Busy Busy Busy Sports Weekend

Hello everyone, this is Morry.

Our weekend was very sports-filled.  Friday night, Evan had baseball practice.  His friend from the team, Everett, stayed overnight at our house so he get a ride with us to the tournament on Saturday morning.

On Saturday, I took Evan and Everett up to Georgetown for two games.  Evan played well.  The team managed their first win of the season in the second game (after losing by 1 run in the first game).

Meanwhile, Rachel took Noah to two football games.  Noah said he had several big runs and he pulled some flags.  His football team went 1-1 in the two games.

After Evan's baseball game, we jumped in the car and drove all the way south for Evan's two football games.  It took us long enough - combined with a late ending of baseball - that the first game was ending when we got there so Evan didn't get to play in the first game.  His team won anyway.  In the second game, Evan played really well.  He scored a touchdown by getting open despite being double covered and he made a nice catch jumping over the defender to get it.  They won that game.

On Sunday, we were back out at the baseball fields.  Evan's team won the first game.  Evan pitched the final inning to ensure the win.  He didn't throw many pitches.  After that we went to Popeye's for lunch and came back for the second game.  Rachel and Noah made it for the second game.  Evan's team had caught fire by this point and they crushed the other team.  Evan hit two balls to the fence and hit another really hard as well.  This win put them in the championship game.

In the championship, another boy started the game as pitcher.  He got one out but walked two kids (who ended up stealing second and third) and got 2-0 on another kid.  The coach put Evan into pitch.  With a 2-0 count and one out and runners at second and third, Evan managed to not give up any runs.  He got the first kid to pop out and struck out the next kid.  He had another good inning pitching.  In the third he ran into some bad luck.  His team made three errors behind him and that was the difference in the game.  But it was fun to watch the team not only get their first win of the season but make it all the way to the championship and finish as runner-ups.

Today, Noah had football practice after school.  Evan had his advanced catcher's course.  Noah said he did well at practice.  Evan's catcher's course was interesting as they talked to him about what pitches to throw at different counts, etc...  I was fascinated by it.

The boys are getting ready for bed.

Until next time...
