Grandma and Papa in Austin

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning I had to wake Evan up to go to camp.  This was the first time I had to wake him up.  He's been awake and downstairs playing previously.  Rachel took Evan to camp.

Later in the morning, Rachel and Noah worked more on the garden.  Then the two of them went to Rachel's tutoring.

At lunch I went to pick Evan up for camp.  Darius wanted to go to lunch with Evan again so we joined Darius and his mom for lunch at Waterloo Ice House.  The two boys played on the playground until lunch as served.  Tomorrow, Darius' mom is going to take Evan and Darius out to lunch and a place called Jumpoline.

Around 4pm, Grandma and Papa arrived.  They are in town because they are flying out with Evan and Noah to go to Seattle to go camping this weekend.

We went to Uncle Marvin and Aunt Sandy's new house.  They closed on it yesterday and moved in it today.  It was very nice.  Evan was more interested in going in the large backyard.  From there we went to Trattoria Lisina for dinner.  The food was excellent as usual.

We came home, the boys showered and now they are in their rooms.

Until next time...

Busy Summer Day

This morning I dropped Evan off at camp.

Noah and I stayed at home.

I made Noah his lunch and then picked up Evan from camp.

When Evan and I got home I made Evan his lunch.  A little while later I left for tutoring.

When I got home all of us went to Target.

We had a late dinner of pasta and fruit.  We sat outside.

The boys are in their rooms now ready for bed.

Camp and Tutoring

This morning I dropped off Evan at camp.

Noah and I planted some fruit and vegetable seeds in the backyard.  We'll see if anything grows.

Noah came with me to tutoring.

Morry picked Evan up from camp while we were out.

For dinner we had leftover corned beef from last night, salad, and fruit.

We just got back from a walk.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Evan to Sports Camp

This morning I dropped Evan off at a sports camp at 8:30.  We asked Noah if he wanted to go too, but he didn't want to.

I was home for a little bit and then I left to tutor.

Morry and Noah picked up Evan from camp and then went to lunch with Evan's friend Darius and his mom.  After lunch, Darius came over to our house.

On my way home I stopped at HEB.

For dinner we had corned beef and corn on the cob.

We took a walk.

The boys are ready for bed and playing in the game room right now.

Walk and Flash Gaining Confidence

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning the boys came down and played Wii when they woke up.  When Rachel and I came downstairs we felt we should do something outside before it got too hot.  We drove over to the shopping center where Smoothie King is where they have a trail around it.  We brought Lizzy and took a walk along the trail.  At the end we got smoothies.  Lizzy came into the store with us since I knew the woman working there.

Later in the afternoon, the boys and I watched Lost World, which is Jurassic Park 2.  They liked it but not as much as the original.

After that, Rachel carried Flash downstairs.  She walked around downstairs with more confidence.  She and Calvin smelled each other at one point without any hissing.  Flash got on my lap while I was at my desk and climbed all over my desk and walked on my laptop keyboard.  She then went upstairs by herself.

For dinner, Rachel had some leftovers and I made some things for the boys and me.  We ate outside.

Then we drove to Rita's for dessert only to find that Rita's closed and is moving to way north Austin.  So we drove to a shaved ice play by the lake.  It wasn't nearly as good.

The boys are in their rooms now.

Until next time...

Mostly Easy Day

We mostly took it easy today.

Morry and Evan went to a memorial service.  Noah and I stayed home.

We had our yard sprayed for mosquitoes.  It's supposed to be a mostly natural spray made out of garlic.  We'll see if it really works.

Later in the afternoon we all went to CVS and then picked up dinner from Sap's.

We ate dinner outside and I only got a few mosquito bites.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Back to the Dentist

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Golf camp ended yesterday so we didn't have to get the boys ready for camp this morning.

At 11am, Evan had to go back to the dentist.  On our trip, two fillings fell out.  These fillings were fillings Evan received just before our trip.  We were not happy and ensured that the dentist would not charge us for having to go back.

I had to go to a meeting around lunch.  Then I had a meeting at the house at 1:30.

Rachel and the boys stopped at Wholy Bagel on the way home and picked up bagels.

Later in the afternoon, I took the boys to GameStop.  One of the games they had for the Wii U had stopped working.  I was able to trade the broken one in for a replacement so I didn't have to pay full price.  The woman was very nice and gave us a great deal.

We stopped at Yaghi's on the way home and picked up dinner.

After dinner, I went to a Rosary for the father of a boy that Evan played against in baseball.  This boy also filled in several times with the Marauders.  His father was killed in a car accident on Tuesday.  The funeral is tomorrow.  Evan will come with me to the funeral.

The boys are now in bed.

Until next time...

Meet Flash

We had talked about getting a kitten.  Calvin had fun with the kitten he stayed with while we were away on vacation.  The boys have been wanting a kitten and there are lots of animals out there that need homes.  If we were going to get a kitten we wanted it to be a rescue, shelter kitten.

I spent the last couple of days checking out a few foster homes though the shelter and cats at the shelter.  I narrowed it down to a few.

We did not let the boys know that we were thinking about getting a kitten.

When they came home from from camp yesterday we surprised them.  We told them we were going to check out some kittens and maybe even come home with one.  They were super excited.

First, we went to a foster home with 5 kittens from the same litter.

Then, we went to the animal shelter.

At the shelter there were lots of cats and kitten in cages. You could take out any to play with.  We played with a few.  The kids knew right away they wanted Flash.  Morry said he thinks they picked her out because she looks sort of like Mottel.  She purred when we held her and did not want to leave Evan's lap.

After all the paperwork and the adoption donation we were able to come home with Flash.

Right now, we have her confined to our room and our bathroom until she gets more used to us, the house, and the animals.

Here are a few pictures from yesterday.

First Day of Golf Camp

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, Rachel took Evan and Noah to their first day of golf camp.  They were in good moods before they left but they were acting a bit tired.  Jack and Audrey were at this camp too.  Rachel said Jack and Evan were excited to see each other.  Jack and Evan were in the same group.  Noah was in a group by himself, though I guess Audrey volunteered to be in Noah's group and got moved there.  They had a set of clubs for each child.

I went out around mid-day and met Aaron for a meeting.

When I came home, we left to pick up the boys.  We volunteered to pick up the kids in the afternoon and Jack and Audrey's dad will take the kids in the morning from now on.  When we got their all four kids looked very very hot but they all said they had a good time.  They played a bunch of golf.  Jack described something which I didn't quite understand where Evan was running so fast down a hill that he lost control and ended up rolling down the hill.  I'm not quite sure what happened but both boys thought it was funny.  They went swimming at the YMCA next door after lunch.  Evan and Jack went down the slide a bunch.

We dropped Jack and Audrey off at home and then went home.  The boys played Wii.

We had tacos for dinner and then went for a walk.  Evan is skating around the driveway in rollerblades while Noah is going around on his scooter.  Rachel is giving Lizzy a bath.

Until next time...

Chores

Hello everyone this is Morry.

When I woke up the boys and Rachel were already up which is unusual.  The boys were downstairs with the Wii.

I did a bit of work while the boys played and Rachel got brunch ready.

Rachel found an app that could keep track of chores/tasks that the boys do.  You can assigned monetary amounts for each thing.  So we came up with a set of tasks that the boys can do - some weekly, some daily, etc...  When they complete them they go to Rachel's iPad and check them off.  If we approve then that amount of money is registered with them.  If they misbehave we can go in and assess a penalty to them which would deduct some money from what they've earned.  At our discretion, they can cash out what they have earned and we can mark that they've cashed out.  The boys really liked this idea and have been super helpful today. We'll see how well that works long term.

In the afternoon, the boys and I went down to the cul-de-sac.  Evan skated around using Rachel's rollerblades and shot a ball into a makeshift hockey goal.

Later in the afternoon, we watched Jurassic Park.  The boys really enjoyed that.

Before dinner, we went to HEB and the boys picked out some things they'd like to bring to lunch.  This week the boys have golf camp.

We had dinner and then went for a walk.

The boys are upstairs now.

Until next time...

Full Day

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The day began very early this morning. Rachel had us set the alarm for 6 so we could set up for the garage sale.  We started putting things out on the driveway and then Rachel woke the boys up at 6:30 to help us out.

The garage sale went well.  I made popcorn and we sold sodas as well.  All the money from the sale of the popcorn, the sodas and any toys that were sold went to the boys.  They did very well and were happy.

After the garage sale, Rachel took the boys to a pool birthday party for Noah's friend.

They left that party early and came home and changed so we could go to Aaron's son's birthday party (Jeremy turned 2).

We came home and hung out a bit.  I ordered China Dynasty for dinner.

The boys are upstairs now.

Until next time...

Playdate After Camp

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Calvin was being quite loud this morning.  He woke both Rachel and Noah up.

Today was the last day of baseball camp.  On the way to camp, Noah told us that he wants to go there again next year.  I think both boys really enjoyed camp.

Rachel and I went to Wholy Bagel today.  We hadn't been there since before our trip.  The people working there were glad to see us.

On the way home, we stopped at the bank to deposit checks and pick up some cash for the garage sale tomorrow.

I had someone come over for a meeting in the afternoon.

Rachel went and picked up the boys and met two other boys from the camp and their moms at TCBY.  The boys are going to be fourth graders but they really enjoyed playing with Evan and Noah.  I met Rachel over there.  The women were very nice and it was nice to see the boys all running around.  One of Evan's teammates from the Marauders was there with his brother who is Noah's age.  Noah and the boy's brother would play together at the Marauders games.  So they joined in too.

We ran over to Target to get some birthday presents for some parties we are going to.  Then we stopped at Torchy's Tacos and picked up dinner.

The boys are showering now.

Until next time...

Another hot day at camp

This morning Morry and I took the boys to camp.  They both seem to really it.

While the boys were at camp, I got stuff ready for a garage sale.  A lot of our neighbors on our street are having a garage sale Saturday, so we are going to try to sell some things too.

I went to HEB and then picked the boys up from camp.

For dinner tonight we made pizza.

The boys are playing Legos together now.  Soon, they'll get ready for bed.

Rain and Humidity

We actually got some much needed rain last night and this morning.  It made the morning pretty humid though.

I dropped the boys off at camp.

I tutored at one house this afternoon.

Morry and I went together to pick up the boys.  Evan made friends with another boy (age 9 or 10) and they exchanged phone numbers.  We met the mom.  It turns out the boy lives pretty close to us.

For dinner we had leftover ribs from the other night and baked potato/sweet potato.

Noah is on the Wii and Evan is on his computer.  In a little bit we'll get them ready for bed.

Our Day

This morning the cleaning people came and Morry took the boys to camp.

I had an appointment with a new doctor here in Austin and Morry came with me.  It was at the same time as camp was ending, so we had Blanca pick up the boys from camp.

When we got back from the appointment we made dinner.  Morry made hamburgers on the grill.

The boys watched some baseball tonight on TV.

They are both still up, but should be sleeping.

Noah with a Walk Off

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today, Evan and Noah had their first day of baseball camp.  It's with a baseball training program here in Austin.  Evan and the Marauders went there for a pitching lesson before their kid pitch tournament.  The camp goes from 9am to 4pm.  I was a bit worried because of the heat.  We made sure the boys had plenty to drink.  Rachel and I dropped them off and they seemed excited.

Neither Rachel nor I had anything planned today.  Rachel ran out to HEB to get a few quick things.  Other than that, we stayed in.

When we went to pick Evan and Noah up, they were playing a baseball game - 3 on 3.  They weren't using a baseball.  It sounded like a rubber ball of some sort.  We saw Noah bat and get a single.  The boy who followed Noah got a double and Noah stayed at third.  When Evan came up, the instructor, who was pitching to them, said that if Evan knocked in both runs, then the game would be tied.  Evan doubled knocking in both runs.  Then Noah came back up to bat.  The instructor said that if Noah knocked Evan in, they would win.  Noah fouled off the first pitch down the third base line.  The next pitch he hit fair down the third base line scoring Evan for the win.  It was really nice to see Noah get some attention for that.  He was very happy.

The boys seemed to really enjoy the camp.  They are looking forward to going tomorrow.

We came home and I started to grill some ribs which we ate for dinner.

The boys are now in their rooms.

Until next time...

We're Baaaack

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We are finally back from our vacation.  We will be posting pictures later.

We had a good time at a wedding in Memphis, visiting Gatlinburg, TN and Williamsburg, VA.  After that we visited everyone in Philadelphia followed by a Bat Mitzvah in Pittsburgh.  We made a quick stop to see the Pirates in St. Louis, then a night in Tulsa, OK and then on to Dallas.

Rachel and Noah were gone for more than 3.5 weeks while Evan and I were gone 3 weeks exactly.

It is good to be back home.

Evan and Noah have baseball game tomorrow.

Until next time...
