Successful Boys

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

So Saturday was a successful one for the boys. It was the last day of the high school baseball season for Evan. His team set up an event.  Two coaches had a draft of both Varsity and JV players and they played two games against each other.  After the games, there was a potluck for everyone to celebrate.

Evan had a good day playing.  Batting against mostly Varsity pitchers, he went 2-4 with two walks, a single and a double.  He was not intimated by the older kids pitching.

After the games, we ate, and then the coach talked to everyone.  He announced that some kids from the Varsity and JV were named to the "All-Tournament team" from the weekend before as voted by all the coaches of the teams in the tournament.  Evan was named to the team.  It was basically saying he was one of the best players out there.  It was a nice way to end the season with that recognition.

When we got home, Noah showed us an email.  He had officially been accepted to the National Junior Honor Society. It seemed like he should have been admitted since he does so well in school, but you never know.  It was nice to see that Noah got recognition for how good at school he was.

As a reward, we took the boys to Bahama Bucks.  Chewie came along and enjoyed it.

Yesterday, Rachel and I took Chewie for a walk around Lady Bird Lake.  We stopped at Black Rock Coffee on the way home.

In the afternoon, a kid in the neighborhood came by and detailed my car. For dinner, Grandma and Papa picked up food from Saps and came over and we ate on the porch.

Today, Rachel had a dentist appointment.  I took Noah to Gorzycki to swap out his Chromebook.

There was no baseball today, so I smoked chicken quarters for dinner.  It worked out well.

Until next time...

Passports

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan went into school with Rachel like he always does on Tuesdays and Thursday.  He goes in to work with Dio.

Noah and I stayed home while he was in class and I was working.

Rachel had set up an appointment for the boys to renew their passports for today.  She made the appointment several weeks ago.  Noah and I met Rachel and Evan at the post office.  We had gotten everything we needed together ahead of time - old passports, paperwork filled out, passport photos, birth certificates (and photocopies).  The guy at the post office was very nice.  He joked with the boys.  It turns out he was a baseball fan and was from Puerto Rico.  So Evan was talking to him.  Evan showed him the Roberto Clemente shoes that he was wearing.  The whole thing took less than 15 minutes which was nice.

Noah and I got home just in time for him to get on to Zoom for his next class.

After work/school, the boys and I watched The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.  We hadn't seen last week's episode and the new one comes out tomorrow.

For dinner, I made carne asada.  I had marinated it last week and then vacuum sealed it.  It was very good.  The flavor was all throughout the meat.

After dinner, Rachel and I took Chewie for a walk.

We'll be sitting down shortly to watch a bit of TV.

Until next time...

Passport Photos

This morning I got my hair done professionally for the first time in over a year.

Then, I went to Aaron's Rentals to take some photos for a sponsored campaign.

I tutored this afternoon.

Evan had baseball practice.

While Evan was at practice, Morry, Noah, and I ate dinner (hamburgers) at home.

Morry went to pick up Evan and they got back around 9pm.

After Evan changed we went to CVS to get passport photos for the boys.   Their passports expire soon and we have appointments Thursday to get them new passports.

Now the boys are having some dessert (candy that they got at CVS).

Tomorrow Evan is taking a standardized test at his school and he convinced us he needed some candy to snack on during the test.

San Antonio + The Weekend

Friday and Saturday Evan had baseball games in San Antonio.

On Friday, just Morry and Evan went to San Antonio.

On Saturday, I went too and we met Grandma, Papa, Aunt Diane, and Uncle Jay for lunch in San Antonio.

After lunch, Morry and Evan went to the field for Evan's practice.

Grandma and Papa and I walked around a park for a little bit and then went to the game.

Evan's team played a second game, but Grandma, Papa, and I left to go back home.

On the way home we picked up dinner from Galaxy, then got Noah, and we all ate at G&P's house.

After Morry and Evan got home, Evan went to spend the night at Reid's house.

Today, Morry played golf and Evan went to the UT baseball game with Reid's family.

For lunch, I picked up Wholy Bagel for Noah and me.

When Morry got home around 6pm, we ate pasta for dinner and then went to HEB.

Here are some pictures from the weekend.

Catching Up

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today was the first day in a while that I had no meetings scheduled.  I was looking forward to today so that I could catch up on work or even making phone calls or things I needed to take care of for the house.

Evan went with Rachel to school today.  He works with Dio on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He seems to be enjoying it.  Rachel buys bagels from Einstein Bros Bagels on the way to school.

I took Evan to his baseball practice late this afternoon.  On the way, we stopped and picked up his teammate Ethan.  Ethan's mom picked them up from practice and brought them home.

Noah, Rachel and I had ham for dinner tonight.  We had made it the other night for dinner but there was enough left over for another full dinner.

The boys are upstairs playing on the Playstation 5.  The latest version of the boys' favorite game, MLB the Show, is being released tonight at 11pm.  They are staying up to play it some.

Until next time...

Kayaking

Yesterday Evan had games near San Antonio.   I got a ride with Grandma and Papa to the second game and then we met Uncle Jay for dinner at Willie's.

This morning we took it easy.

In the afternoon Morry and I went kayaking and then picked up drinks from Black Rock.

Around 6pm all of us went to H-E-B and then we picked up Domino's for dinner.

After dinner, Morry and I walked Chewie.

We Have a Driver

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Yesterday was Evan's 15th birthday.  We didn't celebrate much as Evan had school most of the day and baseball practice in the evening.

Today, Evan went with Rachel to ATA.  He had a workout with the trainer there.  Noah stayed at home with me.

The day was fairly uneventful for most of it.  I had a bunch of meetings. Nothing noteworthy until work ended.

Besides the fact it's hard to believe that Evan is now 15, this birthday means that Evan was eligible to get his Driving Permit in the state of Texas. We had signed Evan up for a parent-led driver's ed last year so he had completed enough of it that he was eligible to take the written driver's test. The test can be taken any time from the day of his 15th birthday on at home.  So Evan took and passed his written driver's test yesterday. That meant today, we could go to the DMV and bring the proper paperwork and get his permit. He had a 4:55 appointment that we had booked back in November.

The DMV was surprisingly organized. They were still running behind but it was well organized. We waited about 50 minutes or so.  Then the woman went through all of Evan's paperwork, took his picture, gave him an eye test and Evan walked out of the office with a permit to drive on the actual road.

He and I came home and picked up Rachel.  I drove us over to the Community Center and Evan got in the driver's seat and drove some.  This was literally the first time had driven. We hadn't had him drive even in a parking lot before.  He did ok.  We'll get back to it and keep working with him.  On his birthday next year, he can take the driver's test and get his license.  I'm thankful that he'll have a full year with an adult in the front seat with him.

For dinner, I grilled a tri-tip steak.  Everyone seemed to like it.

I just helped Evan with his computer science homework.

Until next time...

Evan's Birthday Celebration

Evan's birthday is Monday, but he has school and baseball practice that day and Sunday is Easter.  So, he celebrated his birthday today.

He invited Reid to join us.

This morning we went to Top Golf.  The boys had a great time and Noah won.

In the afternoon they played video games and played outside.

We picked up pizza from Home Slice for dinner and ate it at the nearby park.  The boys played tennis and basketball after they ate.

Then, for dessert, we went to Bahama Bucks.

Reid is spending the night here.

Everyone had a great day.

Here are some pictures.
