dinner

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Last night, Rachel and I went to a charity dinner and auction for an organization called RBI Austin.  They provide baseball for low income families.  There were quite a few major league baseball players there.  The honoree for the dinner was the former UT baseball coach Auggie Garido who is the winningest coach in NCAA baseball history.  Because of that, many of his former players were there as well.  I was able to talk to a guy who pitched for the Pirates for a few years.  He was very nice and very talkative.  We did donate some money but we didn't buy any of the big auction items.  Grandma and Papa took care of the boys.

Today, we walked the boys to school.  We've had sun the last two days so it was a nice walk.

For lunch, we went to Wholy Bagel.  After that we drove downtown so Rachel could pick up her packet for the half marathon she is running in on Sunday.

There was no baseball after school today so we just hung out at the house.

For dinner, we went with Papa to Evangeline's Cafe.  It was good.  The boys ate well.  They both got crawfish.

When we got home, we watched Timeless.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

Separate Dinners

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The rain stopped long enough us for us to drive to the trail and walk the boys down that way to school.

When we got home, I left to go to the airport to get my Global Entry interview taken care of.  Now I can go through the TSA Precheck line.

Rachel didn't have anywhere to go today during the day.

We were able to walk to get the boys from school.

Rachel took Noah to tutoring.  Then they went to a Pink Ribbon Cowgirls dinner at Whole Foods.

I took Evan to baseball practice.  We stopped at Raising Cane's on the way home and ate there.

The boys are in bed now.

Until next time...

Lots of things

This morning we walked the boys to school.  Evan's Science Fair project was due today, so Morry carried it on our walk.

Since we had phone meeting scheduled at 9am, we knew we'd have to leave Camp Gladiator early.  So, I ran there from dropping the kids off.  It was about 2.8 miles.  Toward the end of my run it started really raining.  When I got to the park, Morry was arriving in the car and they told us camp was moved to a church nearby so that we could be indoors.  I got in the car and we drove over to the church.  We had to leave there around 8:45.

We had our 9am meeting that lasted an hour.

I met Deborah for lunch at Central Market and then went to Pink Ribbon Pilates after that.

I came home for just a few minutes and then drove to pick up the kids.  It was raining on and off and had gotten cold outside.

Evan went home with Wade.

Noah and I came home for a little while.

Morry picked up Evan at Wade's at 4:30 and they went to baseball.

Noah came with me to tutoring.

When Noah and I got home around 7:15, I started making dinner - lettuce wraps.

Morry and Evan got home around 8pm.

Now, the boys are getting ready for bed.  Noah is here standing next to me and watching what I am writing.  Now he's smiling.

Sunday and Monday

Yesterday I took Evan to camp info session and Morry and Noah went to Noah's football game.  Noah played well, but his team lost in overtime.

Evan seemed to really enjoy the camp presentation.  The kids who had gone were very excited and had only good things to say.

I exchanged phone numbers with a couple of other women there so we can hopefully get the kids together before camp.

Today, Morry and I went to Camp Gladiator in the morning.

Around lunch time I took the boys to Half Price Books and then got them lunch at Sonic.

I took Noah to his football practice and the coach asked if Evan would like to help out and play as well.  Of course he said yes.

Later, Morry took both boys to Evan's baseball lesson.

I picked up Grandma and Papa from the airport and then we all met at Texas Roadhouse for dinner. The food was good and the boys ate well.

Now the boys are getting ready for bed.

Practices

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, Rachel went to a focus group for bras for mastectomy patients.  It was on campus.  She left before I woke up.

Noah and I were home by ourselves for a while since Evan was at a friends.  We had leftovers for lunch.

Rachel came home just before I left to meet Evan at his practice.  They moved Evan's baseball practice indoors due to the rain overnight and the field being wet.

When his practice was over, I drove home and dropped Evan off.  Noah was at his football practice.  Rachel had taken him.  I went over and watched the end of practice.  Noah seemed to do well.

For dinner, we went to Enchiladas y Mas.  They have the best fajitas there.  All four of us had fajitas.

We went to HEB and got food for the week on the way home.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

No New Food

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

It was raining hard when we got up so we drove the boys to the front of the school.  They had predicted a chance of rain, but I was still surprised to see how hard it rained.

Rachel took Grandma and Papa to the airport for a trip shortly after we got home.

Rachel and I had a phone meeting with Focus Forward.  After that we went to Wholy Bagel for lunch.

It had stopped raining earlier in the day so we were able to walk to school.

Evan and I had a parent/player meeting to kick off the spring season at TRPD.   The director of the organization spoke to the parents and Evan's coach talked to the team.  They got their goal books for the season.  Everyone on the team except for one boy is returning from the fall.  The "new" boy is not really new.  He played on the team last spring but took a break in the fall.  While Evan wasn't on the team in the spring, Evan knows the boy.  He played with Evan on the Marauders and they played against each other for years at Oak Hill.  It's nice to keep that consistency.

Evan went home with a boy from the team - Everett - after the meeting.  He'll be staying over Everett's tonight and go with Everett to practice tomorrow where I'll pick him up.

I stopped at Via 313 on the way home and got dinner for Noah, Rachel and me.  Noah seemed to enjoy having us to himself.

Until next time...

Noodle-wrapped Chicken

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I went to Camp Gladiator this morning following taking the boys to school.  It was hot and humid for January.  It was close to 70 degrees at around 8am.  I felt I did pretty well.

Rachel stayed home today.  I had to leave to get my hair cut and I stopped at HEB to get Distilled water for Evan's science fair project.

We walked to get the boys from school and then I took Evan to hitting lessons.  On the way I dropped Noah off at Grandma and Papa's house.  Rachel left to tutor.

We got home at relatively the same time.  Rachel stopped to pick Noah up first.

For dinner tonight we had noodle-wrapped chicken.  The chicken was marinated over night in a garlic mixture.  We then wrapped it in cooked noodles and baked it.  Noah ate all of his but Evan didn't try.  It was pretty good.

Rachel is out for a girls night out with some friends now.  The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Persian Shish Kabob

This morning we walked to school, but did not have Camp Gladiator today.

Today was not too busy for me, but I still got stuff done around the house and did some work.

Morry went out to lunch with his friend Jeff.

We walked to pick up the kids from school.

Morry took the boys to TRPD for their lessons and conditioning.

For dinner tonight we made the Persian Shish Kabobs.  They were very good.  The whole family ate the meal tonight! Yay!

Now the boys are getting ready for bed.

Pad Thai

This morning we walked the boys to school and then went to Camp Gladiator.

Later in the morning I went to Costco and then to Whole Foods for the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls lunch.

Morry and I walked to pick up the kids from school.

Noah and Evan went to Grandma and Papa's house this afternoon while I was tutoring.  I picked them up on my way home.

For dinner we made Pad Thai.  It was very good.  Noah, Morry, and I ate it.  Evan actually took a bite, but said he didn't like it.  Evan did end up eating a lot of tofu wrapped with lettuce.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Here are some pictures.

New recipes

This morning we walked the kids to school and then went to Camp Gladiator.

We also walked to pick up the kids afternoon.  It warmed up this afternoon to the 70s.

Noah went over to Jude's after school and Evan and Morry left for a baseball lesson.

I got Noah around 5:30 and shortly after Evan and Morry came home.

This week we are trying new recipes.  Yesterday, we made paella and today it was lettuce wraps.  Both were very good.  Noah tried both of them, but we couldn't get Evan to taste them.

Soon, the boys will get ready for bed.

Here are a few pictures from last night and tonight.

Steelers and Noah Playing Football

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, Evan interviewed Zayde for a paper he has to turn in tomorrow.  We ended the call with enough time for everyone to get some food before the Steelers game. Evan, Noah and I all had leftovers from last night.

While we were talking, Rachel ran 8 miles in order to get ready for the half marathon she is running in two weeks.

We watched the first quarter and a half before we had to leave to go to Noah's game.  We brought my iPad and Evan and I watched while Noah warmed up.

Grandma, Papa and Rachel showed up in time to watch the game.  Noah played well.  He had a run and two catches.  On one of his catches, he almost broke it for a touchdown.  Noah's team is much better than last season.  They lost on a pick-six right at the end of the game.  But they were in it, if not having the upper hand most of the game.

After the game, Noah, Evan and I went to a mini-mart and picked up some drinks that Evan will use as part of his science project.

For dinner, Rachel and I made paella with steak and shrimp.

The boys are going to start getting ready for bed shortly.

Until next time...

Baseball and Football

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan had a hitting lesson this morning.  We left a little early so we could stop to get donuts, of course.  Donut Taco Palace was not on the way but we stopped at a place called the Donut Hole.  Evan got a donut called "The Cookie Monster".  It was a donut with blue icing, white puffy icing circles with chocolate chips for the eyes and oreos to make the dark open mouth.  It looked good. He really liked it.

His hitting lesson went well.  He has a lot more work to do, but he's starting to be able to feel when he does it wrong which is a big break through.

I got home and got lunch for Noah.  I took him to his football practice which I thought was 1-3pm.  About half the other parents thought that as well, but it was 2-4.  So we waited around until 2pm.  I left when the coach got there and went home and had lunch.  Noah said he had a good practice.  The team looks much better than the fall team.  We'll see how that plays out.

After practice we hung out at the house for a while and watched football.

For dinner, we went to Me Con Bistro.

After dinner, we went to HEB to get things for the week.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Quite Cold

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Our walk this morning to school was quite chilly.  It was 28 degrees outside with a 15 mph winds.  A few weeks ago when it was 23 degrees, there was no wind so it didn't feel quite as bad as it felt this morning.

A few days ago, Aaron asked me to fill in for him at a meeting today at HomeAway.  He had a meeting with a different client.  So I drove up there.  I actually had a phone call with Focus Forward when I first got there, and then went to the meeting.  I just listened.  It was more of an introductory meeting.

Rachel and I met at Wholy Bagel afterward.

We decided not to walk to get the boys.  It was still quite cold.  It had only warmed up to just above freezing and it was still windy.  We drove to the community center and then walked from there.

For dinner, we had Papa John's delivered.  We watched a new show on Netflix called The White Rabbit Experiment.  It's a science-type show.  The boys liked it.

They're getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

More Meetings

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, we went to Camp Gladiator after taking the boys to school.  We're definitely getting back into the swing of things.

When we got home, I did some work.   Rachel got cleaned up and left for the north lunch for the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls.

We had a 1pm and a 2pm meeting at HomeAway.  I suggested to them today that, perhaps, we were having too many meetings.  They did not agree.  I did not anger them, I merely suggested that we collapse the meetings.

Rachel went to tutor after the meetings.

Grandma picked the boys up from school.  I picked them up from her house.

For dinner we had Coke ham.

Evan is doing his batting exercises right now and then the boys will go to bed.

Until next time...

Return to School

School started today, so it was back to our normal routine.  We walked with Lizzy to school.  Lizzy had fun playing with her friend Carlos, the puppy.

I went for a run this morning.

Then, I had a bunch of meetings.  There was a 10am call that I got on and then was told I didn't really need to be on that call.

At 12pm I had to be at Home Away for a training I was running.  That went from 12-2.  Then, there was another meeting at 2pm.  Morry came for the 2:00 meeting.  I left early so that I could get the kids from school.

I drove to school to pick up the boys.  They seemed to be in good moods.

Shortly after getting home, Morry took the boys to TRPD baseball conditioning and catcher's class.

They got home around 7:30 and then we had dinner.  I had the leftover tacos.  Morry and the kids had fried matzoh.

Now, the boys are supposed to be getting ready for bed.

Final Day of Winter Break

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We had Camp Gladiator again this morning.  I felt like it went better this morning than yesterday morning.

Rachel and I both had a HomeAway phone meeting when we got home.  Then Rachel had another call with another of our clients.  I had to step in for Aaron for two additional HomeAway calls.

Rachel and Evan went to Office Depot to get some ways for him to be a bit more organized for school.

Noah went to Jude's in the afternoon.

For dinner we had pre-made pork tacos that Rachel had gotten at Costco.

The boys are about to get ready for bed.

Until next time...

Bike Ride and Football Practice

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I got up early to go to Camp Gladiator.  It was our first time since before Christmas Break.  I think it showed.

When we got back I did some work.

Noah started building the robot that Grandmom got him.  It's all built but it's not responding to the iPad commands yet.  I'll need to spend some time with it.

Papa came over and looked at the robot with Noah and then Papa helped Noah try to finish his bike training.  Noah was able to start and stop on his own a few times.  He just needs a little more practice.

Evan played outside with the neighbors.

In the middle of the afternoon, I took Noah to football practice. He's playing flag football for the winter season.  He had a good practice.

Evan had catching practice in the evening.  I made him dinner early and then we went out there.  He also looked good catching.

Rachel and I ate dinner when we got home.

The boys are asleep now.

Until next time...

Happy New Year!

Yesterday, we met the Williams and went downtown for barbecue.  We had lunch at Coopers and then walked around the lake and Auditorium Shores.  The city was setting up for the New Year's party, so we were able to hear some music of a band rehearsing.  It was a nice day.

At night, we met the Edwards at Alamo Drafthouse to see the movie, The Passengers.  We enjoyed that.  We got home around 11pm and Grandma and Papa came over to celebrate New Years.  They stayed until a little after midnight.

Today, we went to the Polar Bear Splash at Barton Springs.  We all jumped into the cold (68 degree) water.

In the afternoon, Aunt Sandy and Uncle Marvin had us all over for lunch.

We had a light dinner.

Now, the kids are getting ready for bed.

Here are some pictures.
