Evan back at school

Evan was able to go back to school today.  We drove both boys to school and they seemed in good moods.

Morry and I did our usual Friday lunch at Wholy Bagel.

We walked to get the boys from school.

After school Evan played at Jack's house.

We got a haircut for Evan at Great Clips.  Evan really needed one.  Last time, they didn't go short enough.

For dinner we picked up food from Yaghi's.  Morry and Evan had pizza.  I had ravioli.  Noah had a hotdog at home.

Soon we'll be getting the boys ready for bed.  Evan has an 8am basketball game tomorrow.

Stomach Bug Day 2

This morning Evan was in a bad mood.  He said he wasn't feeling well and didn't want to go to school.  Normally he enjoys school, so we though he probably was feeling bad.

Morry took Noah to school.

Evan was on the couch most of the morning.

Around noon he told me he was ready to go to school.  I told him we'd wait until tomorrow to go back.  He's been acting a lot better since then.

I got Noah from school.

For dinner we had and Asian frozen meal.  After dinner we went to HEB.

We just got back a few minutes ago and now we are getting the boys ready for bed.

Stomach Bug

Evan woke up this morning with a stomach bug.  He ended up staying home from school.  Morry dropped Noah off while I stayed home with Evan.

I had a check up appointment with my rheumatologist today.

When I got home Evan seemed to be feeling a lot better.  He went out with Morry to get a smoothie.  Evan was feeling so good then he asked to go to school.  It was already after lunch at that point and Morry didn't want to take him to school for just a short time.

Later in the afternoon Morry walked to get Noah from school.

Evan and Morry went to basketball practice, but came home early since Evan wasn't feeling well.

While Evan and Morry were gone Noah and I put together a shelf/cabinet that had been sitting in his room for a while.  Noah helped me follow the direction and use a screwdriver.

Evan is laying in our room now watching TV.  We'll see how he feels in the morning.

Noah is ready for bed and playing on his computer.

Here's a picture of the finished cabinet.

Another Snow Day?

Last night we got a cold front with rain.  They announced school would be delayed 2 hours.  While we were getting the kids ready for school this morning we got the call that school was canceled.   There was no snow, but lots of of ice on the roads.   There were a bunch of accidents and they didn't want more people out on the roads.

The boys were excited to have another snow day.  We just stayed at home today.  Morry wanted to get a smoothie from Smoothie King later in the day.  He called first, but they didn't answer.  He ended up just making a smoothie at home.

For dinner we had tacos and the boys had pasta.

We Facetimed with Uncle Mike, Maya, Grandma, and Papa.

Now the boys are supposed to be getting ready for bed.

No Internet

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Last night, Noah stayed in Evan's room.  It was the first time we allowed that to happen on a school night.  It went well, they haven't gotten good at going to sleep without talking.  The problem was Noah sleeping on the top bunk when he's notoriously bad at waking up.  I was able to get him down and get him dressed.

When I got home and tried to work, the internet was moving extremely slowly.  I finally gave up.  After all these weeks of driving the boys to baseball and having them eat in the car and driving in dirt and gravel parking lots, my car was in desperate need of a car wash.  There is a place by here that does hand washing and they had a Groupon.  I also know they have WiFi and I could sit and work.  I bought the Groupon and tried to drive over there only to get stuck in traffic on the way because of an accident. When I got there and gave them the car to take, I discovered their WiFi was down.  So I still couldn't do any work.  When that finally finished, I called Rachel and she told me the Internet was still down.  So I drove to Starbucks and worked from there.

Around lunch time, Rachel texted me to tell me the Internet was back up so I came home.

In the afternoon, Rachel went to tutor and I picked up the boys from school.  The cold front had started to come in.

Gabby came over and played with the boys.

We had left over corned beef for dinner.

We're just about to get the boys ready for bed.

Until next time...

Only One Today

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, Evan and I left the house around 7am to go to his baseball game.  We stopped at Donut Taco Palace I on the way out.

It was cold when we got to the fields, but it warmed up considerably during the game. Unfortunately, Evan's team lost and did not advance.  It was, however, a terrific baseball game.  The score through three innings was 1-0, Marauders.  I've never seen such good defense played by both teams when the teams are made up of 7- and 8-year-olds.  It was terrific.  The other team was from San Antonio.  After one out in the top of the 4th, Evan came up to bat and turned hard on an inside pitch.  It went right down the left field line all the way to the corner.  It started a rally where the Marauders scored 4 runs to go ahead 5-0.  Unfortunately, the other team scored 6 runs in the bottom of the 4th.  After the Marauders tied it up in the top of the 5th, the other team scored 6 runs in the bottom of the fifth.  The Marauders had one more chance in the top of the 6th but came up short.  Evan played catcher most of the game.  In the bottom of the fifth he made a great play.  He got a throw home with a kid coming from third.  Instinctively, he blocked the plate and applied a hard tag.  Evan really saved a run there.

After the game we came home.  Rachel had picked up Zayde.  I took a shower and then we went to Waterloo Ice House for lunch.

After lunch, I had a meeting.

Then, Evan, Zayde, Rachel and I went into the cul-de-sac.  Evan and Nathan played basketball against me.

When the boys had enough we came back home and Nathan and Noah played Wii.

I grilled outside and we ate outside on the porch for the first time.

On the way to drop Zayde off at home, we stopped at TCBY.

The boys are now in bed.

Until next time...

Let's Play Two

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan's baseball team, the Marauders, were in a tournament this weekend.  Saturday is a two-game seeding.  Basically, based on your record after playing two games on Saturday, you're seeded for a single-elimination tournament on Sunday.  We got up early this morning as we needed to be out in Dripping Springs by 9:30am.  We stopped at Donut Taco Palace I on the way out there.

Evan played very well in the first game.  He played most of the game at third base but did play a handful of innings at catcher.  He played both positions very well.  In the first inning he was involved in a number of plays and threw someone out at first.  At catcher, he really shone.  He was very aggressive and was involved in making sure kids didn't score at least two different times.  In the third inning, he crushed a ball for a two-out bases-clearing double.  It was really a key hit in the game that played a crucial role.  We won that game by 3 runs.

In the second game, the kids stopped hitting very well.  Evan got two hits but several of the other kids didn't hit well.  Evan played even more catcher.  When he was at third base, he was involved in a run-down. Unfortunately, the team didn't win.

We're now a fifth seed out of 8.  We're playing the fourth seed at 9am Sunday.

On the way home, we stopped and got Icees at a gas station since I needed gas.  While we were there, I saw they were selling the original Batman movie and original X-Men movie for $5 each on DVD.  The boys have been asking to see them.  So I bought them.  We watched them this afternoon.  I think the kids liked watching both movies. I particularly enjoyed the old Batman.

For dinner, I picked up Torchy's for Rachel and me while Rachel made dinner for the boys.

The boys are now in bed.  Evan needs to get sleep for his game(s) tomorrow.

Until next time...

Snow Day

Overnight it snowed just a tiny bit, but it was also raining and below freezing so the roads were icy.  School was canceled.  The boys were of course super excited.  They played in both the front and back yard.

Later in the morning it warmed up to about 34 and the snow and ice started to melt.  We took the boys "sledding" at the park and then to Wholy Bagel.

We took it easy at home this afternoon.

We just ate dinner and now the boys are about to get in the bath.

Here are some pictures from today.

Chilly

This morning we drove the boys to school.

The temperature has been dropping all day.

When we drove to pick up the kids from school it was in the 30s and misting.

I tutored one student this afternoon.

For dinner we had corned beef, rice, and salad.

They are saying we could get some snow/ice overnight.  We'll see if it really happens.

We'll let the boys play for a little bit longer and then get them ready for bed.

Porch

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning was a normal morning.  The kids were well behaved before school.

I had a meeting in the morning.  Rachel stayed here.

Last night, Evan helped me bring the table and the chairs on to the porch.  The porch is pretty much done. There are a handful of spots that the contractor has to touch up with the stain and sealant but we can use the porch.  After my meeting I washed the tables and chairs and the put the cushions on the chairs.  I worked outside on the porch for a bit.

Rachel tutored and I picked the boys up from school.  Gabby came over and watched the boys.

Evan had basketball practice.  He played really well.  They are teaching him to be physical.  It's good and he seems to like it.

The boys are in their rooms now.

Until next time...

Flu Shots

This morning we drove to school.

During the day I did some things around the house.

We walked to get the boys from school.

After they finished homework, I had the boys finish cleaning up as well.

At 6:25 they had appointments to get flu shots.  I had made this appointment weeks ago.  It was the soonest time they had.

Morry dropped us off at the doctors office on Far West and then went to pick up Zayde.  After getting their flu shots we all went to dinner nearby at Austin Terrier.

We took Zayde home.

Morry is now reading to the boys.

Lego Camp

Since there wasn't school today, the boys did a morning Lego camp.  It was from 9am - 12 at the community center near us.  The boys said they had a good time and would want to go again.

While they were at the camp I did a big HEB shopping trip.

This afternoon we took it easy at home.

For dinner we all had a variety of things.  Morry had the leftover Chinese food. The boys had pasta, and I had a tuna sandwich.

Evan and Noah are supposed to be cleaning up now, but I hear mostly playing.

Soon, we'll get them ready for bed.

A Walk in the Park

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I both slept in this morning. The boys were playing Wii downstairs when we got downstairs.

I did some work in the early afternoon, while the boys played together.  Rachel gave them lunch.

Later, we went to the Circle C Park and took a walk.  We brought Lizzy.  The dry creek bed that the boys had played in and found "fossils" in the summer was completely submerged in water.  This was good news for Lizzy who went swimming.  The boys took turns throwing a tennis ball to her in the water.

Before dinner, the boys Christian and Connor across the street asked if Evan and Noah would come over to their house.  Evan went over there.  Noah stayed here.

I made pizza for dinner.

The boys are about to have a bath.

Until next time...

Basketball

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan had a basketball game this morning.  It was his first of the season.  I took Evan over to the middle school where they play for warmups.  Rachel and Noah went to pick up Zayde so he could see Evan play.

Evan played center in the game.  He's one of the tallest on his team.  He had never practiced the jump ball at the beginning of the game.  He did well considering it was the first time he had done it.  He got an offensive rebound and shot it right after and got the first two points of the game for his team.  Overall, he did pretty well.  It was a huge difference from last season where he wasn't that into it.

After the game, Rachel, Zayde and Noah went to Wholy Bagel and got bagels and lox.  They also picked up cookies we had pre-ordered from Tiff's Treats.

We had a nice brunch at home. Noah had a ton of lox and capers.

After lunch, Evan played Wii some and then the boys wanted to show Despicable Me to Zayde.

When the movie finished, we watched Villanova basketball which was on TV.   Then we went outside and Evan praticed dribbling and trying to get around me.

For dinner, we tried out a new restaurant called Smoke n' Hops which is a microbrewery that has barbeque.  It was just ok.

We dropped Zayde off at home.

The boys are in bed now.

Until next time...

Yay! It's Friday

This morning we drove the boys to school.

Morry and I had our usual lunch at Wholy Bagel.

We walked to get the boys from school and then Jack came over.  Evan was supposed to go to Jack's house, but his sister had strep.  The boys played outside most of the time they were together.  It was nice out this afternoon.

For dinner we had China Dynasty delivered.

Soon, we'll get the boys ready for bed.

Rachel Back on the Mend

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Yesterday the cedar fever knocked Rachel down for the count.  She barely slept on Tuesday night into Wednesday and ended up going to the doctor to make sure it wasn't anything more serious.  He prescribed some medication for her.

Last night I took Evan to basketball practice and then ate dinner after I got home and did not get a chance to write the blog.

This morning, Noah was very cranky.  He has not had the same allergy issues he had on Tuesday morning.  The Zyrtec has made a big difference.  But he was tired.  I wonder if he didn't sleep well that first night he had the allergies and the lack of sleep caught up with him.  It was difficult getting him to school.  Rachel did not come with us.  She needed to sleep.

Rachel got up late and felt somewhat better.  She ended up tutoring for an hour.  She's still not great, but better.

I picked the boys up from school. They were in good moods.

This evening, I met with a father to see if he would want to coach with me for Noah's team.

The boys are asleep now.

Until next time...

Almost Done

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning when I woke Noah up, he couldn't open his right eye.  He's been having really bad allergies from the cedar in the air.  His eye was watering yesterday and I guess when he slept it formed a coating over his eye.  I put a warm washcloth on it and he rubbed off the goop afterwards.  I told him he didn't have to go to school if he didn't feel well but he insisted on going to school.  I had gotten Zyrtec last night.  I gave it to him before we left.

Because of Noah's allergies we drove to school today.  We were concerned about him being outside with the cedar before school started.  If we walk home and he has an allergy attack, we can deal with it at home, but we didn't want him having to deal with it at school.

Rachel had an MAT appointment today and then she met the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls for lunch at Whole Foods.

One of my clients, Strait Music Company, is sponsoring the Marauders.  I went out and picked up the check from them, ran to the bank and then picked up a smoothie for myself.

In the early afternoon, our contractor came and cleaned the porch.  He removed all the trash and power washed the porch.  He was hoping to be able to stain today.  Unfortunately, our backyard doesn't get much sun so the porch didn't dry in time.  He will stain and seal the porch tomorrow and then our porch will be done!

We picked the boys up from school and we did walk home.  Noah looked much much better.  His energy level was up.

We had pasta for dinner and then gave the kids baths.  We wanted Noah to soak in the bath and hopefully help with his allergies.

The boys are in their rooms now.

Until next time...

Allergies

This morning we walked to school.

While the boys were at school I got my car inspected and then later went to tutor.

Morry picked up the boys from school.  Noah was not feeling well.  He had really bad allergies.  The cedar pollen has been very high lately.  I been suffering from allergies too.  Morry gave Noah some Benadryl when he got home and that seemed to helped.

Gabby came over to babysit.

When I got home we made dinner - leftovers from last night.

Morry just ran out to pick up more allergy medicine for Noah.

When he gets home we'll get the boys ready for bed.

Brunch and Marauders

Hello everyone this is Morry.

This morning, Rachel and I slept in.  When we got up, we got ready and picked Zayde up for brunch.  We went to a place called The Frisco that's near Zayde's rental house.  It was ok.

From there, we came back to our house.  Evan played Wii some and then he insisted we go out and play football some.

Evan had a tournament as part of the Marauders today.  It was just a two-game tournament.  Only two teams had registered for the tournament.  So we played the same team in back-to-back games.  Rachel, Noah and Zayde came out and watched the first game.

The Marauders played really well.  The Mercy Rule was invoked in the first game.  I believe the final score was 20-4.  Evan hit the ball really well.  He led off and got on base consistently.  All the kids were crushing the ball.  I enjoyed that since I was pitching.  We also played really good defense.  We've only had one practice since the last tournament so I was very impressed with the kids.  Evan played third base and catcher primarily.  I think he likes both positions quite a bit.  He also played second base one inning.

After the games, we came home.  Rachel had made chicken in the crockpot for us.  Zayde stayed through dinner.  I took him home after dinner.

Until next time...

Bagel Friday and Grilling

We drove the boys to school this morning.  Our plan was to walk, but when we walked outside it was raining.

Morry and I went to Wholy Bagel for lunch.  We had skipped a few weeks over the vacation.  It was nice to be back.  :)

We walked to pick up the kids from school.

We used our grill for the first time tonight.  For dinner we had flank steak, corn on the cob, and salad.

Here are a few pictures.

Zayde's Here

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning it was warm so we could have walked to school but it was foggy and misting so we ended up driving the boys.

After that, we drove over to someone's house in Circle C that was selling some barstools.  We wanted to get some for our new porch.  We liked the barstools and a bench they were selling.  We had to get cash and run to HEB so we left and ran our errands and then came back and picked up the furniture.

At 1pm, Evan was doing his "mad scientist" project.  He had to do a science experiment in front of the class and explain to the class what was happening.  He then had to field questions about it.  Each child in the class takes a turn - one per week.  The parents are invited to come watch.  Evan demonstrated about air pressure keeping water in a straw.  Who knew that all of those years playing with my drink at a restaurant would come in handy?  Evan did well and he liked that we came in and watched him.

We came home and found that Zayde's plane was delayed.  Then we walked and picked up the boys from school.

After school, Rachel went to tutor a new student.  Evan went to Nathan's house.  Around 4:15, Noah and I left to pick Zayde up from the airport.  We returned at 5:30.  We packed the car with Zayde's stuff and then went to dinner at Kerbey Lane.

After dinner, we drove up to the house that Zayde is renting for two months.  It was very nice.

We left Zayde there, came home and put the boys to bed.

Until next time...

Gabby and Tutoring

This morning we drove again to school since it was cold out.

Morry picked up the boys from school and Gabby came over.  I was out tutoring.

When I got home, it was just Noah and Gabby.  Morry and Evan were at his basketball practice.

I got dinner ready while they were out.

Right as were were about to start eating the guys came to deliver our tables.  We got our new kitchen table set and new patio furniture set tonight.

In a few minutes we'll get the boys ready for bed.

Back to School Brrrr

This morning when we left it was 17 degrees outside. We did not walk.  We drove to the community center and walked the path to the school.  I was cold, but not too bad since the wind wasn't blowing.

We drove to pick up the kids but it wasn't as cold this afternoon.

The boys were in good moods.

For dinner we had tacos and salad.

Soon we'll get ready for bed.

Last Day of Vacation

It was really cold here today.  In the morning it was in the 20s.  Evan went out with me to get some books. Someone in the neighborhood was a teacher and was selling a lot of kids' books.  Evan picked out 39 books, most were non-fiction.  He got quite a few sports books.

The boys stayed at home today watching TV, enjoying their last day of vacation.  I went to HEB, but they didn't want to come with me.

For dinner we had Sprite chicken and cornbread.

The boys are ready for bed.  Noah is on his computer.  Evan is watching a few more minutes of the football game and then we'll put them to bed.

Nathan

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, both Rachel and I slept in.  When I came downstairs the boys were playing Wii together.  After they played Wii they went upstairs and played Legos.

Rachel went out for a free meditation clinic.  I made Evan lunch while Rachel was gone.  Noah didn't want lunch.  When Rachel got back, she made lunch for Noah.

After that, Rachel and Evan went down to Nathan's and asked if he would come over to play.  They played outside for awhile as well as upstairs and then on the Wii.

I played football with Evan and Nathan before dinner.

Nathan stayed over for dinner.  We had hamburgers.

A little while ago, Evan and I walked Nathan home.  Now it's time for the boys to go to bed.

Until next time...

Back to Practice

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, everyone slept in a bit.  When I got up, I had to talk to someone on the phone about a project.

I made lunch for the boys while Rachel and Lizzy went for a run.

Later in the afternoon, Evan had a Marauders practice.  It was the first practice since their last tournament.  It was a more informal practice and only half the team was there.  It was good to get back out and just get the boys back into it.  Evan seemed to have a good time.  He played well.  He made some good plays when he was shortstop.  He played shortstop, second base and third base.

After practice, we stopped at Smoothie King and got smoothies.

For dinner I ran out and picked up Chipotle for dinner.  Rachel made fudge while I was out as well as dinner for the boys.

The boys are now in bed.

Until next time..

Shaving a Cat

Late morning I dropped the boys off at Cole's house and then went to my muscle activation appointment.  On the way there I picked up a Kapoosh Hardwood Knife Block from the Container Store.

After my appointment I got the boys from Cole's house. They had a good time.

This afternoon Evan helped me give Calvin a haircut.  That was the first time I have tried to shave a cat.  It was pretty difficult.  He was good, but it was hard to keep him still.  Deborah said she shaved him each month before giving him his heartworm medicine.  I thought I would try.  I'm not sure if I'll try again.

Around 5pm we drove out to Chair King in Lakeway to look at outdoor furniture.  We ended up buying a patio table and chairs set and new table set for our kitchen as well.  We will have those delivered on Wednesday.

For dinner we went to Hill Country Pasta House.

We just got home. The boys are eating dessert and then we'll get them ready for bed.

Toys at Target

The boys have been asking me to go to Target, so we went today.  They had gift cards and tooth fairy money they wanted to use.  Noah got a Lego set.  Evan got baseball cards, football cards, and hockey cards.  After shopping I got them lunch at Target.  Noah had a hot dog.  Evan had pizza, and they both had Icees.

Tonight Evan had his first basketball practice.  He had a good time and Morry said he played well too.

Morry's on a phone meeting right now. When he gets off the phone we'll put the boys to bed.

Kickball

Hello everyone this is Morry.

All of us were up until nearly 1am last night.  We let the boys watch the ball drop.  Over night, the Tooth Fairy came to visit Noah who had lost his first tooth yesterday.

Evan woke up first this morning around 8am.  Noah woke up much later, closer to 10am.

Evan's friend Miles invited Evan to play in a kickball game his family was putting together.  Miles invited some of his second grade friends and Miles' sister invited some of her friends who are fourth graders.  The teams were a good mix up the two grades.  Evan seemed to have a really good time and made at least 7 outs playing shortstop.

When we got home, we watched some of the Rose Bowl.

After dinner, the boys had showers and now are in bed.

Until next time...
