Playgroup and Target

This morning Evan woke up early and watched a movie until I got up.

We had playgroup this morning. Evan, Noah, and I had a nice time. Evan and Noah played with the toys and I got to talk some with the other moms. We stayed at playgroup until about 12:30.

I took the boys to Target. I had a few things to return and I heard they had a good toy clearance sale. We got some toys including a Buzz Lightyear kite for $2.

After Target we came home and ate lunch.

Then, I put Evan and Noah down for naps. They both slept really well.

For dinner we went to Tony C’s Pizza in the Hill Country Galleria. We had to wait a while for our food, but it was good. As we were getting ready to leave, it started pouring down rain. Morry had to run and get the car and then pick us up outside the restaurant.

When we got home we cleaned up the toys downstairs and went upstairs to get Evan and Noah ready for bed. Noah is in bed now, but Evan is still up stalling. He keeps saying he needs to potty, but doesn’t go.

Last Day of School

Evan woke up early again and Morry got him set up in the game room before he left for work.

We were late getting to school this morning. Noah slept until about 9:30. I didn’t want to wake him up. I let him sleep until 9:30 and finally I woke him up so I could get Evan to school.

Riley came over from 10-12. Noah cried for about the first 30 minutes, but then he eventually calmed down. I did a lot of cleaning while Riley was here. It had been a while since the house was really cleaned. I cleaned the bathrooms, vacuumed and mopped the whole house, dusted, … I did that all in about the 2 hours Riley was here. I was really exhausted by the time she left. Right after Riley left, Noah and I went to Evan’s school. It was Evan’s last day of school (until September), so they had a little pizza party. Noah had a great time with all the big kids. He even sat at the table with them for lunch. After lunch the kids had cupcakes and cookies. Both Evan and Noah loved the cookies. Who knows how many Evan ate.

When we got home I put Evan and Noah down for naps. Noah fell asleep pretty much right away. It started raining (finally) pretty hard and we had some thunder and lightening. Evan got scared and didn’t want to take a nap, so I let him watch TV for a little bit. Then, I tried again to put him down for a nap, but he refused. I was really tired and needed a nap so, I let him watch tv in the game room while I tried to lie down. A few minutes later Evan was in our room because he heard thunder. I asked if he wanted to come in bed, but he said no. He ended up falling asleep on the floor in our room. As soon as Evan fell asleep Noah woke up.

I brought Noah downstairs and tried to fold laundry. It took me about 4 times as long as usual because Noah kept grabbing clothes I had already folded.

Evan got up and while Evan and Noah played I got dinner ready.

Morry came home and we had corned beef and potatoes for dinner.

For dessert we went to Wendy’s for Frosties. We had 2 $1 off coupons and a $5 gift card I had won a while ago, but just got in the mail a few days ago. So, we had free dessert and still have $1something left on the card.

We just put Evan and Noah to bed and it seems to be quiet.

Newflower at Night

Evan woke up crying for Morry around 6am. Morry got Evan set up in the game room and left for work. Evan came in our bedroom around 8am.

Once Noah got up and I got the boys dressed I took them for a run. It was very humid outside. That was a hard run. It seemed like it was going to rain, but we only got a few sprinkles later in the day.

Blanca came over at 10am. While she was here I went out to lunch with Melissa and ran a few errands. I went over to Famous Footwear to return some shoes we bought online. I also stopped by Old Navy. They were having a clearance sale where everything on clearance was an additional 50% off. I got some stuff for Morry and me, but the boys section was pretty picked over. I only got a pair of jeans for Evan.

When I got home around 2:00 I put Evan and Noah down for naps. They both slept well.

For dinner we made pasta.

After dinner we went over to Newflower. We needed some fruit and other groceries for the next few days. Evan and Noah were good there and enjoyed getting their free cookie. Noah managed to get his cookie all over his face and shirt.

When we got home Rita (Blanca’s mom) was outside. She came over and talked to us for a little bit in the driveway. Noah even let her hold him.

We came in, put the groceries away, and then gave the boys baths. They are now in bed and it seems to be quiet.

Evan’s New Underwear

After I dropped Evan off at school, Noah and I went to Target. Evan needed some new underwear. Not only was it getting too small, the underwear was falling apart. Strings and elastic were coming off of them. We got them at Kohls, so I didn’t want to go there again and get more that would fall apart.

Noah and I got a few things at Target including some new underwear for Evan. In the dollar section they had some footballs so I also picked one up for Evan. I wanted something to give him along with the underwear. I thought he might be disappointed if I said I bought him something and then he only got underwear.

When I brought Evan home from school he was throwing a fit about not wanting to go upstairs for a nap. I told him I bought something for him and it was on his bed. He was very excited and ran upstairs. He was happy to see the Batman underwear and the football. In fact, he wanted to wear his Batman underwear for nap. Normally he insists on wearing a pull up to bed.

Evan and Noah took good naps this afternoon.

For dinner, we ate leftover barbeque brisket from Rudy’s.

After dinner we took a walk.

The boys are playing now while Morry talks to his mom on the phone. In a few minutes we’ll take them upstairs and put them to bed.

Gridlock

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning I woke up and started the shower. As the shower was warming up, Evan came in the bathroom. He looked very out-of-it so I imagine he just woke up. He stayed in the bathroom while I got showered and dressed. We then went downstairs and got breakfast for him. We brought it upstairs and I got him settled on the couch. Most mornings when this happens, he runs over to the window when he hears the garage open and he waves goodbye to me. He will continue to wave until I completely drive off. But as I was getting him settled this morning, he informed me that he wasn't going to wave to me today because he wanted to stay where he was. I admit, I was disappointed.

Both boys have runny noses so Rachel stayed home with them today. They didn't really go anywhere. The boys went down for a nap around 1:30 or so and both boys napped which was good.

At 4:30, I heard that there was a SWAT standoff and Mopac and the Greenbelt, which is really at Mopac and 360. Then they said they had shut down all lanes on Mopac between 290 and 360. There is probably not a worse spot on my drive home than that spot. All ways home that I could think of basically go through that spot. I left almost immediately hoping to beat traffic. What a joke that was. It seems everyone heard the news and everyone left at the same time. Mopac was just stopped. For those of you who know Austin, I got off at 35th Street, then I made a left on Exposition and went south on Exposition which dropped me off at Lake Austin Boulevard. I made a right onto Lake Austin with the intention of making a left onto Red Bud Trail - to get over the river that way. It seems everyone else had that idea too. It took me forever to make that left. I finally got through that up to Westlake Boulevard which took me forever to turn on to. Then I got down to Bee Caves Road. It was here that I think I made the critical error. I could go right and take the long way home, but it's the one way to avoid Mopac. Or I could go left and head towards Mopac and then take the access road. I thought I could go that way and go onto Barton Skyway and take that to Lamar. It seemed like the first way was actually backed up so I chose heading towards Mopac. After awhile I was able to get on the access road and I made the left onto Barton Skyway only to discover that Barton Skyway was never completed between Lamar and Mopac. All it did was take me in a loop back to Mopac, but heading north!! I then got on to Mopac heading north with the intention of getting off at Cesar Chavez and then continuing east until S. Congress and then going that way. Again, everyone else had the same idea and it was just a parking lot. I finally gave up and went to Mangia's Pizza on Lake Austin Boulevard (where I had been about 30 minutes before) until they finally opened Mopac back up. I didn't get home until 7pm. It was a long day.

When I got home Rachel, Evan and Noah were sitting on the couch watching My Girl. They all looked very cute. They were so into it, neither boy got up to say hello which is pretty rare. I went and sat on the couch with them for a bit.

Both boys are in bed now. I hope Evan stays in bed. I told him that if we called Nolan or Quin they would tell him to stay in bed. We'll see if that works.

Until next time...

Walk and Smoothies

This morning I took care of the boys and let Morry sleep some.

Evan, Noah, and I came downstairs. I cut up some fruit for them for breakfast and then made some cinnamon rolls (opened a can and put in the oven).

When Morry came downstairs we ate the cinnamon rolls and then got ready to go take a walk.

We walked around the shopping center where Costco is. They have a nice little path around the center. After walking, we got smoothies. I had won 2 free ones last week because I followed them on Twitter. We got our 2 smoothies and bought one more for the boys to split.

On the way home we stopped at CVS so that I could run in a buy a few things.

When we got home we put the boys down for naps. They both took good naps.

For dinner we had leftover fajitas from last night. It was nice not having to make anything for diner.

After dinner, Evan said he wanted to go somewhere for dessert. We decided to make ice cream instead. We made the ice cream in baggies which worked out really well. Morry did most of the shaking.

We just gave the boys baths and put them to bed. I hear Evan moving around in the hallway upstairs. I need to go up there and check on him and get him back in bed.

G-Force

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning we planned on going to see G-Force at the movie theater. Evan had seen the previews and wanted to go. So we knew we had to get going on the earlier side. Around 8am, while we were still sleeping, the phone rang. It was the vet calling with Mottel's blood test results. The results were negative so he is not vitamin B-12 deficient and he won't need any more B-12 shots.

We were able to get going and go out of the house when we had planned to leave. I had set that as a target time figuring that we not make that and so buffer was built-in. So we got to the mall early where the movie was playing. We bought the tickets and Evan and Noah played with the fire truck strollers that you can rent at the mall. Also there was a photo booth which Evan said was his spaceship. After a while, we went into the theater and Evan and Noah pretended to play with the video games while Rachel held seats for us as well as Aunt Susan, Aunt Donna and Leslie. 5 minute before the movie I brought the boys in and then went and got popcorn for us.

The movie was pretty stupid. I knew it would be. But I think Evan enjoyed it. Noah did pretty well there too. Both boys ate a bunch of popcorn. I also had soda (we had a coupon for free popcorn with the purchase of a soda) and Evan kept grabbing my soda when I wasn't looking and drinking it. It was Coke.

Before the movie, there was a preview for Toy Story 3. It was the same teaser trailer that Evan had seen at home. Nevertheless, Evan was mesmerized while it was playing. As soon as it was over, Evan looked over at me with a huge smile. I think I'm getting just as excited as him to go see it. The thing is I'm excited to see Evan see the movie. In October, they are re-releasing Toy Story and Toy Story 2. Obviously, we'll take the boys to go see them.

After the movie, we went to Rudy's with everyone. The food was good but I think the boys were starting to get very tired. Evan was very antsy.

On the way home, Evan fell asleep. That is really bad news because Evan doesn't transfer. Once you wake him up, he won't go back to sleep. That was the case today as he didn't nap. Noah took a good nap though.

After naps, Barry, Lisa and Lincoln came over. Evan was very excited to have Lincoln over. He said he was going to show Lincoln all his toys. The boys seemed to play together well. I made chicken fajitas and we had salad. I made Spanish rice in the steamer but forgot to put water in the steamer. So there was no steam to cook the rice. In my defense, I was doing about 50 things at once, but still that's a pretty obvious thing. For dessert, Lisa made brownies and chocolate fondue. She brought fruit also. Evan ate the fruit and had a brownie. Noah also ate some fruit and part of a brownie.

After dinner, I helped Lisa with the Content Management System that someone set up for her, for her website. It was not at all intuitive. I think I had it figured out, at least one part of it, when they left. Hopefully that helps her out a bit.

We put the boys down to bed, but Evan is out of his room saying he needs to go potty. Rachel is dealing with him.

Until next time...

Mc Donalds

This morning, after Morry got ready for work he went to check on Evan, who he thought was sleeping in his room. When Morry walked in the hallway he saw Evan lying there by the gate. Morry was going to quietly walk by and go downstairs, but Evan saw him and asked for a movie. Morry got Evan set up with a movie and breakfast and then went to work. Evan didn’t come in our room until about 9:30am. Noah woke up around that time.

For lunch, we met Morry at work and then ate at McDonalds. There is a McDonalds right across the street from Morry’s office. After we ate, the boys played on thee playground there for a little bit. Evan climbed to the top all by himself. Noah enjoyed playing on the first level.

After lunch, we dropped Morry off and went home for naps. Neither kid napped. I tried putting them both down. Evan started making so much noise in his room I had to let him out so he wouldn’t distract Noah. Noah just would not go to sleep.

For dinner we went to a sandwich place called Southside Subs. While we were eating two constables (who Evan called policemen) came in to eat. Evan waved at them while they walked by us. On the way out, one of them stopped to talk to Evan. He went to his car and then came back in again. The constable came over to the table to give the boys badge stickers.

On the way home we stopped at HEB to get some food for tomorrow. We are having Barry, Lisa, and Lincoln over for dinner tomorrow.

We just put the boys to bed, but Evan is still up in the hallway or bathroom.

Long Day

Evan woke up early again this morning. Morry got him set up in the gameroom. I stayed in bed for a little bit and then dressed Evan and Noah and got them breakfast.

I dropped Evan off at school and Noah and I went to Randall’s. Normally, I don’t do my grocery shopping there, but a couple of moms told me they save a lot of money there, especially when they use coupons. So, I thought I’d try it out again. I was not impressed. There were just a few things on clearance that were really cheap, but the rest was more expensive than HEB, even with the coupons.

Noah and I came home and ate lunch then picked up Evan.

I put the boys down for naps, but only Evan slept. For some reason, Noah did not want to nap. I had to make some calls and emails this afternoon and that was very hard to do with Noah awake. He was getting into everything. He kept opening the refrigerator. Then, he would take handfuls of Lizzy’s food and bring them over to her. On the way over he managed to drop a lot of the food on the floor.

Since Morry and I were both tired, we decided just to pick up food for dinner. We placed an order with Blue Bamboo and Morry went to pick it up for us.

After dinner we took a short walk around the block.

The boys just had baths and now they are in bed.

Rachel's Birthday

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today is Rachel's birthday. I think overall, she had a pretty nice birthday.

It started off when my alarm went off at 6:20am. Rachel noticed the light in Evan's bathroom was on. I got up and walked out into the hall. Laying on the floor right against Lizzy was Evan. He had used his blue blanket as a pillow and was laying down against her. I think it had been fairly recently that he had gotten up to pee and decided to lay down next to Lizzy after he peed. I got Evan set up in the game room with a movie playing.

I was working from home in the morning today because I had to take Mottel to the vet for a follow up appointment. I brought Evan downstairs with me to let Rachel sleep and got him set up down here and started working. Shortly before I had to leave, I went upstairs and woke Rachel up to give her the gift that we got for her. It was a 32GB iPhone. Unfortunately, you can't just buy an iPhone so I bought the gift certificate for it and wrapped the box from my iPhone.

I took Mottel to the vet and he's doing fairly well. He gained 1/4 pound which the vet was very happy about. He's had some diarrhea in the last week so she gave him a vitamin B12 shot, took a blood sample and gave me some antibiotics to give to him (along with the steroids and prozac he's currently on).

When I got home, Rachel and Evan were preparing to leave to go to the mall and then lunch. Blanca had come over to babysit for Noah. Rachel and Evan went to the Apple store where she got her iPhone. While she was filling out paperwork, they gave Evan an iPod Touch to play with and he really enjoyed it. They then stopped at Chick-Fil-A and got food for Evan as well as a cookie at the Great American Cookie Co. From there, Rachel drove to Panera for her lunch. They brought Evan's food in. Rachel got coffee and put a sleeve around it. Evan said he wanted a sleeve for his lemonade. He ate very well there and was very well behaved the whole morning.

After that Rachel came home and dropped Evan off and got her hair cut. When she got home she installed a bunch of apps on the iPhone. I think she'll enjoy using it.

For dinner tonight, we met Aunt Susan and Rachel's Aunt Donna and cousin Leslie who are in visiting from Seattle at Fish City Grill. Rachel really wanted crab. Both boys were very well behaving and Noah enjoyed sitting in Aunt Susan's lap. Evan had shrimp and some of Rachel's crab. As we were leaving Fish City, a policeman was coming in. Evan was very excited. The policeman spent some time talking to Evan and asked him what he ate. Evan was shy but he did answer the questions. It was really fun to watch.

We walked over to Yogurt Planet for some frozen yogurt. I shared with Noah while Evan had his own.

The boys are now in bed although I think I hear Evan running around upstairs. I'll probably have to go check on him in a minute.

Until next time...

School. Then Ice Cream

Evan woke up early this morning while Morry was getting ready for work. Morry got Evan set up in the gameroom and I stayed in bed a little longer. Around 7:45am Evan came in my room and asked to get dressed. A little after that Noah woke up.

I fed and dressed the boys and took Evan to school. Noah and I got gas for the car and then came home. Around 11am Noah got really cranky so I put him down for a short nap.

Noah and I ate lunch and then went to pick up Evan.

When we got to the classroom door I left Noah go in first. He immediately ran in to try and find Evan. Everyone was saying, “Hi Noah.”

After school we went to get ice cream. I got a free ice cream coupon from Baskin Robbins because it’s my birthday month. I chose a scoop of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. Evan got a vanilla soft serve cone. Noah had a little of ours, but he was more interested in walking around the store. Evan ate his whole entire ice cream, cone and all.

We came home and I put Evan and Noah down for naps. Neither of them were napping. I let Evan play in the gameroom and eventually it got quiet in Noah’s room. Evan played in the gameroom while I got dinner ready.

For dinner we had pork tenderloin, couscous, and black beans. Evan didn’t eat very much at dinner. Noah ate his hot dog, but that’s about it. Morry was trying to get Evan to eat his broccoli, but said banana by accident. That got Noah all excited about bananas and we had to give him one. It was the last banana we had in the house.

After dinner, Evan and Noah were running around playing. Evan put his underwear on his head and was acting very silly.

We just put Evan and Noah to bed, but Evan has already come out of his room.

Bike Ride with the Boys

So, last night, Evan did not have a pull up on and we kept his gate open. Around 1am I heard knocking. I thought Evan was at his door. When I came in the hallway I saw Evan knocking on Noah’s door. Evan seemed kind of disoriented and told me he needed to go to the bathroom. He went and I put him back to bed. He slept until about 8am.

After I got Evan and Noah dressed and fed I took them on a bike ride, for the first time. When we first got the bike trailer I took them around the block, but this time we really went for a ride. I only rode about 4 miles. I know that doesn’t sound like much, but when you are pulling a trailer with 2 boys weighing around 62lbs, and on hills, that’s quite a workout. We stopped at a playground at a school. The boys played on the equipment, we had an apple break, and then we got back on the bike and came home. Evan and Noah did pretty well in the trailer. Noah cried some of the way because he didn’t like wearing a helmet.

When we got home all of us were pretty hot. It was overcast today and slightly cooler than normal, but we were all pretty sweaty. I made smoothies and then we ate lunch.

After lunch, Evan and Noah took really good naps.

When, Evan got up from his nap, his sheets were all wet. This is the first accident he has had since potty training week. Maybe he forgot he had underwear on?

For dinner we had taco pasta.

After dinner, Morry and I took turns playing Wii Sports Active (an exercise game) while the boys played.

We just gave Evan and Noah baths and put them to bed. Evan is wearing Pull ups tonight, and we are leaving his gate open. We’ll see what happens tonight.

Rain

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, I woke up when I felt like I was being watched. Evan was peaking around the end of the bed trying to determine if I was awake. I got up with him and turned on a movie in the gameroom and let him play in there. He let me sleep for another hour and a half which was nice.

Later in the morning, Evan had soccer. Rachel and Noah dropped Evan and me off at soccer and then went to Newflower to get some produce for us for the week. As soon as we got into the soccer place, Evan was acting like he didn't want to be there. He went on the soccer field and just stood there not doing anything. I eventually talked to him and he told me he didn't want to play and that he didn't like soccer. So I had to call Rachel and tell her to hurry up and come pick us back up. In the meantime, Evan pretended to play video games.

Both boys were acting tired so we gave them lunch quickly. Rachel put Noah down for a nap and he went down easily. Evan didn't nap though. He stayed downstairs and played.

At 3pm, Evan and Noah had a birthday party to go to. Evan and Rachel left and I stayed home because Noah was still sleeping. Shortly after they left, Noah got up so I drove him over to the party at the Little Gym. Evan and Noah were very excited to see each other. Noah was running and climbing all over everything there. It was the first time that he actually participated in a party. It was very cute. At one point they blew up one of those bouncy things and Noah was running back and forth with all of the other kids. They served cake and Noah was the last one sitting with the cake. It was as if he didn't want to leave any cake behind. He fed himself a bit with a form, I fed him some and he used his hands some. But he ate almost all of that cake.

Oh, and we saw they are opening up a bagel place two doors down for the Little Gym called Wholy Bagels. I can't believe it. I've been here for 11 years and we've needed a bagel place all 11 years. Finally, we're getting one. We'll see how good it is.

For dinner, I grilled flank steak and made rice.

After dinner, the most amazing thing happened. It rained. For real. It's been a long time, but I'm pretty sure I recognized it. I can't remember the last time it rained. In fact, this rain was so rare, that neighbors came out of their houses and stood on their porches to see it. It was like it was snowing or something and people were so amazed. We watched the rain from the upstairs porch. Unfortunately, after 10 minutes, the rain stopped and that was the end of it. Then, we went out on the driveway and the boys ran around.

We put the boys down to bed a little while ago. And we had another momentous occasion. Evan decided he didn't want to wear a pull up to bed. He has been insisting on it since he got potty trained. So we will see how tonight goes. I hope he remembers he has underwear on because I don't want to change the sheets in the middle of the night.

Until next time...

Another day at the Pool

This morning Evan got up around 8:30am. He came over to Morry’s side of the bed and whispered, “I wanna get dressed, Gallo.” I took care of Evan this morning. I got his movie set up in the game room and I lied down in bed for a little longer.

When Noah started making noise I brought the boys downstairs and fed them breakfast.

Once Morry came downstairs we got Evan and Noah ready for the pool.

When we first got to the pool Evan wanted to go in the big pool with Morry. Then, they mostly played in the baby pool.

We came home and had our leftover pizza for lunch, then put the boys down for naps.

Evan and Noah both took good naps.

For dinner we went to Suzi’s. Evan and Noah ate a ton of edamame. The waiter gave the boys fortune cookies and a toy car to play with.

We just put Evan and Noah to bed. We left the gate open again for Evan. I just heard him come out of his room and say he needed to go potty.

Hopefully, we have another good night tonight.

Playgroup at the Pool

Evan slept until about 7:20am this morning.

We met playgroup at the pool this morning. I thought it would be tough watching both Evan and Noah, but it wasn’t too bad. They stayed in the baby pool area. Around noon it cleared out at the pool and that was a lot better. We had snacks. Evan had a popsicle.

For lunch I made the boys and me smoothie. Since they had a lot of snacks at the pool they didn’t want anything else to eat for lunch.

Noah took a nap, but Evan did not.

While they were napping (or supposed to be napping) I tried the EA Sports Active wii game for the first time (thanks Mom, Dad, and Grandma). I had to wait until today since I wasn’t supposed to do any exercise for a few days after having my toenail procedure. I just did a little of the game, but so far it seems good.

For dinner, we went to ZPizza downtown. We had a coupon, of course, from Restaurant.com. I got a $25 gift certificate there for only $4. We had a big meal and have leftovers tomorrow all for $10 total.

We just gave Evan and Noah baths and they are in bed now. We are going to try leaving Evan’s gate open tonight so he can go to the bathroom on his own if he wakes up in the night. We’ll see how it goes.

So, I just went to check on him and Evan was in the hallway lying down. I just put him back to bed.

Water Day at School

Evan woke up really early again today. At 5:00am Evan was crying for Daddy. He went back to sleep for just a little bit and started knocking when Morry was in the shower around 6:30.

Each Thursday during the summer they have Water Day. The kids play in the sprinklers and do other water activities. The kids come to school in their bathing suits and then change into dry clothes after playing in the water. Natasha said Evan got undressed and dressed all by himself today.

When I picked Evan up at school, Evan ran right over to Noah and gave him a big hug.

I put the boys down for naps when we got home. Noah napped, but Evan did not. I had him play in his room for a little while so I could get some stuff done around the house and get dinner ready.

For dinner we had Coke Ham and baked potatoes.

After dinner we ran over to Target. Our step trash can broke yesterday and we needed a new one. We also picked up a few other things. It’s hard to go to Target and just buy one thing.

Evan and Noah are in bed now. Let’s hope they both sleep well and late tomorrow.

Sherah’s Family

This morning Aunt Susan, Sherah, JW, Nolan, Court, Lauren, and Presley (the girl that Lauren nannies for) came over. I made cranberry blueberry oatmeal muffins. Evan and Noah ate a ton of them. The kids all played really well together. Evan and Nolan played upstairs in the game room. For lunch I picked up Little Caesar’s pizza. Of course I had coupons. All of us ate for a total of $11.something.

After lunch we called Bubbe on Skype and then we all went in the backyard for a little while. It was hot out, but the kids didn’t seem to mind. We took a Popsicle break. Noah had his own Popsicle for the first time. He did great and ate the whole thing.

Sherah’s family went back to Aunt Susan’s for naps.

I put Evan and Noah down for naps, but only Noah napped.

For dinner we met Sherah, JW, Nolan, and Court at Red Robin. We had to wait a while for a table that could accommodate us. Luckily there were lots of things to keep the boys occupied. In the front of the restaurant were video games and candy/toy machines. Even though we didn’t give the boys any change they had a good time playing with all the stuff.

Dinner was good. And what made it even better? Morry, Evan, and I ate for free! All we had to pay for was our drinks. Morry and I each had coupons for free burgers for our birthdays and Red Robin is also having a promotion where kids eat for free. Good deal!

Evan and Noah are in bed now. It seems to be quiet.

The Toenail

Hello everyone, this is Morry. I'm filling in for Rachel tonight.

So last night before we put the boys to bed, Noah picked up the cordless phone and played with it. Then he started saying "Da-ddy", "Da-ddy" and ran over and handed Rachel the phone. Rachel lets him talk to me on the phone some when I'm at work, although he doesn't respond. Well, when I got to work this morning, there was a voicemail from our home phone. I could hear Noah breathing in the voicemail. He must have been saying Daddy because he somehow dialed my work phone and heard my voice.

Evan got up at 7:15. Rachel walked with him to school. Then she had an appointment with a podiatrist. Her toenail on her big toe seemed like it was in-grown, but it also looked very funky. It turns out she did have an in-grown toenail and she had a fungus so they removed her big toenail. Yes, there is a fungus among us.

When Rachel was getting lunch ready for Noah, Noah appeared to be looking for Evan. He kept calling out "Eye-in, Eye-in" while walking around the downstairs.

Evan didn't take a nap today.

For dinner, Rachel had gotten turkey burger patties. I threw them on the grill and we were eating it and I bit into something hard. I pulled it out of my mouth and it was a wire, like from a twist-tie. We did not eat the rest of the burgers. Rachel called the maker, Jennie O, but they were closed. HEB seemed to be very upset when she called there and promised to refund our money, although it really isn't HEB's fault.

The boys are in bed now. Both Rachel and I had to separately go up and calm Evan down but he's quiet now.

Until next time...

HEB

Last night, I was awoken twice. The first time, Noah was crying and I had to go in there to give him his pacifier. Then, a little before 6am our smoke detector went off. It went off for just a few seconds. We keep having problems with our smoke detectors going off in the middle of the night. It really, really annoying.

Evan woke up at 7:30am. That’s late compared to when he has been getting up. Maybe he’ll continue sleeping later, and later. We’ll see.

I took the boys and Lizzy for a run.

Then, we went to HEB. We had a lot of groceries to buy. I saved $20 in coupons, but I spent a lot too. Evan and Noah ate a lot of samples of HEB.

When we got home they had cereal straws and oranges. I put them down for naps after that.

Evan and Noah took good naps and woke up around the time Morry got home.

For dinner we had chicken and shrimp tacos. Morry called it shrimpy shrimp. I bought salad shrimp at HEB for Evan and I. It was already pretty small, but we when heated it up it got even smaller. Evan and Noah both ate well at dinner. Evan had a lot of vegetables and shrimp. Noah ate cheese and tortilla.

After dinner, Morry played a few songs on Guitar Hero and then Evan played Wii Baseball.

The boys are in bed now. Hopefully, we can sleep the whole night without interruptions.

Soccer and the Zoo

Last night was horrible. Lizzy woke us up almost every hour to go out. Each time she was up, it woke up Noah too. Morry and I took turns letting Lizzy out, but we still didn’t get much sleep. We are wondering if maybe her stomach was bothering her? Then, Evan woke up around 7am.

We took Evan to soccer. He did very well and was paying attention most of the time.

We had planned on going to San Antonio after soccer. We were going to go to the San Antonio Zoo. We decided not to go for 2 reasons. We were both very tired and it was pretty hot outside. We decided just to go to the Austin zoo instead. The Austin zoo is about 10 minutes from our house and we have a membership there.

I packed a picnic lunch for us and then we went to the zoo. When we got there we found a picnic table in shade and ate our lunch. Evan and Noah seemed to enjoy sitting at the table and eating lunch. A few peacocks and a rooster came right up to us. One of the peacocks even ate some of the veggie booty that Noah had dropped by his feet. After eating, we walked around a little. Noah was getting cranky, Evan had to go to the bathroom, and we were all pretty hot. We took Evan to the bathroom and then drove back home. Evan was crying and throwing a fit the whole way home. We are not sure what he wanted.

Evan and Noah took naps.

We made spaghetti (all we had in the house).

Evan and Noah just had baths and now they are in bed.

Let’s hope for a better night tonight.

Guitar Hero

Hello everyone, this is Morry. It's my weekly post.

After the blog post last night, Rachel and I decided to play Guitar Hero. Not only did she buy Guitar Hero, but she bought a microphone to go with it so two people could play at the same time. We ended up staying up until 2:30 playing it. We definitely didn't realize it was that late.

This morning, however, Evan got up at 6:54am. Rachel got up and let him go play in the game room. Thankfully, he played very well by himself until 9:30. He's really a good boy and he can easily entertain himself.

When Evan came in our room, I got up and got him dressed and got Noah dressed as well. I got breakfast for both of them. Then I had to go to the airport to pick Matt, Ben and Molly up from their trip. They drove me home and came inside for a bit. Molly and Evan played well together.

We ate lunch and put the boys down for naps.

Blanca came over at 6pm so Rachel and I could go out to dinner by ourselves. We went to a place called Buenos Aires Cafe. It was very good. Rachel got an empanada and gnocchis and I got a pork tenderloin. Then we went to BJs for dessert. BJs had the Pirates game on (yes, I am shocked as you) so I had to resist the urge to pay attention to it.

We got home around 8:30 and put the boys to bed. Both of them are quiet now.

Until next time...

Morry’s Birthday

This morning Evan woke up right before Morry left for work. Morry gave Evan breakfast and put a movie on for him in the gameroom.

We were supposed to go to playgroup today, but the hosting kid got sick and they had to cancel. Instead, we went to the JCC for Tot Shabbat.

Evan and Noah seemed to have a good time there. Evan was one of the oldest kids there though.

After the JCC we met Morry at his work and then went out to lunch. We got pizza at Mangia. Evan and Noah gave Morry the birthday cards they made for him.

We came home and I put the boys down for naps. Evan slept really well. Noah only napped a little.

When Morry came home Evan ran up to him and asked him to open his present. Then, Evan said “we got a shirt for you.” Evan doesn’t quite understand the surprise part of gift giving. At least I didn’t tell Evan what the other gift was. I also got Morry Guitar Hero (a game package for wii). Morry played a little Guitar Hero before dinner.

For dinner we met Morry’s friends Joszef and Janos at Benihana to celebrate Morry’s birthday. We had to wait a while for our table. It was hard waiting there with Evan and Noah. Noah wanted to walk around, but it wasn’t safe as there were lots of waiters and people walking back and forth.

Dinner was fun. We enjoyed watching the guy cook in front of us. Evan and Noah were tough. Noah hardly ate anything and threw most of the food on the floor. A little before the guy starting cooking, Evan became really clingy with Morry and was like that for the whole show. Evan did end up eating a lot of shrimp. He ate Morry’s appetizer shrimp and then all the shrimp that came with my meal. For dessert, they sang and brought ice cream for Morry. Morry and Evan shared the ice cream. Noah had a few bites.

On the way home we had to stop for gas and then drive to Matt’s house. Morry needed to pick up Matt’s car so that he can pick Matt and the kids up from the airport tomorrow.

It was a late night for the boys. It’s almost 11pm and they just went to bed.

Clean Up

Evan woke up early again, but at least he knocked and didn’t cry.

When I dropped Evan off at school, I put Noah down so I could put Evan’s lunch and water with the others. There was a class of small kids (maybe 2 years old?) coming through the room to go outside. Noah started following them and almost got out to the playground. I had to run over there to catch him before he followed the class outside. He looked really cute walking behind all those other little kids.

After dropping off Evan at school Noah and I picked up Riley. She watched Noah at our house from about 9:30-12. I had a whole bunch of cleaning I needed to do. The house was a disaster. Even though, Riley was here I didn’t get as much done as I hoped. Noah cried almost the whole entire time she was here. He started crying when she got in the car. The last few times he did great with her. I don’t think the crying has anything to do with her. She’s a very nice girl and she gets down on the floor and plays with the kids. I think Noah just knew that I wasn’t going to be able to be with him and he didn’t like that. I spent a lot of time trying to calm Noah down. He was finally happy and playing for about the last 30 minutes. What a stinker!

Noah ate lunch. Then, I ate quickly. It has become very hard for me to eat while Noah is eating (or trying to eat). He screams, whines, etc almost the whole meal. The only time he stops is if I give him fruit. So, I fed him and then took him out of his high chair and ate my lunch in about 10 minutes before it was time to get Evan.

Right when we got home from picking up Evan I put the boys down for naps. I was exhausted from the morning. Evan and Noah both took really good naps.

For dinner we made grilled chicken and rice.

After dinner I wanted to run, but it was just too hot outside. They said the high today would be 106. I’m not sure if got up to that or more, but it was really hot out. We were also under a heat advisory today. So, instead of running we made ice cream. I made chocolate ice cream this time in the bag and it turned out well. We didn’t have any vanilla in the house, so I just added some Nesquick to the mix and it worked well.

Morry put up curtains in Evan’s room tonight. We are hoping they will block out some light and maybe Evan will sleep later? We’ll see.

We just gave them baths and put the boys to bed.

A little more relaxing

Evan woke up early again, but at least he wasn’t crying. A little after 7am I heard knocking on the wall.

Blanca came at 10am. I ran some errands, met Melissa for lunch, and got a massage. Morry gave me a gift certificate for Mother’s Day for a massage. I finally used it today and I’m so glad I went. It was great! Now, I want to go back.

When I got home a little after 3:00, Noah was napping but Evan was still awake in his room. After awhile I was able to get Evan to nap, but Noah woke up pretty shortly after that.

For dinner we had hamburgers.

While we were cleaning up Evan played wii baseball. He’s really getting good. He got 16 out of 30 hits!

After dinner we all went to Target. We didn’t get home until after 9pm. They were doing some road work and we had to take a long way home to get around it.

It’s 10:00 now and we just finished getting the boys to bed.

Back to School

This morning Evan woke up early again, but at least he didn’t cry. Morry heard him knocking on the wall this morning. Anything is better than the crying.

I dropped Evan off at school, then spent the rest of the morning at home with Noah. We didn’t do much, just took it easy.

I picked up Evan and came home. Evan threw a fit at nap time. I had to put him in time out right before naps and he never calmed down before naps. I was finally able to get him to calm down and then he ended up napping. Shortly after Evan feel asleep Noah woke up.

For dinner we had this already cooked brisket thing from HEB and some pasta. While I was getting dinner ready Evan played wii baseball.

After dinner we ran again.

We just gave the boys baths and put them to bed.

Doctor, CVS, and Newflower

Evan was up at 6:24 am this crying for Daddy and did not go back to sleep.

This morning I made a doctor’s appointment for Evan. He’s had this little bump on his butt for a while, but the last week he’s been scratching it and it got bigger and more irritated. I was able to make an appointment for 9:45. Evan, Noah, and I went to the doctor. It took a while. We were there for about an hour. The doctor said Evan has Molluscum Contagiosum, a skin condition that causes raised, round, bumps on the skin. We have to give him an antibiotic cream 3 times a day for a few days.

After the doctor we went to CVS. There were a lot of items on sale there that we needed. We were there about an hour. Evan was not well behaved and it made the shopping take extra long. I also had to take him to the bathroom twice. I guess it’s not in a good neighborhood because when I was trying to get out to the car I realized the shopping carts don’t fit through the door. I had lots of big items (toilet paper, paper towels, ..). There was no way I was going to be able to get that stuff and the boys to the car without a cart. The checkout guy offered to help me to the car. That was very nice of him, but I was annoyed at the store.

Then, we went to Newflower, across the street. I got our groceries for the week and also got some good deals there. Evan and Noah were better behaved there. I gave them both apples to eat to keep them busy. After checkout I took the boys to the bakery to get their free cookie (kids get free cookies).

We came home, ate lunch, and the boys took good naps.

For dinner, we ate rotisserie chicken and leftover potatoes.

After dinner, I made Morry run with me. :)

I want to try and start exercising more. Maybe we’ll try running after dinner and see how that works out.

Evan and Noah are in bed now, but Evan is still awake.

Park and Wii Baseball

This morning Evan was in a bad mood. He only wanted Daddy. Grandma, Papa, and I all tried to get him dressed. I was letting Morry sleep in, and finally I just went in and got Evan dressed whether he liked it or not. At that point he was crying for Daddy because Morry was in the shower. After I got Evan dressed I let him go in our room and see Morry.

Papa made us breakfast this morning and then he and Grandma drove back to Dallas.

We went to the Circle C Park for a little bit. It was hot out, but not too bad in the shade. When we pulled up there were only 2 other cars there. I guess most people wanted to be indoors today. Evan and Noah had fun at the park.

We came home and the boys took really good naps.

While we were getting the pasta ready for dinner, I helped Evan play baseball on the wii. He was really doing well. He was able to watch the screen and hit the baseball in the video game. I was pretty impressed that he had the eye-hand coordination for that. He wasn’t hitting all of them, but I’d say about 30% or so.

We had spaghetti for dinner and then went to Wendy’s for dessert. Morry, Evan, and I got Frosties. Noah ate about half of mine.

We just put the boys to bed. Last night Evan was up really late because people were shooting off fireworks in our neighborhood and he was scared. We just heard more fireworks going off. I went outside, but couldn’t tell who was doing it. It wasn’t anyone on our street. I hope it ends soon and I hope it doesn’t bother Evan again.

July 4th

Hello everyone, this is Morry. This is my first posting in awhile. We didn't post last Saturday night so I think it's been two weeks.

This was the first full day home for everyone (besides me). Rachel was very tired as the boys didn't sleep well all week long while they were in Dallas and she was up dealing with them. Luckily, this morning, both boys slept until nearly 10. Then I got up with them and got them dressed. Rachel slept until after 11.

We came downstairs and had fruit for breakfast. Evan also had some Cheerios.

When Rachel came downstairs we decided to go to Blue Bamboo for lunch. It's a Thai-Vietnamese place that opened in Escarpment Village. We all really enjoyed it. It was our second time there and it was just as good, if not better, than the first time we went. Both boys ate incredibly well. I ordered Chicken Fried Rice and Evan ate all the chicken out of my rice. Noah ate a hot dog.

When we came home, the boys played some and then went down for a nap.

I started cooking a brisket for dinner. I put it on the grill, wrapped in foil. Rachel made potatoes, and chocolate chip cookies. We also made asparagus in the steamer. Additionally, we roasted garlic and had some bread to put it on.

Evan and Noah both ate the bread, but not much else from the dinner. Evan had peanut butter and jelly but Noah didn't really eat much. His eating has really slowed down recently. I remember when Evan went through this phase.

After dinner the boys played some more and then we gave them baths.

Evan has been manipulating me into staying in his room when we were trying to put him to bed. He was coming up with every excuse to keep me in there. He's very good at that. When I came downstairs, he started to cry so I sent Rachel up. He's quiet now but I don't know if Rachel still is in there.

Until next time...

Full Day and Fireworks

This morning Evan woke up around 8:30 and came in my room. We got dressed, finished packing, ate breakfast. Then, Grandma, Papa, Evan, Noah, Lizzy, and I drove back a full car to Austin.

We only stopped once to get gas and lunch. Since Lizzy was with us and I didn’t want her sitting in a hot car, we ate lunch at a picnic table with Lizzy. It worked out well and gave the boys a break from sitting in the car. Traffic was sort of bad and it took us about 5 hours to get home. Normally it takes about 3 ½ hours.

Evan and Noah were very excited to see Morry and be home.

For dinner we went to California Pizza Kitchen and then heard Mr. Fabulous, a swing band play outside in the shopping center. It was very nice and the boys enjoyed running around and playing.

Every 3rd of July the golf course near us shoots off fireworks. We get a great view from our street. When we got home it was just getting dark outside. We grabbed folding chairs and set up on the driveway. We talked to some of the neighbors and then the fireworks started. Right away, Evan was scared and hung on to Morry, facing backwards, the whole time. Noah was a little scared, but watched most of the fireworks.

The boys are in bed now. It’s nice to be home. I hope they sleep well tonight.

Science Museum

This morning we met Sherah’s family at the Science museum. It was a very nice museum and they had a lot for kids. When we first got there, the kids played in the dino pit. They had a sandy area where kids could dig for bones. Then, Evan found the fire station area and wouldn't leave. We were in that section for a long time. They had a fire truck and firefighter uniforms to put on. We stayed in the museum for about 2 hours. We talked about going to lunch together after, but all of the kids were pretty worn out and just decided to go home.

At home, we ate lunch and then put the boys down for naps. Evan fought naps again and I had to move him to the other room where he eventually slept.

Bubbe came over for dinner. Grandma/Lynn made corned beef.

Then, Tricia and Kevin (neighbors) came over to see Evan and Noah.

After that we went to Paccugo for gelato. On the way there Evan said he wanted cherry ice cream. Luckily, they had a cherry gelato there. Evan said he wanted a cherry on top. The guy working there was very nice and made sure Evan got an actual cherry in his gelato. In fact, Evan got 2 cherries.

The boys are still awake. I need to go in the room and get them quiet. We are driving back to Austin tomorrow and I don’t want them to be cranky for the drive.

More Swimming

Last night the boys were up until about midnight. They would not go to sleep. Then, Noah was up this morning at 7:20am. Evan got up pretty soon after.

For lunch, we picked up Chick-Fil-A and brought it to Bubbe’s house. I got a 6 piece kids meal for Evan thinking Noah might have a piece or 2. Noah didn’t want his and Evan ate the whole thing, and his fruit, and drinkable yogurt. Evan and Noah did well at Bubbe’s. We bought our DVDs and Evan watched Toy Story 2.

We came back to Grandma and Papa’s house and put the boys down for naps. Again, they weren’t napping. I eventually had to move Evan to my bed and I napped with him.

For dinner, we had turkey burgers, squash, and salad. Evan ate a lot of the vegetables and enjoyed dipping them in the salad dressing. Noah ate a hamburger bun and a banana.

After dinner, we went swimming again. Evan and Noah seemed even more comfortable in the water. Evan still wouldn’t swim on his own, but he was jumping off the side of the pool, while holding hands, with one of us.

Evan and Noah are in bed now and it actually seems quiet. We’ll see…
