Very Late Sunday Night

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

On Sunday, Evan, Noah, and I went up to Taylor around 9am.  Evan's first game was at 11:30.  He needed to be there at 10:15 and we were stopping to get donuts.

Rachel left shortly after us for a funeral service for a friend of hers from the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls.

Evan's first game went great.  They won and Evan had a great game.  He was 2-2 with a triple and a HBP.  He made his largest impact behind the plate.  He threw two runners out trying to steal second.  Both were in critical times where the other team had put their first batter on base.  He also caught a foul pop up behind the plate for the second out in the last inning.

After that, we went to get pizza for lunch.

In the second game, Evan caught again.  They were playing the number one seed.  Evan didn't get to throw anyone out but he played well again.  With the opposing team trying to make a late comeback, Evan caught a foul pop up against the net behind home plate and almost fell over but managed to hold on to the ball to end the game.

They immediately had a third game - the semifinal.  Again TRPD jumped out to an early lead.  Evan played third base in order to give him a break.  But with the score 7-3, they brought in Evan to get out of a bases loaded jam.  He was able to get the out.  He pitched another inning where there was an error that led to two runs, but he was able to force a double play to get out of the inning with the score 7-5.  He batted in the bottom of that inning and got hit by a pitch but it was enough time for the game to end and they were on to the championship.

Fifteen minutes later, the championship started.  TRPD jumped out to a 4-0.  Evan drove in a run and scored the fourth run.  The TRPD defense had a mini-meltdown in the fourth allowing the score to be tied.  In the fifth, they brought Evan into pitch again.  He walked a batter and gave up a bloop hit.  With runners at 2nd and 3rd with no outs, Evan induced three straight grounders back to him which should have ended the inning with no runs scoring.  Unfortunately, there was another defensive mistake that allowed the winning run to score.  TRPD was able to bat again but wasn't able to score anything.  But coming in second in a 21-team tournament was pretty good.  Especially playing 3 straight games.

Noah was there with us the whole time.  Angelo's brother Tony was there for the first game, but after that, he was with me the whole time.  He never complained. He helped me score.  He helped out the coaches some.  He was a trooper.

We finally got home at 10:30 last night.

We let Evan stay home from school today. Noah has perfect attendance and didn't want to break that.  I let him sleep as long as I could before waking him up.

Rachel went to teach and Evan came with me into the office.

Evan went to Grandma and Papa's for dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

Opposite sides of town

This morning we were able to somewhat take it easy.  Morry and Evan left the house around 11am for baseball games in Taylor (an hour away, up north).  Noah and I left about 1pm to get to his football game downtown.

Noah's team lost the game, but Noah played well.

After the game, we just came home since Noah was pretty hot.

I was busy all afternoon mostly just doing things around the house.

Evan and Morry got home around 6:30.

We ate dinner at home and then went to Sweet Caroline's for dessert.

The boys are playing video games now.

Annual Checkup

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The boys needed to have their annual checkups.  I scheduled them for today but I could only get a mid-morning appointment.  I ended up picking each up from school and taking them to the appointment.

Both boys are healthy.  Evan is still just above average in height and weight.  Noah is just below average in both.  Evan had to have some vaccines today.  Everything was normal and healthy.

After I dropped the boys off, I went home for lunch and then went into the office.

When Rachel was finished with teaching, she went to a Girl Scouts Luncheon that she was invited to as part of her deal with Charles Maund Toyota.  They bought a table and invited Rachel to join them.

Rachel picked Noah up from school.  Our office had a team building event so I didn't come home.  We went to a rock climbing gym.

I got home in time for dinner and the boys were outside playing with some of the neighbors.

For dinner the boys had waffles, and Rachel and I ate our own things.

The boys are upstairs playing on the Playstation now and Rachel is taking pictures for a product that was sent to her.

Until next time...

Lots of Meetings

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I took Chewie on a long walk after dropping Noah off at school.  Chewie seems to be building up stamina.  We're going to need to take him for longer and longer walks.

When we got home, I immediately showered and left to go into the office. We were interviewing our last candidate before we made a decision.

I left the interview to leave a bit early to go to a client and have a meeting with them. It was a good meeting and I think we got things kicked off.

From there, I met Daniel for lunch at a place called Kerlin's BBQ.  We had a nice time.

I came home and had two phone meetings back-to-back.  Rachel came home from teaching and walked to get Noah.  She didn't bring Chewie.  He stayed with me.

Rachel took Noah to the book fair and got him the book, Ready Player One.

Cooper's mom picked Evan up from school and brought him directly to practice.  She dropped him off after practice.

We had tacos for dinner.

The boys will be getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Non-stop Sports

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We didn't have to be anywhere early this morning so we got to sleep in some.  Our first event was Noah's flag football game which started at noon.  Around 9:45, Evan and I took Chewie for a long walk.  We wanted to tire him out before we put him back in his crate.

Rachel got lunch together and while we were walking.

I took Noah to his warm up before the game.  Rachel and Evan met us later.

Noah's team shut out their opponent for the second week in a row.  Noah was a force on defense.  They had him blitzing on every play.  In the first series, he pulled a flag on the running back behind the line to force a turnover on downs.  The opposing team started to fake handoffs just to slow Noah down some.  He really played well.  He didn't do much on offense, but his defense was excellent.

From there, we went to Taylor for Evan's games.  It was Evan's first game back after his injury last week.  He started at catcher.  He played really well.  The opposing coach told our coach how good he thought Evan was at catcher.  Evan went 2-2 in the first game with two singles.  The team played badly but Evan played well.

In the second game, Evan played centerfield and he came in to pitch.  When he was in centerfield, he got a ball off the fence just to the left of dead center and threw it to third on the fly to get the runner trying to get a triple.  Unfortunately, the first baseman was called for interference as the runner was rounding first so the throw didn't count.  Evan went 1-2 with a double in that game.  On the season, between the both teams, Evan is batting 23-for-41which is a .561 average.

After the games, we drove down and met Rachel at Lupe Tortilla for dinner.  The boys ate really well.  The food was good.

We're home and the boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Nothing After School

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel left for school after we walked Noah to school.  I stayed and worked from home all day today.

I had two meetings in the morning.  Then I met Rachel at Wholy Bagel for lunch.  Rachel didn't have anything scheduled after lunch so she came home.

Chewie's favorite part of the day is the walk to pick up Noah after school.  Today was no exception.  He gets so excited and pulls so hard at that time of the day.  One of the girls who likes to pet him didn't get to stay long but he still got a bunch of attention.

I had a phone meeting after pick up.

For dinner, we just had some leftovers.

The boys are playing Fortnite now.  They'll be getting ready for bed soon.

Until next time...

Middle of the Week

This morning we walked Noah to school.

Shortly after we got back I left for my school since we had a staff meeting.

I got home around 2:30 and then Morry and I walked with Chewie to get Noah.

Noah went straight to Grandma and Papa's house and was there until after dinner.

Morry took Evan to Cooper's house right after school so they could go to baseball practice.

While Evan was at baseball, Morry went to Costco to pick up a few things.

Morry and I ate ribs for dinner and then walked to Grandma and Papa's to get Noah.

Now, it's time for the kids to get ready for bed.  They are playing the video game, Fortnite now and are super into it.

New Dog Gate

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Our walks to take Noah to school in the morning go very quickly now.  Chewie pulls so much that we walk very fast.  It's certainly faster than Lizzy towards the end as she walked quite slowly.

Rachel went into work when we got home.  I left for the office a bit later.  We had someone coming in for a job interview and I had another meeting in the afternoon.

Rachel had a doctors appointment at the time we would get Noah, so I went by myself to get Noah.  Chewie was surrounded by four kids at one point.  He was so happy.  As we walked home, a car drove by us and a boy yelled "Hi Chewie!" out the car window (not one who had been petting Chewie.  Noah said he thinks all the kids at the school know Chewie.

Rachel stopped home for a few minutes before she left to go tutor.

We found a gate that we can put up between the kitchen and laundry room that has a cat door built in.  That way the cats don't have to jump over the gate, they can go through the cat door.  But we can keep Chewie out of the laundry room.  I put that up this afternoon.  So far, so good.

While Rachel was tutoring, the boys and I watched The Usual Suspects.  I think they liked it.

We had pasta for dinner.

The boys will be getting ready for bed soon.

Until next time...

Everyone's recovering

We were all recovering from the busy weekend today.  Evan is still pretty sore from his hit yesterday and we are all pretty tired.

We walked Chewie to school today.

I went to my school and between classes, I tried to get my blood test done (for an upcoming dr. appt).  I drove to the lab and there was an hour wait.  I was not able to wait that long so had to leave.  Instead, I did grocery shopping during my break.

On the way home I had to stop to get my blood drawn at a different location and was not able to make it back in time to pick up Noah.

Morry and Chewie walked to get Noah from school.

I got home right before they did.

After Evan got home he went over to Grandma and Papa's house.

My tutoring got moved to tomorrow, so I didn't have to go anywhere this afternoon.

For dinner, we had hamburgers.

After dinner, we took Chewie over to Grandma and Papa's to pick up Evan.

Now the boys are getting ready for bed.

Dallas Weekend

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

After Evan got home from school on Friday, he and I drove to the Dallas-area (Cedar Hill) for another tournament.  Rachel and Noah stayed home to spend time with Uncle Mike, Aunt Jen, Maya and Artie.

When we got there, we went with some other families to dinner.  We enjoyed ourselves.  The food was good and the company was nice.

Their first game was at 11:30 on Saturday morning.  It was cold and very windy.  The wind was blowing so strong, the boys' hats would blow off.  It actually affected the pitches being thrown.  Several kids looked like they were throwing sliders when in reality, the wind was just pushing the ball.  Evan did great.  He caught most of the first game and pitched two innings in the second game.  He was 3-4 with two doubles.  His team went 1-1.

Noah had a flag football game. Uncle Mike and Aunt Jen were at a wedding so Grandma and Papa were taking care of Artie and Maya.  They all came to Noah's game.  Noah pulled several flags.  His team won 24-0.  After that, they stopped at Sweet Caroline's for a post-game snack.  Later in the afternoon they went to the Umlauf Sculpture Garden.  The Garden had a scavenger hunt to find statues.  The kids enjoyed it.  Noah stayed over with Maya and Artie to keep them company.  Grandma and Papa said it was like having an extra adult because Noah could entertain the younger kids and make sure they were ok.

This morning, Evan's game was also at 11:30.  He struck out in his first at-bat, though he fouled off a number of pitches before he couldn't catch up to a fastball.  He started at catcher.  The second batter of the game grounded out and in the process threw his bat back and hit Evan with the bat.  The game was delayed a bit while Evan tried to work the pain out of his shoulder.  Two batters later, a very large kid - probably 5'9 or 5'10 crushed a ball to the fence.  There was going to be a play at the plate.  The ball and kid arrived at the same time and as Evan reached to catch the ball and apply the tag, the boy slid and took Evan's legs out from under him.  It caused Evan to flip in the air and come down hard.  Some people say that Evan flipped twice.  My memory is that he flipped on a couple different axes.  In any event, some part of the boy rammed into Evan's thigh and he wasn't able to put weight on his left leg.  He had to come out of the game.  He still is having trouble putting too much weight on his leg.  However, because he had already batted, and the team was batting 10 batters, Evan had to come to bat again.  Batting was not the problem, it was running bases and they could not pinch run for him if he got on base.  Evan had a good at-bat and worked the count full.  He fouled off a couple of pitches only to eventually reach base by - being hit by a pitch.  Yes, the kid could not catch a break.  He hobbled down to first and barely took a lead because there was no way he could steal.  Just then the batter behind him crushed a ball to the fence which ended up being a triple.  Poor Evan ran as hard as he could and ended up scoring.  You could tell as he was running he was in pain.  But he did it.  The whole game, coaches and parents from all over the complex were coming to tell Evan how tough he was.  After he ran the bases like that, some parent from another team that wasn't playing came over and said "Hey 21, that was awesome.  You are one tough kid"  Evan's team lost 3-2.

Before we drove home, we joined the 13U team for lunch at Chili's.

Rachel and Chewie joined Grandma, Papa, Artie and Maya at Lady Bird Lake.  First Rachel took Chewie to the dog park.  Then she jogged with Chewie to meet everyone else.  Then they took Chewie back to the dog park for a bit.

When Evan and I got home, we went with Grandma and Papa to Tarbouch.  Uncle Mike and Aunt Jen and family had left by then.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Chewie's Pooptastrophe

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I thought about going for a walk with Chewie when we got home from taking Noah to school, but I had a busy day so we decided not to do that.

I left the house before Rachel left to get to the office.  We had another phone interview with a potential candidate.

I got home about 20 minutes before we needed to leave to get Noah.  When I got in the house I smelled a bad smell.  I hoped it was the cat's litter box but when I looked in, there was nothing unusual.  As I walked over to Chewie's crate.  I saw the source of the smell - all over the bottom of Chewie's crate.  Chewie looked so sad as well.  He had been forced to sit in it.  What made it worse was when I let him out of the crate to get him outside, he shook.  Needless to say, we had to clean the back of the couch, the floor, the walls, my pants.  I felt bad because he seemed so upset.  He knew he wasn't supposed to do that, but obviously, he couldn't help it.

Chewie's crate is now outside. I hosed it down and Rachel disinfected it.  We'll let it dry overnight.

I did a cursory cleanup, first, before Uncle Mike, Aunt Jen, Artie and Maya got to the house. They wanted to walk with us to get Noah.   Then Rachel and I did the more extensive cleaning when we got back.

When Evan got home, we left for baseball practice.  Rachel went to tutoring and then a meeting with another blogger.  Noah went over to Grandma and Papa's house.

Rachel had dinner with the other blogger, while Evan and I ate at Mod Pizza.

We had pineapple at Grandma and Papa's when we picked Noah up.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Hamilton Pool

This morning we walked with Chewie to school.

I didn't have work today since the school took the kids to Houston for a field trip.

I went to the Pink Ribbon Cowgirls lunch at Whole Foods.

Then, in the afternoon I went with Michael's family, Grandma, Papa, Aaron's family, and Michael's friend Scott to Hamilton Pool.  We had a nice time.

After that Morry and the boys met us all at Stubb's Graceland for dinner.  We had barbecue and sat outside.  The kids got to run around a play on the playground.   We all had a good time.

Now the boys are getting ready for bed.

Here are some pictures from today.

And here are pictures from the finish line at the Cap10K that were emailed to me.

Make Your Own Pizzas

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Rachel and I took Chewie on a two mile walk this morning after dropping Noah off at school.  It was good for Chewie to get a good walk in for the day.

Rachel went into teach and I went into the office.  I was doing some phone screens for potential new hires.

Rachel and I got home at the same time.  Rachel stayed to make dough for pizza tonight while I walked to get Noah.  Chewie, again, was the center of attention from the kids.  A father came over and pet Chewie as well.  Chewie just collapses to the ground and lets everyone pet his stomach.

Uncle Mike, Aunt Jen, Maya, Artie, Papa and Grandma came over for dinner.  Everyone made their own personal-sized pizza.  We had a number of toppings to choose from.  After dinner we had dessert that everyone brought over.

Rachel and Chewie walked with everyone back to Grandma and Papa's.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Fit Family

This morning Evan and Morry left the house around 6am for two baseball games.

Noah and I left a little bit later for Cap10K.  Noah's been really looking forward to this 6.2 mile run, though we hadn't done any training for it.  Yesterday, Noah was complaining about his allergies and I was thinking he might not want to go this morning.  When I woke him up, he basically jumped up and said, "Let's go."

We got to the race around 8am, but we didn't start until about 8:30am.  There were around 23,000 people there and they had staggering start times.

Noah did really well.  We walked a little bit but did run for a lot of time.  It was really hilly too.

At the finish line, everyone got medals.  We finished in 1hr 17 minutes, which was faster than I thought we would do.

After the run, we stopped and got juices at The Soup Peddler.

We got home around 11am and Morry and Evan got home shortly after.  Since Evan's team lost the first two games, they were done for the day.

Noah went to Jude's house this afternoon for a little while and then Evan and Noah went to Sunday school.

Michael, Jen, Maya, and Artie arrived tonight so we all had dinner at Grandma and Papa's house.

Now the boys are getting ready for bed.

Here are some pictures from today.

Evan's Birthday and Rain

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

On Thursday, we celebrated Evan's 12th birthday.  For the first time since he went to school, Rachel and I couldn't meet him for lunch.  I think parents are allowed to meet their kids for lunch, but I think it would be weird for us to go into the school with a 6th grader.  After school, we drove up to Round Rock to see the Express play.  Grandma came with us and Papa met us there.  Both boys had a good time but Evan especially.  His former coach, Oscar, who now works for the Express got his name on the board for the birthday list.  Evan was able to get 3 baseballs.  And the boys got on the jumbotron 4 times.

Yesterday was an uneventful day.  Evan had practice at night for baseball.  I took him to practice.  Noah had football practice at the same time.  Rachel was able to take him.  We had Torchy's for dinner.

This morning, Evan had an 8am game in Pflugerville.  I woke up at 5:40 to take him.  I got things ready, got his water ready and woke him up.  Just before we were going to leave and I saw that the day was cancelled.  Apparently there were thunderstorms overnight that I slept through.  Evan still wanted to get donuts so we did.  Then we came home and went back to sleep.

Noah had a 1pm football game.  The cold front that came through overnight brought the temperatures down to 40 degrees.  It was a cold and miserable day to be out watching Noah play.  Rachel stayed in the car for most of it.  We did bring Chewie.  Noah played well considering the temperatures.  He had several sacks.  Any time the other team tried to throw, Noah was making it difficult on the quarterback.  His team lost, unfortunately.

We drove the van to the game and it warned us that the battery was going.  When we got home, Rachel took the van back out and got it replace.  The boys and I stayed home and watched a movie.

For dinner, we brought Me Con Bistro home.  Then we watched Timeless.

The boys are going to bed.

Until next time...

Still Recovering From a Late Night

The kids were pretty tired yesterday.

This morning was a little better for everyone, though Morry had to get up early to work.

We walked Noah to school and then I left to teach.

During my break, I went to get a passport photo taken since I need to renew my passport.

On my way home I stopped at Petsmart to get more food and rawhide bones for Chewie.

We walked to get Noah from school.

I rested this afternoon.  I didn't have tutoring.  My allergies have been bad and I really needed to rest.

Noah worked on his new Lego set while Evan was at baseball practice.

When Evan got home we had dinner.

Now Evan is working on homework and Noah is working on Legos.

Soon, the boys will get ready for bed.

Champions

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Last night, we drove to San Antonio to see the NCAA Basketball Championship.  Villanova was playing against Michigan.  With Villanova playing so close to us, Rachel and I decided we had to take the boys and experience everything.  We bought the tickets from a broker on Sunday.  They had a booth set up at a bar to pick up the tickets on Monday near the stadium.  We hit traffic driving down, which we assumed we'd hit.  Once we got there, we were able to get parking fairly easily.  We walked to the bar and got the tickets and then walked to a Denny's that was right near the stadium and ate.  It was, surprisingly, not crowded.  We ate quickly and walked to the stadium.

The stadium was very well organized and got you through security well before you'd give your tickets to get into the actual stadium.  The feeling in the area was like nothing I've ever felt at a sporting event.  Our seats were not bad.  We weren't far from mid-court and we were in the upper deck but in the 4th row.  We were able to see everything.  The boys loved it.  Evan kept taking pictures with his phone.  Noah told me how nervous he was.  When Villanova won, we were able to get Villanova Championship merchandise.  We also went to the lower level and watched some of the trophy presentation.

We got home around 1am.  The boys slept in the car on the way home.  Getting up was hard this morning, but the whole thing was worth it.  The experience was amazing.

Rachel had to teach and I went into the office.

Rachel didn't come with me to get Noah.  She wanted to get a little more rest.  Noah went to Grandma's after school.  Rachel tutored.

When Evan got home, I took him to TRPD for a pitching lesson.  He got some work in at catcher as well.

For dinner we had leftovers.

The boys will be getting ready for bed soon.

Until next time...
