Trees and Football

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

This morning, when Rachel and I got up, we planted the sapling that we got for free from the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center.  We were able to plant it in our front bed.  We hope it grows well there.  The soil is much nicer in that bed.

When we were done, Rachel ran to the school and back.  Evan went with her on his scooter.

We had lunch and then Evan and I left to go to his football game.  We stopped at the Natural Gardener on the way.  When Evan's peach tree died last year he was very upset.  We promised him that we'd get another fruit tree.  We spoke to a lady at the Natural Gardener about what tree would be best for us.   Evan had wanted a pecan tree but she said where we live, given our soil and the size of large size of a pecan tree it would not work.  She was very good and many times spoke directly to Evan since I had told her the tree was for Evan.  She explained about "chill hours" needed for fruit trees and really gave Evan the science behind things.  The recommended fig, pomegranate, plum, blackberry or kumquat trees.  She said fig trees do very well in Austin, although all of those would be good.  I think we may be leaning towards two trees - a blackberry and a kumquat.  The blackberry tree is not really a tree but more of a bush.

From there we went to the football game.  Again, Evan didn't drop a pass during warmups.  Unfortunately, that didn't carry over to the game.  Evan dropped the first pass that was thrown to him.  He also dropped a handoff on an end around.  He caught a few other passes, but another pass was intercepted that was thrown to him.  The whole team did not play well on offense or defense.  Evan was pretty dejected after the game.

We stopped at Best Buy to pick up a new Fitbit for Rachel and then Smoothie King on the way home.

It was clean up day after that but the boys did not do a very good job of cleaning up.  Evan's clean up just finished at 9pm.  I ended up going in and directing him on what to clean up and where to put it in his room.

The boys are now in bed.

Until next time...
