Busy Summer Day

This morning Evan was picked up at 8:30 for baseball camp.

At 10:30 I took Noah over to Cole's house for a little bit.

Evan got home around 12:30 and the we went to pick up Noah.

We ate lunch.

I got some things done around the house.  I drove up to North Austin to pick up a back cushion (new product) that someone asked me try out.  It can go on a desk chair or in a car.

While I was gone Morry to took the boys to play some baseball.  Another father and son from Noah's team met them at the field.  Morry said Evan and Noah were not very well behaved.

We just had leftover pizza for dinner.

The boys are in the shower now.

Best Father's Day Ever

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

When I woke up this morning, Evan and Noah were already downstairs.  Noah asked if he could be a bat boy at the second day of the Marauders tournament.  I said yes.  I have an extra jersey which Noah wore.   I got both boys ready and we left to get to the field at 9:30.

In the first game, the Marauders continued to play great defense.  The other team did not score until the fourth inning when the game was pretty much in control.  Evan made a sliding catch on a fly ball to right field.  He had several hits in the game and was able to slide under a tag at home.  By winning that game, we locked up a spot in the championship game for the tournament.  Noah sat in the dug out and helped hang the bats up.

We had lunch at the fields and waited for the other semi-final game to play out.  The kids had a good time watching one a game from one of the older divisions.

The team won the other semi-final game was the #1 seed of the tournament.  They had a very good record and have been together for several years.  They had come up from San Antonio.  They had their own painted trailer to bring all the equipment.  To be honest, I didn't think we would have a chance.  But like all the other games, we came out and held them without a run in the first inning.  In fact, the team hit two straight singles and then hit three fly balls to the outfield that were all caught.   We scored 2 in the next inning to take a 2-0 lead and then again held them scoreless.  In the third, we scored 4 runs.  And in the bottom of the third, we again held them scoreless.  In the fourth, we scored 2 runs to take an 8-0 lead.  There is a run limit per inning of 7 runs.  If they didn't score a run in the bottom of the fourth then we wouldn't have a fifth inning because they wouldn't be able to come back.  But they got a chance to be down by less than 8 since they were the "home" team.  We gave up a single, then got an out, then gave up another single, and then got and out and then gave up another single but the outfield got the ball in quickly and the runner from second only got to third.  So based were loaded with two outs.  The boy up hit a ground ball to the third baseman who stepped on third to end the ball game and the Marauders won the tournament.  It was very very exciting.

They had a trophy ceremony after the game.  Evan was very excited to get a big trophy.  Rachel had gotten cookie cake for the team as well so the kids got cookie cake.

We came home and relaxed a bit and got cleaned off.

For dinner we went to a hibachi restaurant called Fujiyama.  All four of us really enjoyed it.  Evan had salmon and shrimp, Noah had steak and shrimp, Rachel had chicken and shrimp, and I had steak.

We're home now and the boys are in their rooms.

Until next time...

Two Games, Two Wins

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today, the Marauders had the first day of the CTX Father's Day Bash Tournament.  It is set up as most of the tournaments we have played in.  Saturday is a two game seeding.  Sunday begins a single elimination tournament based on the results from Saturday in terms of seeding.  Every time the Marauders have played, we haven't been able to put two games together.  There have been tournaments where we played one great game and one lousy game.  Or we've played two lousy games and then come out and played one well the next day.  But never two games together.

We didn't have to be at the fields until 11am.  It's about a 30 - 45 minute drive to the fields, so we needed to leave around 10:15.  The boys were up and playing with the Wii when I came downstairs.  I made lunch to bring for Evan and me because there was a gap between the two games.  I got the car ready to go and put sunscreen on Evan.

In the first game, the Marauders gave up 3 runs to the other team to start the game before getting an out.  That hit that knocked in the third run would be the last hit the team got in that game.  That, to me, is amazing.  It's not like the Marauders were pitching. This is coach pitch where the coach of that team is pitching trying to get the kids to hit the ball.  But the Marauders played such great defense.  Evan played well.  He played some catcher and some pitcher.  In his third at bat, he really crushed a ball over the left-center fielder's head.

We hung out and had our packed lunches in between.  The other game ended early so our game started early.  The Marauders didn't give up a run for the first two innings of the next game.  So the team ended up holding opposing teams to 5 straight shut out innings.  This game was closer but going into the top of the fifth with the Marauders up 9-7, the team came through with another shut out inning to win the game.  Evan wound up going 3-4 with and making several put outs.  Again the team played really well.

So the Marauders are the number two seed for tomorrow.  Based on that, they get a bye all the way to the semifinals.  So if they win their first game they will be in the championship.

Most of the team and their families went to Stanley's Farmhouse Pizza which is an old farm converted into a pizza place and brewery.  The place is huge but there is places for the kids to play and have fun.  You go up and order your pizza in an they text you when it's ready.  There is an old barn with picnic tables where you eat.  The food was good and the boys had a blast.

We now are home and the boys are about to go to bed.

Until next time...

Bagels with the Boys

Today we took the boys to Wholy Bagel.  Noah wanted just lox and capers, no bagel.   Evan got a sesame seed bagel.

We took it easy during the afternoon.  We were invited to the pool, but both boys seemed tired and we have a busy weekend coming up.

In the evening we went to the mall.  Morry and the boys needed some clothes for our trip.  While Morry was at Men's Wearhouse I took the boys to food court.

On the way home we picked up Torchy's for Morry and I.

We are trying to get the boys to bed so we can eat our dinner.

Oil Change

My car needed an oil change so this morning we went to get that taken care of.  While we were waiting we walked around the shopping center and got lunch at Texadelphia.  The boys were good and mostly well behaved.

We took it easy at home this afternoon.

For dinner we had leftover corned beef.

The boys are ready for bed now.

Busy day for Evan

This morning Evan had a dentist appointment to get 2 of his cavities fixed.  Noah came along since Morry wasn't home.  Evan did well, but complained some after about not feeling well.  I got the boys Slurpees on the way home and that seemed to help.

We took it easy this afternoon then Morry and Evan went to baseball practice for a scrimmage game.  I just got the call that they are on their way home.

Lizzy is 11

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today is Lizzy's 11th birthday.  When you see her run around the backyard, it's hard to believe she's that old.  The white around her eyes is a give away though.

Evan got up first this morning and then Noah got up.

There was a Pink Ribbon Cowgirls lunch at Whole Foods so Rachel took the boys.  They picked out an apple to eat and then some things from the bulk section.  Evan got sunflower seeds.  It must be some baseball thing.  They ate at their own table/bar while the women sat at their table.

After Whole Foods, the boys went over to Calvin's vet to get his heart worm/flea medicine.

Later in the afternoon, Rachel took Lizzy to get her annual check up.  They checked all of the little lumps she's been developing on her body.  The vet calls them "old lady bumps".  They are all ok.  She has a little thing on her eye which isn't anything bad but if it grows too much where it impairs her vision, it will have to be removed.  She has some arthritis in her back so we'll start to give her medicine for that.  But otherwise, she's pretty healthy.

We had corned beef for dinner.

The boys are in their rooms now.

Until next time...

I had a hair appointment an the boys stayed home with Morry.

For dinner we had hamburgers.

The boys are ready for bed, but still playing in their rooms.

Birthday Parties

This morning we were able to sleep in.  I went to Target and when I got back Noah and I went to a birthday party of a kid in his class.  The party was at the pool near us.  Noah had a good time and I enjoyed talking to one of our neighbors there.

While Noah and I were gone, Morry and Evan went to the baseball field to watch some of Evan's friends play in a baseball tournament.

We all met at home and then a little while later went to Sebastian's birthday party at the park.  That was nice too and it wasn't too hot sitting in the shade.

We ate dinner at home.

The boys just got out of the shower and are ready for bed now.  It's been a long day.

First Day of Summer Break

Hello Everyone, this is Morry.

I got up first this morning to start work.  Evan came down shortly after followed by Noah.  There was only one fight between the boys this morning.

Rachel and the boys made cookies in the morning.  Noah was having Cole over and they were going to decorate cookies so they were getting the cookies ready.  Evan was invited to Jake's house.  Jake is Evan's friend from baseball.  Jake and his family are moving to Albany so Jake invited a few friends over.

A little after 11, an arborist came to the house.  The peach tree we had bloomed flowers in spring but then never got leaves.  Unfortunately, she said it had died.  She said that peach trees have a short life span.  There was also evidence that insects had gotten to it.  She found "sawdust" on the ground and places where sap had come up where insects had gotten into it.  Also, we had a freeze after it had blossomed and she said that was bad for peach trees.  They are coming to remove it in about 10 days.  We are letting Evan pick out a new tree.

After the arborist left, I took Evan over to Jake's.  They were pulling out a slip and slide and so Evan had a bathing suit on.

Cole and Noah had a good time.

When I picked Evan up, they had a baseball game going in the cul-de-sac where Jake's house is.

Later in the afternoon, I played with the boys out in the front yard.

Rachel made pancakes for dinner.

The boys are in bed now.

Until next time...

Last Day of School and Perfect Noah

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today was the last day of school.  The boys were both up when I got up this morning and dressed.  They were excited to get to school for the last day.  It was especially important to Noah because it meant he had gone to school every single day of the school year.  That's right, Noah had perfect attendance for his first year of elementary school.  We are very proud of him for making it perfect through the whole year.

Rachel cleaned a bunch today and started preparing for the trip.

In the afternoon, when Rachel got back from tutoring, we drove to pick up the boys.  Noah gave Mr. Valdes a really big hug.  When he came over to us, he told us he wasn't happy.  I think for Noah it was bittersweet.  He's excited for summer, but he really enjoys school.

The boys got their report cards.  In Austin, for Kindergarten through 2nd grade, they grade the kids on a variety of things on a scale of 1 to 4 with 4 being excellent.  Noah continued the perfection theme by getting all 4's.  His second time in a row.  Evan also got all 4's, his second time this year.

When Evan came over, he seemed excited for the end of the year.  I think he likes being with his friends at school, but the school part of school he could take it or leave it.

Later in the afternoon, Evan and Noah went over to Jack's house to swim.  They both had a good time.

We picked the boys up and then went to the Galleria.  We went to Zingers for dinner.  It's a family sports bar.  It's near Dick's which is why we went there.  We thought the kids would like watching the sports.  We asked them to put on the MLB draft on the tv nearest us.  The service was really poor and everything took awhile.  The food was good though.

We walked to Dick's and I got some shoes.  Rachel talked to someone there who had great suggestions for Rachel's feet.  We got a few other things as well.

We are home and the boys are ready for bed.

Until next time...

Kinder Graduation

This morning we walked the boys to school.

At 10:15 Noah had his kindergarten graduation.  His teacher passed out certificates and kids sang a song for us.  We all went outside to have a picnic lunch.  It was nice.

I tutored at 1pm,  came home, and then we went to pick up the boys from school.

For dinner we had leftover pizza.

Here are a few pictures from today.

Getting Closer

This morning we drove the boys to school.

I took Lizzy for a walk, went to HEB, and made pizza dough for tonight.

I ate lunch and then left to tutor.

When I got home Morry and I drove to pick up the boys.

For dinner we made pizza and roasted garlic on the grill.  It turned out well.  The boys ate a ton of the baguette I got for the garlic, but of course they wouldn't try the garlic.

Soon we'll get the boys ready for bed.

Marauders Tournament #2: Day 2

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The day started very early this morning.  I got up at 5:45am so I could get some things ready before Evan's alarm went off at 6.  I got some breakfast ready for Evan, got his uniform ready and started getting the car ready.  We left the house around 6:25am.  Of course we stopped at Donut Taco Palace on the way.

With no traffic, we got to the fields quickly and early.  Evan wanted me to throw batting practice to him.  I threw him about 50 pitches before everyone got there and the other coach started pitching to everyone.

We were playing a team that scored the fewest runs in the tournament yesterday.  Through the first two innings it seemed obvious why.  They just weren't hitting.  But in the third, their bats broke out.  They hit three home runs over the fence accounting for 8 runs.  They hit several balls off the fence.  We played well but we weren't hitting the ball like that.  Evan played well again.  He seemed to have no effects from being hit in the face and fielded several balls cleanly at second base as well as in left field.  He had another hard hit line drive single into the outfield.  The outfielders in these tournaments are so much better than during the season.  These were the balls that would be played such that they would get past the outfielder and Evan would race around for a triple or home run.  But instead, they held Evan to singles.  In the end the other team's bats just were too much and the Marauders lost.

When we got home, Uncle Marvin and Aunt Sandy came over.  They are putting money down on a house being built about 10 minutes from us.  They will be moving in to their house around mid-late July.  We drove over to the house and walked through it as it was being built.  The boys thought that was really neat.

Afterwards, we had lunch and the boys watched the Gremlins.

At 3:30 we went over to a pool in another development.  It was our end-of-season party for the Rockies.  It was good seeing all the parents.  The kids had a blast in the pool.  I enjoyed talking to all the parents.  I handed out trophies to the kids and they kids made a banner for me which was nice.  The parents chipped in and got me a gift card.  We had a good time.

The boys are in their rooms now.

Until next time...
