Breakfast for Dinner

This morning Owen came over at 9:40 so Lorena could go to a doctors appointment.   Noah woke up a little bit before Owen got here.  Evan woke up when he heard Owen come in the house.

Deborah came to work on Lizzy a little before noon.

Lorena came to get Owen around noon.

This afternoon we stayed at home.  The boys played and I got some things done around the house, made some phone calls, and responded to emails.

Morry was out at a meeting for most of the day.

A little while after he got home we went out to pick up shoes for me and then did a short trip to Costco.

For dinner, the boys and I had breakfast for dinner.  I made waffles, pancakes, and scrambled eggs.  Morry had some leftover Mexican food.

In a few minutes the boys will get ready for bed.

No More Bunk Bed

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

I got up this morning and started working.  Rachel then got up because she was going to go to do a workout with Lorena.  She was going to bring the boys.  Shortly before Rachel was going to leave, she woke up the boys who were still sleeping.

Then I went into Aaron's for a meeting.  When I came home, I stopped at Smoothie King and got smoothies for the boys and me.

When I got home the boys were playing with Brody.

We had pasta for dinner.

Then we walked by Grandma and Papa's new house.

When we got home, we continued with all the big changes we're making.  Last week, we got rid of the playscape.  Today, we took apart Evan's bunk bed.  I put it in the attic for now.  I think that Aaron and Mandy are going to want it for Jeremy eventually.  We also took apart the desk in Evan's room as it's really bigger than what he really needs.  Rachel listed the desk on a Facebook group where you can sell stuff.  We'll get Evan a new desk that is smaller some time this summer.  Our new mattress will be delivered on Friday (hopefully) and then we'll move our mattresses into Evan's room and use the frame that came with the mattress.  For now, Evan is sleeping on the mattress that was with the bunk bed, but it's just on the floor.

The boys are asleep now.

Until next time...

Exciting Day

Today was an eventful day.  Grandma and Papa went to check out the house this morning.   They were gone about two hours.  When they got back they told us they had put in an offer.  They loved the house.  Now, they just needed to wait.

For lunch we went to the Steeping Room.  There, Papa got a call that their offer was accepted.   Very exciting!  The next step is an inspection on Tuesday.

Grandma and Papa went back home to Dallas after lunch.

After lunch we went to a mattress store to pick out a new mattress for Morry and me.    We picked one out and it will be delivered on Friday.  When we get our new mattress, we'll put our old one in Evan's room to replace his bunk bed.

Uncle Billy and Leslie came in town today.  They are staying at Aunt Susan's house for a few days. For dinner, we met them and Aaron's family at Matt's El Rancho.  We had a good time there.  It was fun to see everyone.

Now, we are home.  Soon, we'll get ready for bed.   It's been a long day.

Jurassic World

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning all of us (including Rachel) went to see Jurassic World in IMAX 3D.  I kept joking with Noah that it was going to be so realistic a dinosaur was going to eat him.  He thought that was funny.  The movie was very good.  Evan was literally sitting on the edge of his seat.  He was really into the movie.

After the movie, we drove over to an open house near our house for Grandma and Papa. We liked the house so much that Grandma and Papa are on their way here to see the house to decide what they want to do.

We took it easy in the afternoon.  The boys cleaned up in the late afternoon.

For dinner, we picked up Pho Thai Son.

We took a walk after dinner and walked by the house we saw earlier.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

Busy Day

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

I had a busy morning trying to get work done.  I got up before the boys did.  Evan came down closer to 8:30 or 9.  Noah came down shortly after that.

We all went to Wholy Bagel for lunch today.  The boys really like going with us.

I had a meeting in the afternoon and the came home and did some more work.

The boys played baseball in the backyard in the afternoon.

Owen's mom picked Noah up around dinner to take him to a birthday party.  Rachel, Evan and I went to Cypress Grill for dinner.  It was good tonight.

Then we went to Blazer Laser Tag where the party was.  It turns out that Ms. Wenske was there.  She was invited to the party.  The mother of the boys whose party it was is a substitute teacher at the school and then of course the boy had Ms. Wenske.  Rachel and I talked to her for a long time.  It was good to talk to her about things other than school.  She's a very nice lady.

The boys are getting ready for bed now.

Until next time...

Boys at Home

This morning I went for a run.  I asked the boys if they wanted to come with me, but they preferred to stay at home with Morry.

I made them lunch and then left for a meeting at Mozarts.

Late afternoon Morry took Evan to the baseball fields to practice (just the two of them).  While they were gone I did some cleaning in the garage.

For dinner we had ribs and corn on the cob.  Both boys ate well.

We went for a walk.

Soon, the boys will get ready for bed.

Swimming

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Evan woke up a bit earlier this morning than he had been getting up.  Noah still slept in.  I had to get to Aaron's early for a meeting.  I had the meeting then got a haircut and came home.

I did stop at Smoothie King on the way home and got smoothies for the boys and me.

The boys stayed inside in the morning.  After lunch Rachel and the boys walked to the pool and went swimming.

We had an early dinner of leftovers and then went to Costco to get some things.

When we got home, we went for a walk.

The boys are about to go to bed.

Until next time...

Nau's

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning when I got up the boys were still sleeping.  I'm glad they have been sleeping more.  Evan came downstairs a little after 8am.  Noah slept past 9am.

I went into Aaron's as we were submitting a new version of the app we work on.  Rachel and the boys came for lunch.  Aaron and Mandy joined us in walking to Nau's Pharmacy for lunch.  It's an old-time pharmacy with a lunch counter.  They also sell a lot of candy and the boys bought some candy for themselves.  It was fun having the boys come in.

Rachel left early to go to a meeting.  The boys stayed in the office for awhile while we fixed some things.  They wrote on the white board and ate some of their candy.

Rachel stopped at HEB on the way home from her meeting.

For dinner, we had rotisserie chicken.  After dinner we were going to go for a walk but we had a thunderstorm roll through.  The boys ended up showing us movies they made on their iPads.

The boys showered and are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

First Day of Our Summer

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today was our first day of summer.  Technically this is the start of our third week of summer break, but today was the first day it felt like it.  Two weeks ago, we flew to Florida.  Last week, we were taking Evan to baseball camp and it seemed very hectic.  Today the boys didn't need to be anywhere and didn't need to get up by a certain time.

I woke up first to start work.  Evan came down about 30 minute later, shortly followed by Noah.

I went into Aaron's for meetings and get some stuff done.  Rachel, Evan and Noah stayed home all day.  I think the boys stayed inside most of the day since it was very muddy outside.

Later in the day, I met a father of a boy I used to coach on Noah's team.  He had questions about baseball and I let him borrow some bats.  We met at Backspin.  I picked up wings for me for dinner.

When I got home, some people had come to take away our playscape in our backyard.  Rachel had posted it on craigslist.  They took it away pretty quickly.

We took a walk after dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

The Last Few Days

We have been busy the last few days.  Here's what has been going on.

Thursday:  Morry and I went to MD Anderson for a checkup.  We left around 5:30 in the morning and got back around 5pm.  Everything looks good so far.

Friday: We had lunch at Wholy Bagel.  Wade came over after camp.  For dinner we ate at Aunt Sandy and Uncle Marvin's house.

Saturday:  Evan had baseball games and Noah and I went house hunting with Grandma and Papa.  At night, we went to a going away party at Brian and Angela's (our neighbors).

Sunday:  Today Evan had a baseball game in the morning.  The rest of us including Uncle Marvin went to brunch at Crema.  Grandma and Papa left early afternoon.  Evan's game ended early because of weather.  It started raining really hard.  For dinner we ate at Fujiyama and then got dessert at Marie Calendars.  Morry got apple pie a la mode, the boys got cherry pie, and I got apple cheesecake.  We all really liked our desserts.  I was the only one that had a little leftover. The boys are getting ready for bed now.

No Storm

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The big storm didn't really hit Austin very hard.  We got brief spurts of hard rain throughout the night and parts of today but nothing more than short heavy showers.

I took Evan, Jack and Wade to baseball camp this morning while Rachel and Noah took Lizzy to the vet to have an ultrasound.

From baseball camp, I went into Aaron's.

Evan went to Wade's after camp.

I stopped at Verizon on the way home and got a better phone plan for the family.  Then I stopped at Home Depot and got some light bulbs.  I picked up Lizzy after that and brought her home.

For dinner, we went to Torchy's Tacos.

After dinner, Grandma and Papa came in.

Until next time...

The Storm's A-Brewin'

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

The big talk in Austin is Tropical Storm Bill making it's way here.  The rain had not yet come as Evan was getting ready for baseball camp.  John dropped Jack off at the house at 8am and Wade came a bit later.  Rachel took the boys to camp.

When she came home, I went into Aaron's.  Rachel took Noah to the allergist for a follow up and then she and Noah stopped by Kohl's.

Noah's appointment went well.  His chest sounded clear and his breathing was clear.  He can reduce the amount of Flonase he is taking.

I came home in time to meet Evan, Wade and Jack for when they got dropped off in case Rachel hadn't gotten home in time.  But Wade's mom took the boys to Wendy's before dropping them off.

When she dropped off all three boys they were wet and super hyper. They played together all afternoon.  Wade's dad picked him up around 4 and Jack's dad came around 5.

Earlier in the afternoon, I dropped Noah off at Owen's and then went to the eye doctor.  I picked Noah back up later.

For dinner, we had sprite chicken.  The boys both ate well.

The are playing upstairs and will be going to bed soon.

Until next time...

Baseball Camp

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning was the first day of Bowie Baseball Camp for Evan.  I heard it raining early in the morning so I wasn't sure if they'd be in the gym or outside.  When I got up I put sneakers and shorts in Evan's bat bag in case he needed to switch out of baseball pants and cleats.

Wade's mom dropped Wade off at the house around 8:20.  Then Rachel took Wade and Evan to camp.  She ran to HEB after that and did some food shopping.

I went into Aaron's later in the morning.  I stopped by the post office and got gas on the way in.

Noah wanted to sew so Rachel helped Noah make a "calvin" out of fabric.  It looks really good.  He did a great job.

Wade's mom picked up Evan, Wade and Jack from camp and dropped Evan and Jack off at our house.  Jack spent the afternoon here.  Evan said they had a good time.  Evan, Wade and Jack are all in the same group which worked out well.  Evan said his friend Carter is also in the group.  This is way better than last year when Evan didn't know anyone in his group.

Jack's dad picked him up around 4:30.

We grilled hamburgers and corn for dinner.  Both were really good.

After dinner we went for a walk.  Lizzy did well on the walk.  She seemed happy.

We'll be putting the boys to bed soon.

Until next time...

Back from Vacation

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

We spent that last nine days between Dallas and Club Med Sandpiper Bay in Port St. Lucie, Florida.  We drove to Dallas last Saturday and spent Saturday evening and Sunday in Dallas.  On Monday, we flew to Ft. Lauderdale and met Grandmom.  From there we drove up to the resort.

We all had a good time.  The boys were able to go on a trapeze as well as go sailing.  The boys ate well at the all-you-can-eat buffet that they had at the restaurant.

Yesterday, we flew back to Dallas and we drove back to Austin today.

We'll fill in more later this week.

Until next time...

First Day of Summer Break

Early this morning the electrician came to fix our lights.

For lunch we went to Wholy Bagel.  We got there before noon and they were pretty much all sold out of bagels.  I think we got the last of the bagels.  Shortly after we ordered they put in a sign in the window saying they were all sold out.

In the afternoon Noah played with some of the neighborhood kids while Evan stayed at home.  Evan said his stomach was bothering him.

At 3pm Noah's friend Owen came over and stayed until 5pm.

We ate dinner at home and then got Sweet Caroline's shaved ice for dessert.

No More School

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today was the last day of school.  Waking the boys up this morning was easy.  In fact, Evan was already up, though Evan is never difficult.  Noah was very excited when I got him up too.

We walked to school.  All the parents of the fifth graders were going in dressed nicely because the fifth grade graduation was this morning.  I'm not sure if Lizzy realized this would be her last walk to school for awhile.  I'm sure a bunch of kids are going to miss her over the summer.

Rachel ran some errands in the morning.  She went to the bank, Kohl's and Costco.

When she came home, we had lunch and then went over to school.  Evan's class was having an "Open  Mic - Poetry Reading".  All the kids had to read two of the poems they had worked on over the year. The teacher gave all the kids fake mustaches and berets.  Parents brought in various food and drinks to make it like a cafe.  We brought our Keurig in for coffee.  All  the boys made their readings as short as possible.  We were there until school ended.

Then we waited for Noah to get out of his class.  One of the girls in Noah's class was crying because she was going to miss the teacher.  Noah seemed upset and then he started to cry.  He said that he "was feeling sick".  But the moment we got home and he was doing other things the sickness magically went away.  I asked him later if he was sad to not have Ms. Wenske and tears came in his eyes and he turned away from me and told me to stop talking.  I think it's a good school year when a child is crying that school is over rather than being excited.

We promised the kids we'd take them to see Tomorrowland after school.  Noah's friend Owen and his mom joined us and we picked up Evan's friend Wade and saw it at the Alamo Drafthouse.  We had dinner while we were there.

When we came home, Christian and Connor came over.  They came with us on a little walk.

The boys are out in the backyard now.  They'll be going to bed soon.

Until next time...

One More Day

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

It was a nice walk to school this morning.  The temperature in the mornings now is great.  It's not too cold, not too hot.  If it could just stay that way all day.

When we got home, Rachel drove Lizzy and dropped her off at the vet to get her lumps mapped.

Later in the morning, Rachel walked with Lorena to Starbucks.

We got a call from the vet saying they mapped 28 lumps on Lizzy.  Of the 28 lumps, they biopsied nine.  Of the nine, eight were completely clear and one was slightly weird so they sent that out to be tested further.  They also were a bit worried that the blood test revealed a higher calcium level.  So they did a chest x-ray which was clear.   We'll await the results of that biopsy.  The vet agreed, though, that Lizzy is showing no signs of issues.  She does not appear to be in pain at all, not when we pet her, not when she goes for walks.  She does fine on the walks in the morning.  But I guess it's better to be safe than sorry.

We walked to get the boys.  The boys were excited that now they have just one day left of school.

I did a some work when we got home and then I went to pick up Lizzy.  Lizzy was very excited to see me.

For dinner we had pasta.

The boys are showering now and then they'll go to bed.

Until next time...

Two More Days

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Today was the third to last day of school.  We had our normal walk.  Lizzy did not see any of her dog friends.  There is a little girl named Savannah who just loves Lizzy and was so excited to see her this morning.

I went into Aaron's to work more on Your Trainer stuff today.  Rachel stayed at home.

In the afternoon, we walked to get the boys.  The temperature was hotter than last week but there was considerably less humidity so it was a more comfortable walk.  The boys were in good moods on the way home.  We did not bring Lizzy because it is just too hot for her.

Rachel met a potential student for tutoring after school.  She'd be tutoring this student over the summer.

I signed Evan up for a batting lesson with a coach I found online.  He's a young guy who played baseball for the University of Tennessee.  We, the Bucs, have been thinking about paying a coach to run some practices for us in the fall.  The dads would still coach the games but it'd be good to have a different, more professional voice for the boys.  So I found this guy and decided to see how he works with Evan before I talk to him about the team.  We worked on batting today.  It went very well.  He actually recorded Evan with his phone and then played back the video at times to show Evan what he was doing right and wrong.  He gave him some drills to do at home.  I was very impressed.

We had left overs for dinner.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...

T-shirt Contest

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Several weeks ago, the boys teamed up in creating a design for their elementary school t-shirt as part of a contest.  On Friday, Rachel got a call from the school telling us that Evan and Noah's design was the winner.  Rachel asked if we could tell the boys and the lady said that the boys would know when we picked them up.  But they didn't know when we got them and weren't sure what we were talking about so we felt we should tell them.  To be sure, we went to the office and confirmed that the boys were the winners and that we could tell them.  The lady actually said "THE" winners and stressed it.  They were to be honored at the assembly this morning and we were welcome to come to watch it.

So we walked to school today without Lizzy and watched through the assembly.  They announced several honorable mentions and then called up the third place kids.  And then they announced the second place winner and it was Evan and Noah.  We were a bit surprised since we were told they had won.    The boys handled it very very well and didn't seem to be upset.  I think Rachel and I were more upset.  And to be honest, the principal indicated they may take concepts from the top three designs.  They really liked the theme that Evan and Noah came up with which was "Clayton Rocks".  Evan and Noah came up with it all on their own.   At the end of the day, they were 2nd place in a school of 1000 where a huge percentage of kids submitted designs.  So second place is still very good and we are very proud of them.  In fact when we asked Evan if he was ok, he looked at us like we were crazy for asking and said "second place is pretty good."

I went to Aaron's and had a Your Trainer meeting for the late morning and early afternoon.

When I got home, we walked to get the boys.  When we got home, Rachel and the boys took Lizzy to the vet for her annual checkup.  She has lots of "old lady lumps" and we wanted to get them checked out.  The vet said Lizzy appears to be in good health and had great mobility for a 12-year-old dog.  She felt that most of the lumps were benign.  She had a swollen lymph gland that Deborah had noticed so they took a biopsy of that and we should know in a couple days.  They would like to see Lizzy for a "mapping" where they will map all of her lumps and document the sizes so we can accurately monitor them.  If they have to do any biopsies they will.  Poor pooch.  The good news is really that from the basic checkup she is a very healthy dog.

The boys played with Christian and Connor when they got home.

We had tacos for dinner.

The boys are about to get ready for bed.

Until next time...
