We were able to relax this morning and sleep in. Evan slept until about 8am, which is late for him. Noah got up a little while later.
Later in the morning we went to Home Depot. There are a few things we have been needing, but we have been so busy the last few weeks, we didn't have time to go.
When we got home we had lunch.
This afternoon Morry had work to do. The boys played together and watched baseball movies while I did some cleaning.
For dinner we had pasta.
Morry and the boys just went over to the neighbor's house. She's selling cookie dough for a fundraiser and we said we'd buy some.
When they get back we'll get the boys ready for bed.
Evan does not have school tomorrow, but Noah does.
This morning both boys slept late. Evan slept until about 9:30 and Noah slept until almost 10. I let them both sleep because I knew they needed it.
Evan and I dropped Noah off at school and then came back home. I got some stuff done around the house. Evan played with his water gun in the backyard. Somehow he soaked himself (on purpose) and had to come in and change clothes.
After we got Noah from school we went to my eye doctor to order my glasses. On the way home we picked up the pottery Morry and I decorated for our anniversary.
Blanca came over at 3:45 so I could go to my hair appointment.
Morry came home and then Grandma and Papa arrived.
Morry and the boys went to a swim party at Jack's house.
I got home around 6:30 and the Morry and the boys came back around 7:00.
We all went to dinner at Trudy's.
While getting ready for bed tonight, Noah wanted to read to us. He read most of the book Green Eggs and Ham with just a little bit of help. He was really sounding out words and remembering words he had read before. He did a great job. He read 34 pages and then decided to finish the rest of the book tomorrow.
Today Noah didn't get to school until about 10am. He fell asleep really late last night and was still sleeping in this morning. I let him sleep until about 9:30am and woke him up for school.
Noah had a good day at school.
He stayed at home while I picked Evan up from school.
Around 4pm Evan's friend Jax and his mom, Anita came over. The boys all had a great time. They played outside some and then were doing a lot of running around upstairs.
After Jax left Evan wanted to ride his bike. Evan rode his bike around the block. He's getting a lot better about starting up on his own. He has a little bit of problems starting on a hill, but for the most part he did a good job. He also needs to work on breaking. He tends to use his feet to stop the bike.
For dinner we had food from the neighborhood pool grill delivered to us.
This morning we were able to sleep in some. The boys woke up at their normal time, but they played pretty well together in the game room.
At lunchtime I went to a meeting. The Texas Rollergirls has a rec league and I went to find out more information. The meeting was packed and it was hard to hear since I was in the back. I'm trying to decide if I want to join. There's not an easy way to try it out since there's a lot of equipment you have to buy (skates, pads, helmet, etc). I'm going to see if I can get some cheap or used ones so I can try it out and see if I like it.
While I was at the meeting Morry took the boys to the Wildflower Park and then McDonalds for lunch. I met them at McDonald's on my way home, but didn't eat there.
The Steelers played this afternoon and they lost. So, there's no more football in this house until next season.
The boys and I picked up Papa John's pizza while Morry finished watching the game.
We had clean up night tonight. Evan gave us a really hard time and he didn't get his dessert. Noah cleaned up well and he's eating his shaved ice (that I made at home).
Evan's in bed and I'm about to get Noah ready for bed.
This morning Morry let me sleep in.I must have been really tired.I slept for a long time.
We took Evan and Noah to the gym around noon.We had planned on working out and then swimming. The boys had gotten up early this morning and we were worried about being out too long, so we decided just to go swimming and skip the workout. The outdoor pool was open. That was the first time we went out there.Evan and Noah played in the pool for a few minutes and then we ordered some food from the outdoor café.Noah got hotdog, Evan got peanut butter and jelly, Morry had chicken tenders, and I had a turkey sandwich.Once we finished eating, Evan and Noah played in the pool a little more.
When we got home we put Noah down for a nap.Evan watched tv downstairs.
For dinner we all had different things. Morry had leftover pizza, I had salad and meatballs, the boys had mac and cheese.
Evan and Noah played for a little while after dinner while we cleaned up.
We had a nice Thanksgiving.I hope you all had a great one as well.
I’m still in Dallas. Morry, the boys, and Lizzy went back to Austin yesterday.I’ll be flying home Wednesday.
I’m feeling a lot better.Last weekend was rough.Saturday was the worst.I was so achy I could hardly move.Sunday we shaved my head.It was both a physically and emotionally hard weekend.
Each day this week I started feeling better and better.I was able to eat some of the Thanksgiving dinner and enjoy Morry’s famous chocolate pie (cool whip and pudding).
Wednesday I had an appointment with my plastic surgeon.I had planned on getting expansions at that visit, but since I was on antibiotics and had a low grade fever earlier in the week he didn’t want to take any chances with infection.Everything looked good and the doctor was pleased with my progress. He asked how my skin was doing.I said great except the itchy scalp. The nurse suggested I shave my head completely bald. She said a lot of patients get relief once they do that.
My mom made an appointment for me with her stylist to get my hair shaved. When I got there he said he wasn’t licensed to shave, but could use the smallest clipper setting. It helped but I still wasn’t completely itch- free.
Later that night my dad shaved my head for me with his electric razor. I’m sure he never planned on ever needing to do that.Anyway, I’m feeling a lot better now.
Since Morry and the boys went home yesterday, we had a quiet relaxing evening, though I do miss having them around.I went to bed at 10:30 last night and slept until about 10:30 this morning.I can’t tell you the last time I was able to do that.I feel so much better today.I hardly have any nausea today and was able to eat a good brunch (my dad’s famous omelets).
Morry’s dad, Jack was here for Thanksgiving. Michael and Jen are still here and leave tomorrow. It’s been great hanging out with all of them.Evan and Noah really enjoyed playing with Zayde, and Uncle Mike and Aunt Jen.
Well, I hope I continue to feel better. My next chemo is scheduled for12/10.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving and weekend.
I just posted a video update with most of this info and a little more on YouTube here.
This morning I was able to sleep in some thanks to Morry and Grandma and Papa.
Papa went off to the Hillel meeting and Morry went to meet Marcin at Austin Java Company to do some work. Me, Mom/Grandma, Evan, Noah, and Aunt Susan were trying to do decide where to go for brunch/lunch. Morry suggested we come to Austin Java. We were worried it was going to be crowded, but we were easily able to find a table. Once we ordered I had Evan come with me to find a high chair. As we walked to the back of the restaurant we saw Morry. Evan seemed really confused, but excited to see Morry. We said hi and then went back to our table. Evan and Noah were pretty well behaved at lunch. Evan ate a little bit of pancake and Noah ate a ton of fruit. After we ate we all went outside to the patio for a little bit. Morry and Marcin met us out there toward the end.
When we got home both boys were tired and we put them down for naps. Neither one napped.
Before Grandma and Papa left we showed them Guitar Hero on the Wii.
We had an early dinner. We just made a fajita salad with stuff we happened to have in the house. We talked about going to the grocery store, but we were tired and knew the grocery store would be crowded as well.
After dinner, the boys played a little bit and watched a DVD of videos from when Evan was younger. Evan kept asking where Noah was in the video. We tried to explain Noah wasn’t born yet.
We put Evan and Noah to bed early, a little before 8pm. It seems to be quiet up there.
After we put them to bed, I took Lizzy for a 2 mile run.
This morning Evan came in our room at 6:45am. Morry got Evan set up and went back to sleep for a little bit. I was able to sleep in this morning. Morry took care of the boys and let me rest some.
For lunch, we took the boys to McDonalds. Morry said they had been really good this morning. Also, we didn’t feel like making lunch.
Evan and Noah did really well at McDonalds. Evan ate his nuggets, the apples, cookies, and apple juice. Noah just ate a few French fries and some apples. After we ate we went outside on the playground. Every time Evan disappeared in one of the tunnels, Noah would call out for him. There was another boy there a few years older than Evan. Evan followed the boy around everywhere.
When we got home we put they boys down for naps. They both slept well.
For dinner we had Asian pasta. Evan ate some macaroni and cheese. Noah ate a little bit of mac and cheese.
After dinner Morry took Evan and Noah outside in the backyard while I cleaned up. While they were out there Evan hit the baseball over the fence into our neighbor’s yard (Dingo’s family). Morry took the boys over to their house to get the ball back. Morry said when they went in their backyard Evan ran over and started playing on their playscape. And when they walked through the house Evan wanted to touch and see everything.
Evan and Noah are upstairs in their rooms, but neither one is asleep yet.
Not only is October tough because of all of the breast cancer awareness promotions, but it is also the anniversary of the beginning of my journey back in 2009.
Angelina says, "There is more than one way to deal with any health issue. The most important thing is to learn about the options and choose what is right for you personally." I appreciate Angelina Jolie and all of the others that have chosen to be open about their health and share personal details.
Shortly after I finished chemo, my feet started feeling like someone took a hammer to them. At first, I thought I had an injury or arthritis. I went to a podiatrist and a rheumatologist, but they couldn’t find anything noticeably wrong. My x-rays looked fine.
